You can buy new or second hand bikes, get your bike repaired or rent a bike for a fiver a day. Everyone working here is friendly and helpful, and completely honest. I'd had a few bad experiences with different bike rental/repair places in Leiden massively overcharging and being very unhelpful, but these guys are a pleasure to deal with and are always up front and reasonable about costs. I've been using Budget Bikes every time I've visited Leiden in the past three years and never had a bad experience.

The only negative is that they close very early (around 17:30), which is a big problem in the summer months. The range is quite decent and they have bicycles of all shapes and sizes, while in my experience the electric ones go out fairly quickly. Accordingly, you will see people in all shapes and sizes both while renting out as well as returning your bike after a tiring day of checking out the tulip fields. Transaction was quick and efficient. They do ask for a cash deposit so bring some with yourself.

Don't be afraid the try out the funky wooden bikes! Where else but in the Netherlands? I was biking 40 km round-trip to Keukenhof Gardens and carrying both a tri-pod and back pack, and Marcel got me a bike with a nice large wooden storage box at no additional charge. I picked it up one night and returned at closing time the next day - al for 20 euros. And he provided an excellent map of all the regional bike paths, and guidance on how to understand and interpret the signs. I would never have made it to Keukenhof without the extra help. Just be prepared, the store does not stand out. It's located in a large wearhouse-looking building and I walked right past it the first time.

Second, you need friendly and knowledgeable staff who are enthusiastic. They got both here. I came in for some tyres and maybe a new saddle. Sadly, I hit them in a moment where what I wanted wasn't in stock (odd because they had a great selection of Bromptons on the shelf already but maybe that's why all the tyre and brooks saddle I wanted was out). No problem. I'm having a problem with my rear dynamo light on my Brompton. Dude there helped me debug it (lights broken). Noticed I had an aftermarket part on my bike and said, hey I have some stuff from NOV Design for your bike. If you don't know they are a high end parts maker out of Korea - kinda hard to come by. He goes and pulls three boxes full of parts! Amazing! I had to stop myself from buying one of everything. Totally great! They also rent bikes here too if you need one on visit. Good people + Good parts = Good shop. It's that simple. But wait, then: Good people = Good shop - Good parts. Good (people) = Good (shop - parts). people = shop - parts. Ok forget my equation. It's still a great shop.

My family and I were looking to rent bicycles for the day. As visitors to the Netherlands, we could…read morenot take advantage of the OV Fiets system. I called multiple bicycle shops in town. Many required security deposits in cash per bicycle. Others didn't have bakfiets or accommodations for children. This shop has plenty of bicycles, single speed, 3-speed internal hubs with drum brakes, tandem bicycles where kids ride up front with an 8-speed Nexus hub, and rear hub motor electric bikes. Each rental comes with a lock and baskets that can be affixed on the rack. The rates are by the day or week. No deposit was required. We paid much less than the other places quoted. They have us some maps with routes and sent us on our way. The bikes were in great condition. Our 20km went very easily. The shop is little bit out of town by the beach, bit there is plenty of street parking.
