This was for my summer house and there was some mis-communication. I wasn't present when the job…read morewas done, so I couldn't check what was completed and what wasn't. Was quoted for replacing insulation in "ceilings" and they only did the attic. The first floor ceiling was not done - they said they couldn't find the access port, but never called me to inquire (it's a very obvious hatch in the bedroom closet floor). I only learned of this after I paid and then they gave excuses for not doing the complete job. Happy with the attic part, but wish they would've completed the whole job...

I shot them an email when I found out, at night. Bright and early the next morning, Angie was on it. Tom was at the house shortly after. He fixed the most apparent problem, but then went hunting to make certain that was it. I kind of wish he hadn't !! It was going to be a system replace, lots of money we didn't have. Tom called me a few times, lastly saying, basically, "Let me try something," He ended up saving us thousands of dollars because he didn't give up; and, for that, I am very very thankful. Plus, the house was cool and livable within a few hours. Thank you !

About a week later, he gave me an estimate and agreed to contact my claims representative and collect a shingle to begin the ITEL process. After multiple unanswered calls, texts, and voicemails, I finally reached him through the office. He acknowledged seeing my messages and promised to come by on July 24 or 25, but again failed to follow through or respond. No work was performed and I did not lose money, but I lost valuable time while my roof may be sustaining additional rain damage. I would have preferred a direct answer if he could not or did not want the job rather than repeated promises with no follow-through. I will not be working with City Builders.

They seem to be good at the basics of what they do. But you should ask them to provide proof of…read moreinsurance at least, since there's no record of them on Iowa Business Entities Search or the Iowa Division of Labor Contractor Registration website. Also, they may not be a good choice if you know or reasonably suspect you have lead-based paint. They don't understand, or don't care about, the connection between exposure to lead dust (e.g. from home renovation) and brain damage to children under age 6 and fetuses (through a pregnant woman's exposure to lead dust). The outermost coat of paint on your walls, or on wood siding that might be underneath vinyl siding, might not be lead-based. But there are often older layers of lead-based paint on these surfaces. If you cut into the house to widen a window opening without wetting down the area first (or at least putting up a plastic containment area inside the house) you will definitely generate dust from that paint, even if it doesn't look like much.
