We were encouraged to use this shop by Richard who works there, we had a reasonable shopping experience and we agreed upon a bike, the price, and a lock. The bike was to be purchased with the payout by insurance for my stolen bike and would require we pay a top up of 30 Euro. Then as we went to get the bike we were told we owed another 80 Euro just for the bike, plus additional 30 for a lock. The reason being the type of insurance and insurance company charged the store 20% extra. We insisted this was not our burden, that the deal was struck and they should honour it: not charge us an additional 110 euros. In going back and forth with them, Nikolai was speaking with us and was extremely rude, treating myself and a friend with disrespect. I do not recommend this store to anyone! read more

I bought a second hands bicycle for no less than €300,- there a year ago . it is already broken. the service guy did ofcourse did not speak very well dutch en was only polite when he sold the bicycle. today I had to buy a NEW bicycle. WOULD DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND. If you're not a strong bike rider or you're an average height girl, this place will not give you a decent bike. Let me start by saying that my boyfriend and I were staying in Amsterdam for 3 days. We wanted to rent bikes, but didn't know where. We were eating at McDonald's (across the street) when he looked up and saw De Stradsfiets. We rented 2 bikes for 24 hours, €12.50 each. At first, the woman (reddish-blondish hair), seemed really nice, until I told her the bike she gave me was too big and heavy for me. I'm 5'5" (167 m), and she gave me the same size bike that my boyfriend 6'1" (186 m) was using. I couldn't touch the ground and it was extremely heavy; also, I'm not an experienced biker, so we kindly asked for a smaller bike. The woman brought me a bike without brakes (wtf?) then a kid's bike which was ridiculously small. After that, she started speaking in Dutch to her colleague (maybe son?) while laughing hysterically and saying "smaller bike" in English while pointing at me. It was really rude, and then she left. When her "son" finally brought in a bike for me, it was ugly, dirty, a bit rusty, NO GEARS (so dangerous!!) and the seat was way too small. Basically, it was an unrideable nightmare, but at least he tried unlike the woman. In the end, we kept them for about 18-20 hours because my bike was so dangerous and uncomfortable. We paid the next day and got out of there ASAP. read more

If you live in Amsterdam and especially if you are a tourist looking for an honest bicycle shop to rent, buy or obtain service on a bicycle, I highly recommend going out of your way if necessary to do business with these people! The owner of this business really understands how to deliver an outstanding customer service experience! I have been living in de Pijp (neighborhood) for almost 3 years and have been coming to this bicycle shop regularly. I've had many repairs done and rent bikes there whenever I have friends from the States visiting with me. After all this time, I finally bought my first new bike from the owner. The bicycle itself is amazing. I love it. But being a customer of this bicycle shop is what completes the experience. I know that I'm going to be great service and that I'm not going to get nickel and dimed on repairs. Case in point: Two days ago, I was biking home from work IN THE RAIN around 8 pm and ran over a piece of glass. POP! Flat tire... I walked about 10 minutes from that spot to de Stadsfiets hoping they might still be open. At 8:15 pm they were still there, putting up the bikes. If you live in Amsterdam you already know its almost impossible to find a bike shop that is open on a Wednesday at 8 pm. I dropped of my bike for repair to pick up in the morning. The next morning stopped by on the way to work to pick up my bike, prepared to pay their unusually cheap rates for flat repairs. The owner greeted me at 9:30 AM with a big smile on his face like an old friend and asked me how if I was enjoying my bike. I told him, I LOVE IT as I reached for my wallet. Then he told me, "Don't worry by friend. This gonna cost you nothing." :) I actually tried to refuse his generosity because he so often gives my girlfriend and me discount on little service items like this and honestly I feel paying his discounted fees is the least I can do. He told me, "No, don't worry. You've only had your new bike for a month. I take care of it." :)!!! This is the kind of customer service that turns a customer into an evangelist! New to Amsterdam, my co-rider and I needed bikes. We'd done the Waterlooplein markets - pretty much a waste of time, unless you're interested in spending fifty euro on a (possibly stolen) junker, or if you're lucky, find a 'rustic special'. We'd tried marktplaats: time-consuming, difficult with no English option, and in most cases geographically prohibitive. Lots of ads for bike stores though. Then we stumbled across De Stadsfiets, an old-school STORE. They had easily the best range of second-hand bikes we'd seen in Amsterdam. It was immediately evident that their prices were more than reasonable. And their staff were genuinely willing to help - and let us test-ride. We left with two bikes - one new, one used - two locks, some saddlebags, and a six-month warranty, all under a more-than-fair package deal price. Would send any other expat here first. read more

