Best place for cheese you can ask for! I have grown up on this cheese, and after all this time have never found anything that compares. Now I have to ship the product, but don't let that stop you. They package their product in the best packaging I have seen. And always shows up at my door as expected. Thank you Decatur dairy for always being unchanging in this crazy world we live in.

We get cheese gift boxes and cheese for our Christmas every year. We ordered our gift boxes online and picked up along with cheese curds and a variety of other cheeses on our way to FL for the Christmas holidays. The cheese boxes are only $15. We purchase sausage from another business and add them to the cheese boxes. The cheese here is so fresh and creamy. It is the reason we drive out of our way to come here. And we have a nice variety to charge on our cheese and sausage platter over the holidays. The clerks are knowledgeable and friendly. We have been coming here for years when it use to be a small counter and register in the barn and they had a dog to greet everyone. It has grown over the years, the dog is gone and the store is nice size which also includes a public restroom.

The employees were very friendly and helpful with my questions. I had the three mouseketeer grilled cheese with the special sauce. It tasted fantastic and the cheese pull was great! Lol Thank you so much!

Every time I have visited Decatur Dairy, I've left with a few pounds of cheese. There's nothing like Wisconsin lactose! Like so many others, when you arrive to this creamery, you pull up to a building that looks like a farm with a small plant in front. They're a handful of parking spots, and apart from modest signage, you wouldn't know you were pulling up to top-notch, third-generation creamery owned by an award-winning, Master Cheesemaker. On my does it yesterday, I was the only one in the shop until another customer walked in. Typically, there can be as many as a half a dozen or more customers in the tiny space. There's nowhere to sit and eat, but if you taste test enough different cheeses, ans maube some regionally-made sausage, you won't leave hungry. The ladies behind the counter are always very friendly and Incredibly helpful. Just as important, they're also very knowledgeable, even Kyli, the youngest of the team who helped me yesterday. I had plenty of tastes, she gave plenty of good recommendations and I left with plenty of cheese. Again, like other Wisconsin creameries, Decatur sticks to regional specialties from brick and bitterkase, cheddar to farmer, gouda to havarti, Muenster to Swiss, and, in my opinion, the awful blue cheese and Limburger varieties. The Stettler family offers variations on all of these categories. Decatur, of course, has a slew of different curd choices. On this visit, I immediately went for a Muenster and was in search of something special. I was offered smoked, pepper, and a few others, and was thrilled with a slightly-aged muenster cheese which I had never seen before elsewhere. I also took home a half pound of Ukrainian cheese, something unique. The last two winners on my visit were the Stettler Swiss family specialty and an eight-year-old cheddar which was just shy of being crumbly and just at the edge of beginning to gain some crystalline texture. The prices are so outstanding I feel like a FIB pirate taking Cheesehead booty! Decatur Dairy sells mostly their own cheeses, but they do sell some from other creameries around Wisconsin and a few from out of state. It doesn't make any sense to me to buy anything but what they produce in house. They also have a half-dozen ice creams from another Creamery, and those are worth tasting and enjoyable to take a scoop out into the parking lot. They are so fresh and flavorful, noticeably better than anything you'll buy in the big box grocery freezer.

If you find yourself on a road trip seeking awesome cheese and scenery in southern Wisconsin, you won't find a better destination than Decatur Dairy. They have a full menu of amazing grilled cheese sandwich creations as well as yummy ice cream and plenty of outdoor seating. Their curds are beyond amazing and with so many varieties! Serious squeak appeal! I only wish they would offer a sample plate to be able to experience all of the curd goodness. Oh, did I mention they have an amazing selection of bulk cheese too, including several award winners? Go... there...now!

This dairy has it all: delicious, reasonably priced cheeses, ice cream, and grilled cheese sandwiches. It's the Incredible Edible Wisconsin Tri-Fecta! Sure, it's in nowhere-land, but make it a fun destination excursion, with cheese as your Golden Prize. You won't be sorry (just check on their hours, first). I tried the Yellow Brick Road grilled cheese on sourdough bread. The factory-made Buttercase cheese was soooo good! Creamy, meltey, gooey goodness. They'll make grilled cheese sandwiches during all open hours, so go ahead and have one at 8:00 a.m. if you want! Top it off with some Babcock Ice Cream direct from UW Madison and you'll be one happy cheese hunter.

    Heavenly grilled cheese!

But call, the hours on Yelp are not the bar hours, which are extended. The space was formerly a little cheese shop for Clock Shadow. It was pretty basic. The atmosphere has really ascended. There is a small retail section and cheese case for shoppers. The bulk of the small space has been transformed with moody, chic wallpaper, a classic old school bar and tables. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable. Service is very good and not intrusive, but you will learn a thing about what you're experiencing. The pairings are eye opening. The cheese is exquisite. Although the cheese itself is on the expensive side, the flights are reasonable for what you get. The pours on the wine are fair and there is enough cheese to share. Dried fruit and corn are added as a pallet cleanser. Loved it! Everyone needs a cheese bar with drink pairings. The wine and beer menu as suggested pairings for cheese as well. Since it was a Monday, most of the shops and restaurants were closed, but Cheesers was open -- and they had Babcock (UW-Madison) ice cream. It's a cute little shop with lots of gourmet food items, wines, and gifts. We got a couple of cones. Union Utopia for me, served in generous portions on a sugar cone. So good on a warm day. The owner was super nice and told us a little about the downtown area, especially the Opera House that offers concerts. Definitely seems like a place we'd love to come back to.

So when we were heading to Stoughton we knew we needed to stop at this place. The store was hopping on a late Saturday morning. We were there for the cheese but the front part of the store was filled with wine and liquor (they also have a tasting room upstairs - apparently it is a do-it-yourself tasting). They also have gifts and gourmet foods. The cheese counter probably had over 100 selections. There were many tempting cheeses. We selected a smoked blue cheese that we are looking forward to try. Given the wide selection we will definitely stop here again when searching for interesting cheeses even though it is a 25 minute drive.
