We had some issues with wood rot and they quickly replaced the damaged boards and then restained the deck. Hire inspectors before paying final invoice. FYI "Custom Deck and Fence Austin" also has poor reviews on multiple sites noting owner Todd Louis Ratajik of "Good Day Baked Energy Snacks" (Forfeited Existence). Sites now name "Cesar" as owner. Negative reviews disappeared. AFFD has pending lawsuits with Travis County Courts. Unknown AFFD subcontractor alarmingly used my name and address in another client's lawsuit wtf! Standard: Visual consistency. AFFD: Mismatched railing. Todd's words: "It's the same railing but pinched." (A contractor's FB review notes lack of materials to properly complete jobs.) Std: Concrete pad supports stairs. AFFD: Stair stringers hover in air, failing to land on concrete. Todd blatantly texted that stringers would step out (not down) from deck. I refuted the abnormality. Top step was cut off; stringers don't reach concrete. Instead of extending pad or redoing stringers, an ugly post was set. Std: Stairs treads w/o gaps. No overhangs. AFFD: Stringer cuts forgot stairs' fascia; treads weren't 11+". Gaps added to meet code, so stair noses are 1.25+", ie trip hazards. FYI Use rise-to-run guidelines. Std: 42" deck railings. 34-38" stair railings ABOVE boards. AFFD: 44" deck railings. Didn't supply 34" stair railings; boards grossly notched to lower height, which start at 44"! Std: Posts sit on existing FINISHED concrete pads. (LOL) AFFD: Post had no contact with pad (after removing makeshift shams to hide the blunder) ie ZERO deck weight on ground. Todd asked if this was okay [to not deal with]. Post not corrected at start. Rough concrete poured atop pad to meet post. Ew. Std: 16" oc MAX joist spacing (Trex specs). AFFD: 7 of 13 spacings are 16+". No blocking. Add 1 or 2 joists = ~15.5" or 14" spacings. Todd said his ways are "affordable" and "economical". Eek. Best: Competitor contracts: "12-in joist spacings", "blocking", "glulam beam". Std: Trex Cocktail Rail Kit (full-width support, hidden fasteners). AFFD: 5.5" wavy floor boards nailed to 1" rail. Visible screws, rough shavings, corner gaps, no support eg 2x4s to flatten board. No countersunk screws and putty to hide nails. Std: Professional aesthetics. AFFD: Not spraying railing cuts = RUST. No continuity in stairs fascia to meet deck edge. Silver bolts on black railings. Posts unequal distance from deck edges. Cedar's shorter lifespan requires staining / maintenance is inferior to Trex's composite fascia. Std: Disclosure of unforeseen issues. Protocols. Loyal crews. AFFD: Crew wasted a day plotting makeshift repairs after causing roof damage. Licensed roofer was furious about erroneously-cut flashing. Roofers returned after crew again made damaging cuts where told not to. Zero acknowledgement from Todd. AFFD: Crew noted holes in house's ceiling after removing joist nails. No repairmen references. Not-our-problem mentality. AFFD: 15+ days by 2 tired guys: the hire + his actual neighbor. Ditto to reviewer compelled to supervise. Days start late, end after 7pm. My neighbors had 5 deck builders who left by 6pm still jolly. AFFD: Non-recyclables in recycling bin. Concrete and stinky liquid in trash bin. Cigarette butts, nails, and construction debris across yard. AFFD: Crew won't tell owner about gray areas and errors in judgments. One unsure if he'd get paid wth. Std: Professionalism. AFFD: No final walkthroughs. Owner ignores items in emails. Condescending; when I climbed a ladder re an issue (that I called a roofer to fix), Todd muttered that I was "an inspector, eh". Instead of talking measurements, Todd's retort was "I'm the owner of a deck company", as if titles alone grant proficiency. Labor is hired out, crew turnover is high. Workmanship depends on whoever is outsourced, who aren't deck builders so much as guys who "have built decks before". Expect no corrections on what Todd Ratajik deems as "good enough".

