Only recently discovered this ethnic market. There's a lot crammed into such a small place. Bought a few items not usually found in the larger chain stores: delicate figs & pomegranate molasses. But want to forewarn abt their biscuits bc they dont taste anything like the biscuits from the UK :( one has an image of a cow & the other brand actually says petit beurre, both from Russia) Neither has BB date on the pkg read more

I want to give them 4 stars because the quality of of their products, but all of that got thrown away because their customer service skill. I just can't bring myself to rate them higher than 1. Their cashier ladies are very...very...very rude! They act like they're better than anyone and that they don't care if you shop there or not. I never once had a good experience from them, ever! Sadly, I finally fed up and would rather drive far just to have a better service, and I go to Millbrae downtown all the time. read more

I was just getting strawberries and apparently there is a $5 dollars minimum to use credit card, as I told the cashier i don't want anything else , she rudely said " I cancel" with an attitude. Don't come here for small items or come with cash and shop here if you want bad cashier. read more

Credit card minimum is $5! I was notified by the cashier in an incredibly rude way that that's their policy. Her exact words were "Credit card minimum is $5! I don't have time to deal with you because I have a long line but don't do that next time!". Um... may I politely inform you that there are no posting around the cash register to let the customers know that so how am I supposed to know. In addition, we're in a pandemic and I thought I was protecting you with contactless payment. No? I guess business must still be great for them because they clearly don't need my business. read more

Excellent selection of low cost/high quality produce. The store is kinda hidden and obviously parking can be tough, since this is the Burlingame Ave of Millbrae and clearly this is where the rubber meets the road. I've been in at least a dozen times and this most recent visit brought me to something that I've become quite intrigued by. Fresh jam. Yes, fresh jam!! I know, I should have covered this part of the foodie aisle years ago, but I was reminded of the PB&J crustless sandwiches of my childhood and never wanted to relive those moments. Until now. I picked up a jar of fresh blueberry jelly and slathered some over an English muffin with Almond butter and boy oh boy was it delicious!! I also noticed that they offer some exotic fruits that typical grocery stores don't offer all that much. Items such as: Papaya Young coconut Bitter melon Dragon fruit Durian (stanky stank fruit I think) and so so many others I wanna visit more often, but I find myself at Safeway far too often. Maybe, just maybe, I can visit this spot weekly and feel better about myself when I sit down to enjoy a sliver of dragon fruit. read more

The owner is astonishing rude and disrespectful. I came in to return berries with my receipt because they gave me the worst food poisoning in my adult life. I returned to the store because of the principle that I was ill for days, not because I was hung up on getting the $2.99 back. The owner shouted at me and cussed at me calling it "bullshit" as he threw the berries on the counter. I assured him I was not lying over $2.99. He did agree to exchange the item, but he also continued to berate me in front of other customers and told me I should take it up with the FDA. I believe the health department is probably a better option since they store the produce in the hot sun out front of their store. Nevertheless, the owner's behavior was beyond unprofessional and I will not shop here ever again. read more

I visited the store today. Couple of things. The music was so loud. It was maybe Arabic or Israeli?! Don't know. Sounded like a youtube concert was playing and it did not sounds good and I like all types of music. You have people from different parts of the world working there, so perhaps they don't like that type of music, but cannot say anything. Lower the volume at least. Secondly, it was colder inside the store than outside. I really feel bad for people working there. Make some changes! Nothing comes close to Trader Joes. Nothing! read more

A Medi/Greek market that was playing gorgeous Greek ballads when here for an after-dinner visit for lovely King Kong plums, peaches, nectarines... All the Mediterranean/Middle Eastern breads represented here, as well as many sardine specialty items and other common comestibles from that part of the world. Nice selection. Nice mix of a bit O everything. Like! 3 plastic bags of fruit purchase confirms this =) read more

Pretty good selection of produce and some groceries as well. The prices were terrific. This will be a regular stop. It's December, I can't wait to see what they have in the summer. The workers were all pretty busy. Not super friendly but that's ok. It was definitely a busy day at a busy time of day. I will be back. read more

Although their produce is amazing, their customer service (mainly the cashier) leaves a lot to be desired! I will never go in there again! The cashier is SO rude and dismissive. read more

The quality of the produce at Dean's produce went down big time. I bought strawberries, blueberries and raspberries and the next morning I threw half of the fruits because they had mold on them. It is not ok to sell customers produce that is rotten. I trusted Dean's produce and I assumed their quality is high but I was totally disappointed. I personally will never shop there again. They basically buy low grade fruits and sell them for high profit. read more

There is way more variety and fresh produce here than the other local Asian markets. However, it's hard to beat the quality and prices at the nearby Farmer's market on Saturdays or the Safeway Down the street sometimes. If you want middle eastern ingredients, this is the place to go. Parking is ample on the street or nearby lots. The cashiers are extremely helpful and nice. They'll even give you a box to carry your groceries if you don't want to pay for the bags. read more

