So disappointed. We loved our stay at The Bauer. Exquisite. That's why the restaurant was such a bummer.
Mother, daughter, last meal of trip. It was arranged through the concierge who gave us a nice € discount and "squeezed" us into their schedule. Cutting right to the chase, this is quite a trick-- give guests a discount to your restaurant. You know they'll use it.
The food was unremarkable. The service was absolutely despicable.
The waiter endears himself -- to everyone, I watched him. His story to us was that his father was from Taormina, which I love, his mother from "where the bikini was born". Doubtful.
But we took his advice for wine as he had gone on and on about it. It was just okay.
The sun was setting, lovers held hands and gazed into each other's eyes over the glowing candles. Same colors reflecting on the shimmering canal.
But. . . where's our waiter? Oh, everywhere. We got extremely agitated. I don't know the cause but they seemed totally in the weeds.
About this time we'd finished our wine. Got his attention to order another bottle. Well, guess what? That highly touted wine? That was the only bottle they had! Can you believe that? So he recommended another and *promised* it would be as good. Whatever. . .
We were so overlooked I finally turned around and asked of a warm body, "Can we get a waiter?"