Aidan, replied that Sunday night and the next day he came by to take a look had an estimate to us within 24 hours. Upon accepting the estimate he was here the next day working on the door. His timeliness was greatly appreciated. His attention to detail and high skill level is obvious in his work. I was very impressed ! We hired AMG Decks and Arbors to replace a poorly constructed two level deck built by another…read morecompany. That was the smartest choice I have made when hiring anyone. His attention to detail and knowledge of deck building is superior. All the joints are tight, the screws (no nails) evenly spaced and everything is plumb and level. These may seem like little details but it all adds to a beautiful finished product. As a home inspector I see many decks with undersized posts, poor support and inferior products which are used to saving on material costs. Aidan's construction techniques are rock solid which is important since the upper level is 17 feet high. I am pretty sure this deck will outlast me. Aidan also recommended some features I had not considered such as a rain catchment system so we can now sit on the lower deck during and enjoy the rain. He also installed a stainless steel cable rail which allows an unobstructed view of the back yard and green belt. You may be able to find a cheaper deck builder who will slap up some boards onto the back of your house but I pretty sure you will not find who builds a better deck.

We bought/stained pressure treated lumber and did the demo work of pulling up the old porch. We soon discovered to our dismay that the underlying frame and columns holding up the veranda were varying degrees of rotted-out and needed to be replaced entirely. We wanted the job done right, and so we decided to find a contractor to work with. After doing some research on Yelp, I reached out to a handful of deck building specialists. Originally, Deck N Cable Railing wasn't even on my radar. Yelp has the function that if you click a button, it'll automatically duplicate your request and send it to an additional handful of businesses. I didn't even realize that I had accidentally done this. I'm so glad I did because Deck N Cable Railing was one of the businesses that Yelp sent my way. First off, they were very fast at responding to my request for info. They reached out, asked for a bit of additional information, and then offered to come out to give a free estimate in person within 24 hours. Juan Pena, the owner, arrived on time for the appointment. He listened attentively to our needs and evaluated the job that needed to be done quickly, efficiently, and thoroughly. He was sensitive to our desire to not let the lumber we had already bought/stained go to waste and made a plan to utilize it. He was also able to give us a quote on the spot which was really helpful. On the day of the installation, Juan arrived with his crew members, Jovial and Alejandro, to help get this situated for the job before he left for the day to attend to other projects. Jovial and Alejandro spoke limited English, but they used their smartphones and Google Translate to communicate with me when a question came up and so communication worked out just fine. Jovial and Alejandro were friendly, professional,and very hard workers. They were fast and fastidious and kept the job site neat. Juan had said that it may take up to two days to finish the job, but his crew were almost complete by the end of the first day. There was a minor issue with the frame visibly sticking out just a bit at one corner of the terminating edge of the porch. It wasn't a structural issue, more of a minor cosmetic issue, but I discussed the issue with Juan, and he immediately came up with a suitable solution to address my concerns. He joined Jovial and Alejandro on the morning of the second day of the installation to personally inspect their work. The job was finished within an hour or two on the second day. All in all, Juan and his team did an excellent job with the porch. It looks fantastic and feels exceptionally sturdy. We're very happy with the quality of the work, and we are looking forward to enjoying it for many years to come. We'd recommend Deck N Cable Railing without reservation based on the quality and efficiency of their work alone, but that's not the only reason you should consider giving them a call. Juan was very easy to work with. He's professional, responsive, friendly, and conscientious. He takes a lot of pride in his work and it's important to him that his clients are 100% satisfied with the work done. Moreover, his pricing is very reasonable. His quote for the job was by far the most reasonably and competitively priced bid. Finally, and this is a bit embarrassing, I accidentally overpaid for the job. I paid Juan in cash, handing him an envelope with cash, without realizing that I had miscounted it. Imagine my surprise when I got a call from Juan that evening (apologizing for calling so late!), to let me know that I overpaid him, and he wanted to schedule a time when it was convenient for me for him to stop by in person to return the amount I overpaid. That's integrity, folks. If, like me, Deck N Cable Railing isn't on your radar, they should be. Solid 5 stars.
