Service charge of $140.66 for MPI safety inspection made. No inspection performed. Contacted Andrew…read morelast week, Oct 24/19 regarding a safety inspection for my 2001 Gmc Sierra c3 odometer 220916. He advised to have it onsite for Tuesday morning oct 29th /19. Truck was dropped off Monday night after close and keys left in dropoff. Had issue with the battery Monday night, had to jumpstart the truck, filled battery with water and let idle to charge both at home and after dropping off.
Tuesday Oct 29th called in the afternoon. Truck was not ready. They were having "a bad day" and they were waiting for the hoist to clear to complete the inspection. Not in a hurry for the truck, I told Andrew a day or two would be fine. Thursday afternoon, Andrew calls, says the truck can be picked up. Inspection performed charge of $140.66. He mentions fail issues found - exhaust manifold bolts broken, front brake lines cracked, rear disk brake rotors severely corroded. Parking brake not working. No other issues/problems with the truck..
Aug 10/19 I had a pre safety inspection performed by OK tire. 1600 Regent st. Winnipeg. Odometer 220649. Parking brake failed at that time, brake lines passed, front and rear disk brakes passed, mechanical components passed, exhaust system passed. Oct 18th/19, Contact Dave @ D&S auto to bring my Sierra in for pre-safety repairs. Parking brake, windshield washers, lic plate lamps, daytime lights . Upper ball joint, front shocks, all changed. They had the truck from Oct 21 to 25th, waiting for the correct parking brake cables to come in from the US. Not in stock across Canada. 4:30 pm Oct 31st.
Arrive onsite Trueway to pay for service. Truck is still in the same parking spot and parked in same direction as when dropped off. Go inside. Not advised of any starting issue with truck. Period. Was told I had 3 days to repair the vehicle before the inspection was entered for MPI to review. "Because they weren't sure if I was going to do some of the work myself". Told them the truck was never coming back. Paid for inspection and took posession of keys. Visited Dave @ D& S and arranged for new inspection of parking brake. His words "did they try it?". OK tire closed 5 pm.
7:30 pm Oct 31st. Arrive by bus to pick up truck. Battery is flat dead. Starter solenoid only click. Truck has not moved in two days. Battery jumper cables were under the rear seat where I left them. Had staff at a local business come out and jump start after trying to flag down approx 150 cars. This business is defrauding customers by charging for inspections that are not being performed. They fully expect the customer to just open their wallet and allow them to perform the repairs they deem necessary.
Repairs to this truck performed before it went for inspection - Windshield washer nozzles replaced Windshield replaced Parking brack cables replaced Lic plate lights changed Daytime running lamps changed Cab corners and inner / outer rocker panes replaced Lh upper ball joint replaced Front shocks replaced Water pump replaced. If the rear brakes are severely corroded, why not at least an advisement 4 months and less than 400 kms ago?. Exhaust passed with no advisement. Brake mechanicals passed no advisements. Since the truck didn't move.. how did they test it's ability to hold the weight of the truck?. If the truck would not start, and it was in for a safety inspection, would the business not have an obligation to inform the customer?. I'd sue them in small claims, but my lawyer charges $150/hour, and it's not worth it to get the 140.66 for work they didn't do. But this is not right. This complaint will be filed in the am with the MPI vehicle safety line at 204-985-0920.
