He is accepted for who he is at Charis Hills, quirks and all. While Charis hills does not have a lot of water sport activities. It's not an overstimulating, fast paced environment. It is a very small, intimate, faith based camp. It is geared toward a spectrum of capabilities and socio-emotional strengths. The camp staff meets your camper at his level. The camp offers opportunities for growth. It's a good old fashioned camp, a throwback to my youth with activities such as canoeing, fishing, rifelry, skeet, swimming in a pond, games, skits and of course Bible study. This is a faith based Christian camp. The end of camp celebration is not slick like certain large camps trying to solicit donations from parents. It actually celebrates each campers achievements.

The kids, the counselors, the instructors, and our other camp staff all had a fantastic time and left with huge smiles on their faces. We can't wait to go back again next summer. The YMCA staff has the entire camp operating like a well-oiled machine. I would say they have all their ducks in a row, but that would be too literal, since there really were ducks waiting outside the dining hall every morning, hoping for the kids to throw them some food. From the kitchen staff, to the lifeguards, to the activity instructors, everyone was on the ball and did their best to make sure the campers ate well, stayed safe, and had fun. The camp facilities were great too. This is the first camp I've been to where the cabins have air conditioning, and now I wonder how any camp in Texas gets by without it. It's SO NICE to be able to go inside and cool down after a long hike or horseback ride. And sleeping without A/C is no fun at all. Speaking of which, the bunks were actually really comfortable too. The cabins also have indoor bathrooms and showers, as opposed to other camps that have separated showers/bathrooms that are shared by multiple cabins. Again, this is a really nice luxury. The dining hall here is enormous, and all the tables quickly and easily fold up and out of the way to make room for indoor activities. Our campers had crafts and games in there every day, and we held our camp dance there as well. Looking forward to many more summers at Camp Grady Spruce!

Woke up to the cabin attached to us full of bed bugs and after searching our side we had bed bugs as well along with some bites. All in all had to pack all our things in bags and come home in the middle of the night. The staff did attend to us quickly.

The staff were very friendly and helpful making sure that everyone was being helped. Before we started they gave us all a full run down of how to make the clay pots and what signs to look out for. The group we went with all had a great time and we all made some really nice planters, i look forward to attending more class for pottery but they also offer so much more from painting, sketching, stain glass, and more. I wish the pottery class had a whee spinning option or perhaps more intermediate/advanced classes that would allow us more options but overall it was a great experience.

My child was 3yo when he started, and yes, he had to be potty-trained to start. I was shocked when they told me they do not take naps, as they are a school and not a day-care. However, when they explained they get "rest" time, but they only get them from 8:30-2:30, it wasn't long and they had lots to teach, so I was good! And boy did they teach! At the end of his first school year my 3-4yo could recite the pledge of allegiance to the US flag and the Texas Flag. He did daily affirmations. He had learned to count to over 100. He knew all of his letters, and could write his own name, and the name of the all the kids in his class! He knew his address, and his mommy and daddy's phone numbers. He knew who Mother Teresa, Vincent van Gogh, and Georgia O'Keefe were! This precocious child of mine even knew addition, subtraction, and some basic multiplication and division! Let me tell you, I was blown away with this Vintage education! The ladies that run this school, are the most caring, thoughtful people I have met. They truly care about these kids, and setting them up for Kindergarten success! Several of my child's classmates went directly to home schooling, and some went into Kindergarten early, due to the advanced learning styles of this school! I chose to keep my child another year, and I am blown away that my child can read independently to himself at 4yo! I can't wait to see what happens when he turns 5, and for the rest of the school year! If YELP could give a 6 or a 10 STARS, these ladies would deserve every one. If you want your child to have a head-start before kindergarten, I would highly success you talking with these people, and joining my child in class! 5 STARS for the LOVE OF LEARNING!

Parking was a little different since we parked across the street, but it was free, which was a nice surprise. The restrooms were clean, there were snacks and drinks available, and since we weren't sure what to expect, we ate beforehand. The real magic was watching all four of my kids, ages 4 to 12, find something they genuinely loved. That doesn't happen everywhere! From arts and crafts to climbing, sliding, exploring, and creating, there was something for every personality and energy level. No one was bored. Not even for a minute. As a mom, I appreciated the clean environment, family friendly atmosphere, and free Wi-Fi. As a M.O.M.=maker of memories maker, I loved seeing my kids laugh, play, and discover new things together.