Don't know why, every time I visit here, the staff at the checkout are always so mean, and act like I owe them money or something. Never a "Hi" or a "Thank You", and always full of attitudes. Not a welcoming shop and I felt belittled. read more

This is the place to get your fresh produce. I love this place. It opens early enough that when I get off from work, I can get them early without the crowds. Their produces are shipped fresh each day and you can pick and choose. They don't packaged their produce like some other places. They have some of the most exotic fruits and vegetables that often are seen in asian markets. The prices are very competitive which makes them very attractive to consumers. read more

I heart Dean's Produce! They have a huge variety of fresh produce, keep the place clean and inviting to shop, and their baked goods and European treats always turn out to be a good surprise. Only gripe is that quality can be inconsistent, but it's produce, what can you expect?. There's always going to be a bad seed somehow. Great place guys! read more

When we lived in Millbrae, we frequented this grocery store. I loved it because the produce is so fresh and less expensive than Safeway that's just down the street. The produce is exceptionally fabulous in the summer. :) Employees are ok. Not super friendly like other stores but decent. They also have exotic desserts and foods from different countries too. Bread from Sheng Kee, Kinder and Milka chocolates, baklava, etc. Fun place to explore. Great fresh produce at great prices. Wish there was something similar near our new residence. Dean's Produce and Sprouts are my faves for fresh, inexpensive produce. read more

Been shopping here for over 10 years, but recently, I've noticed the store is going downhill, fast! Maybe new owners, or lazy employees?? Who knows... I've came home to find mold on my purchases two visits in a row!! Also purchased expired good without checking beforehand...my mistake. Somebody is not taking care of the joint! read more

Thank you YELP!! I found this place a yr ago on Yelp and have been going back regularly ever since. The produce is NOT organic but the price and food quality compensates for this as well as the VARIETY of stuff! Here are some "odd" things you can find here: - Fresh guava - Chestnuts - Aurora apples - Cactus fruit - Feta cheese in brine from Greece - Pickled turnip - Lebanese yogurt cheese - YELLOW corn on the cob - Fresh olive bar - Sesame seed bars at the counter The prices are crazy crazy low: - $0.79 for a jumbo cucumber - Apples at $1.25/lb *** The owners are Greek and they will tell you the recipe for Tzatziki and show you what to buy to make it! read more

What??? No. Today's purchases: went directly into the garbage!!! Daikon, spoiled and or completely moldy inside(?) Melon, inedible and crunchy, dry and mealy. See my photo. I don't see why people flock to this place, Dean should get some standards. Too far away to go and complain, and can't serve daikon oroshi w my saba shio yaki tonight. Lame. read more

I didn't spend much time in here, I was in a hurry. I only stopped inside to get some Turkish delights because it looked good when my friend showed them to me. The case is located in the front by the cashier. The cashier helps you get the products. Well, I didn't think the cashier was very friendly. It seemed like it was a chore for her to get the candies for me. The market seems big. Maybe I'll explore more next time. read more

I don't know who Dean is, but Dean knows what time it is. This place has better produce than the Safeway down the street and they properly store their produce so it does not spoil so quickly. It also looks like they get some of it from local sources, so it's not picked super early. Best place to get basil. I have not noticed a big price difference between here and other places either and usually it is on the cheaper side. read more

I have been to both locations and they over charged me the last two times I was there. Check your receipt. Theives......

This store is perfect for a small grocery shopping instead of an hour adventure in safeway. There is minimal to no lines, check out is very fast. Store has a unique choice of international imported foods. My favorite is of course, Russian section :) Good selection of honeys, chocolates, cookies and fresh produce. The only shortcoming: not all fresh produce is super fresh or best quality. Some of it get spoiled in a couple of days. But that's maybe 20% only. You have to find what is really good there. The consumer basket there is around 40% cheaper than in the neighboring safeway. Overall a better deal plus has some unique international foods there. A gem of the local trade. read more

The cashiers are always very rude. And they were extra hostile when I tried to get a refund for spoiled fruits. They didn't even apologize. Nor did they fully refund because I didn't bring the really bad ones that I had cut up and had to throw away. read more

I stumbled upon this market after eating at Wonderful Chinese restaurant down the street. I got fresh bright green okra, golden fragrant raspberry, succulent cactus fruit, thick hearty Manila mangoes, guava, blood oranges, sweet juicy Muscat grapes, and raw shelled Almonds!! I've never seen almond fresh off the vine. What the hellll....this place is amazing!! Oh and chocolate bar that was 67 % cacao +. Flavorful olive oil! Extra virgin! All the produce fresh fresh fresh! I wish I lived closer. I'd be in here every week checking out new fresh items. I had more fun here than in many farmer's in a long time!! Better than whole foods! I was in fresh Italian heaven-- fresh fresh fresh!! read more

