Couldn't tell you if the work is good because I never got to try it. Can only recommend this place if you are familiar with Arabic language and culture and you like to haggle half a day just to get a few items sewn for $70-125 that could probably cost you 10 Euros-45 Euros and less time elsewhere.
The guy who helped me at the desk seemed to have some idea of how to pin clothing but we had a language barrier and even though I tried hard to understand it kept feeling like he just wanted to shake me down for $70-$125 on what should have cost a LOT less money by trying to get me to do more alterations than needed. The longer the conversation went on the more pushy It felt - like I was on a used car sales lot.
He offered me Turkish tea which I politely declined. Dude, I'm just trying to get some simple clothing alterations done quickly at a local business for a reasonable price and I have other errands to do today. I'm not trying to have a deep meaningful relationship with an unknown man who overcharges me and keeps me in the store for too long. After I agreed to his inflated price of $70 anyway (it was very cold out, the store looks nice inside, and I didn't know where else nearby to go) I handed him my card to pay and he tells me he only takes cash. NO CARD.
He wanted to keep all my things and have me "come back later with the cash" or "go to the ATM next door and get cash." He also wanted payment up front. Most don't ask for payment until delivery. Then he asked if I had Tikkie I could pay him with which is a Dutch app that nobody outside the Netherlands uses. (It's like Dutch Venmo.) I tried explaining to him that I don't have it because nobody outside of the Netherlands uses it. He didn't seem to get this and called a lady from back to help him who he said spoke better English. She just looked annoyed, like he had dragged her into this sort of situation a lot, and she wasn't able to help or take a debit or credit card either.
I told her that the whole thing had just started to feel too weird for me so I wanted my things back and to leave. God bless anyone coming in here alone without strong boundaries.
AVOID unless you know middle eastern culture/language well, you enjoy spending a lot of time haggling, and you only want to pay cash up front - THEN maybe this place can work for you. The last straw for me was the weirdness about cash only and the shift to pushy vibes (after being initially friendly) with trying to get me to go to the ATM next door to withdraw cash and pay upfront.
I'm thinking they must have had a change of ownership in the 5-10 years since the 2 positive reviews here were posted. read more
