McDonald to my friends I have never been more pleased since my last doctor and the horrific issues I had with them.

Prenatal care: Visits seemed extremely rushed, like she was always in a hurry, but she was never…read morerude. She was definitely nice, and always asked how I was feeling. She justified everything as normal, but agreed to prescribe me some heartburn medication since none of the OTC things were working, and mine was so bad that I couldn't even lay down without intense burning. She was empathetic when I ended up with a PUPPS rash, and gave me suggestions of things I could do to ease the discomfort. Since I had a scheduled c-section, she gave me several dates to choose from, which was nice. Postnatal care: This is where I have issues. The MFM had me on baby asprin since week 20, and I'm not sure if there was a lack of communication, but I was never informed that I needed to stop taking it prior to surgery. That being said, I ended up with pretty bad postpartum hemorrhaging that could have been easily avoided. I will say, I do like that she made my incision super low so it's not visible even with bikini-style underwear. She also put "everything" back well, so my abdomen looks defined at times because of how she placed everything. The nurses are the reason I skipped my 6 month postpartum checkup. I don't remember their names, but one of them was super rude to me when I called about my postpartum hemorrhaging. I even remember one of them being sassy when I would call in for questions while I was pregnant. It's also alarming that I skipped the appt, and no one ever called to check up. As bad as this sounds, I still haven't gotten checked out, but I plan on finding a different OB/Gyn and getting a very overdue postpartum check. Nurses make a huge difference in how the patient feels about a practice, and I have to dock off a star because of their service.

My overall experience was just okay. The job was done but this is not what I am looking for as my…read morefirst time mom experience. My complaints are: 1) Dr. Wong is extremely rushed and does not pay attention to detail (she is not rude though). She does not make your visit personal and I am just patient #123. I understand doctors are busy but in that setting I am a customer so I don't care how busy you are. For example, I asked her to check a few things once she walks into the room and she does not remember to check until I remind her again before she walks out. She does not take her time to chat with you and see how you truly are doing (I especially value this because I am a first time mom and I am anxious and nervous about everything.) 2) Office staffs are not friendly but they seem to improve a bit after I sent a complaint to the main office. They are not patient in answering your questions and of course I had to deal with them on wrong billings. 3) Although I have never met Dr. Wong's nurse Rebecca, I already dislike her due to her phone etiquette. She makes you sound dumb and has attitude when talking to you. In summary, if you are looking for a passionate and personal OB/GYN, unfortunately I would not recommend Dr. Wong even though she receives good rating from the majority reviews.

This place is absolutely awful. I spent over $30k on treatments at this place that I'm not even…read moresure I needed because they could not fax my documents anywhere to get a second opinion in time before they recommended going on birth control. I was sent here by an OBGYN after a routine check up who told me I had a concerning test result. The OBGYN never did a follow up test before referring me to a place that does not accept insurance and requires you to pay everything in full out of pocket. I feel like if she was really concerned I had this she should have tested me a second time before referring me to a reproductive endocrinologist. But that's a different review. I had zero positive outcomes from any of the treatments HFI recommended and administered, nor was I given any documentation or explanation as to why the treatments failed other than age (I am not that old). At my consultation the doctor told me that I had permature ovarian failure or POI and would likely never have biological children. I spent a good week crying my eyes out. Meanwhile, I kept getting calls from the financial advisor telling me how much the treatment costs. I swear they do this on purpose; tell you you are sterile, and then badger you with all these options you can try as a last resort. At this point I was very confused as to why this financial counselor was even contacting me because I had just been told I had a 2-5% chance of IVF working and probably zero chance of getting pregnant naturally. The information the financial counselor gives you is also very misleading. I went in thinking that egg retrieval would cost a total of $15k including all medications, physicians, and facilitiy fees. At the end of it all I spent $30k because they put me on a very high dosage of drugs and also told me to order way more than I needed. I did not even do a full round of IVF and I paid this much. At the next appointment, the doctor told me that I unexpectedly had a large number of follicles. He suggested I go on birth control to preserve the follicles and told me that he didn't recommend going past two weeks. After starting the birth control and committing financially to doing egg freezing, I then get the results of a blood test showing I don't have POI. Ok, so why tell the patient this devastating news when you aren't sure if this is the case and push them into committing to a huge financial burden based on a premature diagnosis? By this time, I was so freaked out by the POI diagnosis that I just wanted to do egg freezing anyway and had already committed to it since I was on birth control. I feel like they do this to you so that you don't back out. When I was on the birth control I asked when they would contact me again to start the treatment and the nurses told me they'd call again. I never got the call from them and had to call multiple times to get an answer. At that point the two weeks was almost up. When they finally started the treatment I only had something like 4-6 follicles left, but was never given an explanation for why this was the case. I am not a doctor but even I could tell that something was not right in the way the follicles were developing. I was running out of the injectible medications which is the most expensive part of the process and was hesistant to buy more injectible medication (the most expensive part of the process), but could not get a clear answer from the nurses or doctor on whether I should get more. You cannot get medication delivered over the weekend and are totally responsible for getting it so if you don't plan ahead you can forfeit the entire cost of the treatment. On Thursday, I asked the nurses multiple times if I should buy more medication since the weekend was coming up and it looked like my cycle could get cancelled. They told me to wait until the doctor told them what to do while I was at my Friday appointment. While I was at the appointment the nurses told me to purchase the medication which cost $2k. I bought the medication. Then, about three hours later, the doctor calls me to tell me he wants to cancel the round because of asynchronous follicle growth... I was super pissed off because I just dropped $2k after asking multiple times whether I should proceed. I never used this $2k of medication. It's still just sitting in my fridge. I'm still scheduled to go in for an appointment on Monday, but not sure why since the round failed. The reason I was given was to discuss future treatments. However, the ultrasound showed that even after I stopped talking the drugs, my largest follicles continued to grow. The doctor recommended going through with the egg retrieval. I did the trigger shot (consuming even more expensive drugs that I'd have to buy again if I wanted to repeat this process which is very, very debatable) and went to the egg retrieval surgery 36 hours later. Out of room here so will write more in another post.

I feel lucky she doesn't have a large fan base, because it makes it easier to schedule with her. Awesome doctors tend to have crazy booking schedules, so Jemelka can continue being the most popular. That benefits me. Karges nurses are super awesome and treat me very well. Even the front desk staff has improved tremendously over the years. While I use Karges primarily as a gynecologist and nothing more, she was there for me medically and emotionally when I had a terrible miscarriage. She continued to give me hope - not false hope just hope - and was not willing to give up, until the fat lady from the opera sang, and boy did she sing. In fact, I'm sure it was more of a roar. She was just extremely compassionate and was on top of her medical game when we dealt with the heartbreaking miscarriage. I know this is the to go place for people struggling with infertility. However, if you're going to get bad news, this is probably the best place to get it. I don't think any other doctor would have invested as much time as Karges did and I'm grateful for what she's done. Jemelka can stay cool. Karges is definitely my favorite doctor, after what I experienced - even though routine gynecological stuff is just bleh. Definitely check them out, but really join the Jemelka cult. There's Hernandez and Brinkman too. Just don't make Karges popular. She's too awesome to become crazy busy like Jemelka.
