Don't be afraid the try out the funky wooden bikes! Where else but in the Netherlands? I was biking 40 km round-trip to Keukenhof Gardens and carrying both a tri-pod and back pack, and Marcel got me a bike with a nice large wooden storage box at no additional charge. I picked it up one night and returned at closing time the next day - al for 20 euros. And he provided an excellent map of all the regional bike paths, and guidance on how to understand and interpret the signs. I would never have made it to Keukenhof without the extra help. Just be prepared, the store does not stand out. It's located in a large wearhouse-looking building and I walked right past it the first time.

I have only had the opportunity to rent one of their bicycles. The only negative is that they close very early (around 17:30), which is a big problem in the summer months. The range is quite decent and they have bicycles of all shapes and sizes, while in my experience the electric ones go out fairly quickly. Accordingly, you will see people in all shapes and sizes both while renting out as well as returning your bike after a tiring day of checking out the tulip fields. Transaction was quick and efficient. They do ask for a cash deposit so bring some with yourself.

They also sell insurance here for those occasions when you've had too much Heinekens and ride right over into the canal. Fun fact: a tour guide said they fish dozens of bikes from the canals every year. My only complaint was the steering column was crooked on my rental. You'll need to provide an ID card. They offer bike insurance for an additional price (not included in the iAmsterdam pass) and they seemed to have a slight attitude when I declined, but overall my experience was still good. I did see someone run over a beer bottle cap at the park which popped their tires, so maybe the bike insurance isn't so bad of an idea. The employees ensure that the bike frame and seat height fits and that we know how to use the locking mechanism before we get sent out. Bikes are in decent condition, functional for the most part, but could be better.