If you are looking for the freshest and most thoughtfully selected premium produce in the Bay Area, this is it. They know their farmers and love them and know how to get things like the largest sweetest lychee berries I've ever seen or the most perfect peach I've ever had in early June. They do amazing deals as well. Like amazing prices for veggies and fruit at its peak. They also have odds and ends things like Russian and Greek delicacy items. Check them out and appreciate that local places like this can still thrive! read more

The moment you walk to the front doors, you'll see displays of fruits and vegetables. The produce ranges from every day produce to specific types of produce. If you need lemongrass, they have it! If you need bean sprouts, they have it! If you need okra, they have it! If you need potatoes, like yucca or sweet, they have it! If you need lemon, fruits, other common items, they will have it! Even when I need produce for my asian dishes, I'm usually satisfied with all of the needs I can find here. They do also carry some more "exotic" kinds of dry goods too. For some reason, the Justin brand almond butter here is in a better quality state than the ones at Safeway. They also have dairy products, but no lactaid milk. Basically, if you want a GREAT deal on produce and goods with GREAT quality of items, you should come here. The cashiers are not as welcoming as the big company markets, but that doesn't beat the quality the market offers! read more

Let's see. Chinese Russian Mediterranean Middle Eastern No no no, I'm not talking about a naughty adult site or mail order brides. Find your A$ian Feti$h elsewhere. This is but just a short list and example of what kind of products and groceries you might find at Dean's Produce in Millbrae. This is a small family owned market that carries a variety of fresh produce, veg, fruit. In the back are refrigerators where you might find some Vitasoy type products and drinks, and nearby are some Middle Eastern style cheese. On the left side of the entrance are various groceries from other parts of the world. The most interesting of them all? The bakery, baked goods, bread shelf near the cashier. Russian and Middle Eastern type flat breads. Don't miss the Hamati Bread - baked sesame seed bread that looks like a donut, but is a true slice of heaven when toasted up again (made by a place in San Bruno that also doubles as a pizza shop). Prices are not always the lowest but usually quite reasonable when certain items are in season. read more

Here, the customer is never right. I was a frequent customer here, coming here at least once a week over the last year I love patronizing local businesses and with Dean's Produce was no different. Until last week. After coming home I realized that the receipt had the same item counted twice. I came back to the store to claim the cash back from the extra item (I also brought the original item). The cashier listened but refused to give the cash back, claiming that the itemized item could be for a different item (that she didn't remember what it was). Neither do I. I know that it is just a few bucks, but it's about the principle, not money. Do they ever heard the expression "The Customer Is Always Right"? I guess not. I even bought an "I *heart* Dean's Produce" reusable bag because I love(d) this place so much. I even once in a while bought their milk and eggs, knowing that it is more expensive than from Trader Joe's, just because I wanted to patronize this place. After this incident, i'm seeing Dean's Produce with a different eyes. I will never come back. Who want an re-usable bag? I'm giving mine away. read more

Have you ever get suspicious of why Trader Joes always wrap their fruits and vegetables with saran wrap and foam plate? In Dean's Produce, you will get all the fresh fruits in the open. Yes, I mean you can pick and touch and smell them. Nice and clean neighborhood store that stocks up with plenty of fresh and high quality fruits, and a number of asian and greek specialty food. Each aisle is neatly stacked and you'll find many hidden surprises. Asian egg noodles, waterchestnuts, greek olives, pita bread, etc etc. It's all around a fun place to shop with lots of fresh food and good deals. And when I brought the food home, I don't have to feel bad ripping the saran wrap and toss away the foam plate to take the fruits out. read more

Dean's always has the in-season fruits that we all love! From figs, to mangoes, to papayas, to cherries, and even to the Asian pears! (They know how to please their numerous Asian customers :)) Their fruits are mostly always fresh, sometimes you just have to dig deep or open a new box if needed (Yes, very Azn thing to do indeed). Sometimes their fruits are a bit costly, but it is because they import them from various places as well as offer fresh quality. Their veggies are also very fresh and they are always placing new shipments onto their displays. Dean's also offers various selections of Indian, Italian, Spanish, etc. condiments and foods. Rarely ever a wait to pay at the cashier so you are in and out! My top favorites are the white peaches, figs, and fuji apples! read more

My local go to spot for fresh produce hands down... Fresh everything! I can always count on them to have italian eggplant (which I love). Plenty of seasonal fruits and veggies. Love the fact that they have some of the more exotic stuff... Like this time they had dragon fruit. Last time they had fresh guava and lychees... Dean's would get all my 5 stars if they only carried more fresh herbs... This spot used to be half the size until they took over a pet store that closed down. Glad they are doing well. I usually come here for my weekly fruits and veggies shopping. Produce is fresh and clean. Same with the fruits as well. They do have middle eastern products as well (cheese, olive oil, breads, etc...) This is the only place where I buy my honey from as well!
