two takeout containers of food

SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!! The place looks run down and smelled like mold. Our food was edible but did not taste good. The meat was tough and we couldn't even chew it. We picked at it and ultimately ended up throwing it away. We were told the food would take 8 mins to come out and it took 30. Two other patrons complained of the same thing. We were served and never checked on again. The whole experience was bad.

I am giving this place 4 stars only because the food is overpriced. Other than that I give the food 5 stars. I ordered several times Egusi with fish on the side. It seems like a small portion but I actually ate it for two meals. It is so delicious. This is the only dish I order from a Nigerian restaurant. I am am Egusi connoisseur. Thre are about three Nigerian restaurants around me and this is the best one and only one that I will order from.

I didn't realize where the restaurant was located beforehand, so I was a little surprised when I arrived. It's in a very urban area, which may or may not matter depending on your comfort level. There was a decent amount of seating inside if you choose to dine in. The restaurant was okay in terms of cleanliness, but personally, I'd opt for takeout. I originally planned to eat inside but changed my mind once I got there. Unfortunately, the customer service wasn't the best. I wasn't greeted when I walked in, and when I received my order, the takeout container wasn't fully closed and was placed halfway into the bag. I'm not sure if it was just an oversight, but it didn't leave the best first impression. Now, the food, that's where they won me over. Everything was well-seasoned, and the suya had just the right amount of spice. They were out of the vegetable I originally wanted, but I'm actually glad I tried the corn because it was absolutely delicious. And that suya butter sauce? It was the star of the meal! Overall, while the location and customer service weren't my favorite, the food was flavorful enough that I'd come back if I were in the area and craving suya.

This was a good experience from start to finish. I'm so glad that my first exposure to Ghanaian…read morefood was with Chef Eric Adjepong. As always my first time somewhere, I order a lot. I arrived some short time after Chef Eric introduced a prix fixe menu with standout choices. Not on my radar, but highly recommended by my server and the table leaving as I was seated, was the Zaalouk Dip featuring eggplant and goat cheese served with flatbread. Somehow the cheese brightened this dish. I can't explain it, but try it for yourself. I'm a huge fan of okra in all forms, so I added the Crispy Okra Fries. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. I would also love it if Chef Eric added a spicy dip in addition to the creamy dip that it came with. I wished I were at home with one of my favorite movies and a huge bowl of these -- so good! Also not on my radar, Roasted Carrots. I may have to come back to this review, because I need to pray for better adjectives to describe this dish. I'm half-Korean so when I read chili crisp in the description, I expected a very spicy dish. Hold your horses! Do not be alarmed! This was the most earthy, enjoyable, balanced dish I've ever eaten with carrots. The cheese(s), as in the dip dish, are transformational. I truly could have stopped here and been completely satisfied. I'm very pleased I was able to share my sentiments directly with Chef Eric. By the way, he was very warm and gracious. As Maroon, Las Vegas has set a new standard for steak, Chef Eric Adjepong has elevated the lowly carrot by creating this inspired dish. The ritual: a clear bowl of soapy water, a fresh white towel, a steaming bowl of goodness. The book I can write about my first experience with Fufu. I could have eaten the Fufu swirling it around in the peanut? tomato? broth by itself and been as happy as a pig in slop. Instead, I had the most perfectly cooked seared fish with it. I could have gotten up and danced to the Afrobeats, and what sounded like the Calypso I heard from my childhood. I was stuffed, but I kept eating. I ate every drop. I wanted to lick the bowl. It could not get any better. Wait . . . I was served a Jollof and Duck Pot. The presentation of this dish is so pristine, you really won't want to disturb it. However, I had to taste this Jollof. My first Jollof dish was merely days before, prepared with a Nigerian recipe. I didn't understand what all the hype was about. Chef Eric's Jollof answered my confusion. I'm pleased to say in the battle of two local Top Chefs (Nigeria vs. Ghana), Elmina and Ghana wins! No contest, hands-down, no notes, have a seat, can never be debated . . . Did I make myself clear? The duck was succulent and another surprise, the tiny salad was a star! Again, a thoughtful, bright and balanced dish, perfection. The night ended with an espresso and Malva Pudding Cake. This cake is not for the weak. The richness and texture is not to be toyed with. This was the perfect ending to a fun, unexpected, thrilling meal. I trust Chef Eric will be able to take his precise, alluring talents across the globe, and hopefully to Miami, soon!

ZIP! ZERO! ZILCH! No complaints. Oh, we had a time!…read more Located off bustling 14th St. in NW, DC, parking can be sketchy...so be prepared to circle the block. I was lucky to find parking and I was on time for my reservation. The downstairs level is a bit small. The kitchen is an open concept, which I love. We ordered a few dishes, to include: oysters, half chicken, fish (I forgot the type), and curry shrimp with chickpeas. The two stars of the evening were the oysters and the half chicken. The presentation of the oysters was so pretty -- almost too pretty to eat! It had a hibiscus finish with jalapeños. Delectable. The chicken was well-seasoned and beyond moist; didn't know chicken could melt in your mouth. It's a lot of chicken, so you will have leftovers. While the fish and curry shrimp were good, I don't think I would order them again. Nothing bad, just not memorable. Lastly, I think Elmina rotates their menu every now and again, so some of the dishes I mentioned may no longer be available. We really had a good time. I've been dying to go back...hopefully, soon! Cheers!

Ah ah so THIS is what we are doing now in the DMV? A whole WEST AFRICAN BUFFET??…read more Listen ehn, I have been to Jollof Etc before for regular dinner so I already knew the standard of food there is not play play. But seeing them attempt this buffet concept for Valentine's Day, Easter Sunday (when I went), and now again for Mother's Day this Sunday? I actually respect the initiative Everybody is always shouting rubbish this ____, and rubbish that ___ meanwhile OUR OWN cultural foods are sitting right here in Silver Spring looking delicious and full of flavor. When I say all the staples were THERE, I mean THEY WERE THERE Amala Moi moi Pepper soup Jollof rice Fried rice Everything hot, fresh, flavorful and tasting like somebody's mother entered that kitchen with warning And can we discuss the drinks please?? Non alcoholic but SWEET, refreshing and pairing perfectly with all the food. Very family friendly atmosphere too. You can bring auntie, uncle, cousins, everybody Now let me tell the truth small because you know I don't lie for reviews The wait time? Hmmm. Table organization? They can improve that one too because people were kinda just standing around confused at moments. BUT no wahala this is still a new venture for them and honestly I can already see the vision. The most important thing for me? Their service was AMAZING and they accepted feedback very well instead of doing attitude. That part matters. I actually want to see this succeed because we need more innovative African food experiences in the DMV that push our cuisine to the forefront instead of acting like only tacos and burgers exist outside Jollof Etc Silver Spring, Maryland

Customer service at the Hyattsville Jollof Etc. location is abysmal. Foluke, the…read morereceptionist/hostess, is extremely rude and unprofessional. She lacks basic manners, phone etiquette, and respect for patrons. She even hung up the phone when I called to confirm an order that I had called in and paid for in advance - an order of $200+! Even if it was $2, you don't address anyone patronizing your restaurant in that manner. I would recommend trying the Silver Spring location where the receptionist/hostess is far more polite, respectful, and committed to finding a resolution.
