Several televisions to enjoy whatever sporting event is the "must see" event and a couple of dart boards at the back. I did not sample anything from the small menu but the owner (?) did walk around with a tray of what I thought were biterballen but was infact not full of mystery meat at all but some Asian noodle, good and on the house as well :) So to say the least and enjoyable experience and already recommended to some American colleagues. :D

The bartenders were busy but nice and took care to explain the creative and extensive menu. The second time I came I made a reservation for two online. You pay for the reservation but that amount is then applied to your check. The drinks are quite good and I understand the need for the reservation. He said water, so I assumed it was it was tinted from the lighting. When I took a sip it was a flavored water. I asked if it was gluten-free and he was very rude in his response. Basically was like um yea it just has spices in it. Spices may not be gluten free and could be of concern for a celiac. I asked him if any drinks were gluten free and he said all but 2. I wasn't confident that the drinks would be made separately from the non- gluten drinks so I opted not to get one. My friend got the bees knees and said it was really tasty. The server did come back and switch my water to regular at the end but he should have been upfront with what he gave to prevent any exposure to peoples allergies.

This is the kind of bar you want to be able to walk home from…read more To begin with, we almost missed this delightful local charmer. We looked in and saw only one person sitting quietly at the bar. It looked dead and we decided to move along. A half block later something strange happened as we felt a cosmic pull back to the bar. Turning around we went in and the rest of our life changed. Cafe de Singel turned out to be a singularly special moment in our trip to Amersfoort. So much so that I hesitate to write this as it is someplace we want to hold dear to our hearts and not really share..... This Brown Cafe transcends the typical and elevates itself into it's own category. Replete with the standard dark interior, eclectic decorations (this time of antique flying machines) and an under spoken street scene what opens up inside can only be described as pure gezellig. To put it simply we stopped in for a drink and ended up spending 3 1/2 hours here, made at least 15 new friends and not only learned the low down on Amersfoort but listened to great music and had a kick-ass good time.