Never bring your bike here. Took my bike to this place so they could exchange the front wheel, plus put new handles. They ended up "forgetting" or otherwise removing the original Gazelle bell. Came to the store asking for it, and they offered me a cheap bell, that I didn't want. They told me I cannot have the original bell after a couple of days, that they don't know if I remove it -- Yeah, because that would be a better use of an engineer's time! read more

This place is great and the staff is adorbs! I went in for a chain lock for my bike and the man helping me was super friendly and helpful. I left thinking "That was so much fun!" Um, what? Buying a bike lock was fun? Yeah. Either I need more fun in my life or this place is just THAT great. (Hint: It's just THAT great.) Great selection of bike accessories and bikes! read more

I had such an interesting experience here & I would recommend them to everyone. I bought a bike...€200 for a €225 bike. I had it for a day and the chain was slipping. I brought it back & they asked if I wanted it repaired or a new bike. I decided to try getting it repaired. They gave me a loaner bike as this would take a few days. Unfortunately it couldnt be fixed & there were no other bikes in my price range comparable. So they offered my money back or to go check their other store by the Heineken Experience. I went to the other store but there was nothing. When I went back to the original store again...they felt so bad that I ended up getting an amazing bike at a great deal! I worked with 4 different salesmen and all of them were very helpful. If I need another bike in the future I will definitely start my look here. read more

Rented bikes here for a day and a half, and they gave us the day rate of 12.50 Euros. Quite a good deal. The bikes themselves are fine, they're the sort of hefty, built-to-last, tanks that I expect from rental bikes. You can see they've been bashed up a bit and well-worn, but overall worked fine. I think it was a 5 speed bike, although I cant remember because riding around the city didn't really require using all the gears. I wish the bikes came with a basket. One of our bikes had elastics for the rear rack, but the other didn't. They ask for 50 Euro deposit per bike, which they return at the end of the rental period. They open Saturday and Sunday, super convenient. Friendly service as well. read more

It was Sunday, so they were busy as a hoot owl. But they still gave me a good sales experience. I was initially intending to buy a second hand bike, but the shiny new models made me change my mind. They are verry unfriendly and the Bikes are in a very poor condition. Our Bikes where stolen, when me and my friends where in Amsterdam on our last day of the trip. The Guy in the Shop told us, after bitching arround and being unfriendly, that he will contact us if the Bikes show up in the City Bike Depot adn that he will give us our money back, which he took from us for the Bikes. When we called him them the day after, they ignored us. They did not even respond to Emails. I would strongly advise anyone to go to annother Bike rental and to inform himself about the Rental. read more

Need to rent a bike in a no nonsense manner? This is your spot! I got one for the day I was in Amsterdam and rode all over - the best way to get around in Amsterdam! The bike was nice and fit perfectly. Then on Queens Day eve, as everyone was out partying I ended up at some bar in the neighborhood and at 4am who stumbles in but the guy from this shop who's originally from Serbia and helped me with the bike rental and return. He treated me to some of Amsterdam's best, so that was the best customer service to finish up an all nighter leading up to Queens Day and my flight back home to San Francisco. read more

The stadsfiets is the best bikeshop from Amsterdam! They are my neighbours and they have great bikes for rent, to sell and you can repair your bike. I have seen tourist come back with happy faces. I really can recommend this place! read more
