KC bbq in Amsterdam!! I have only been once but will be back. They smoke the meats in house and all the sides are homemade as well. We started with some delicious cocktails and the fried burnt ends. The burnt ends were so good. Little chunks of charred brisket served with bbq sauce (nice and vinegary) and ranch (first I have had here). For entrees we went with the three side plate and the brisket. All entrees some with a side, little cornbread muffins, and picked veg (beets when we went). The baked beans were quite good. Lots of brisket in the beans. Not sweet at all but rich and full of flavor. The potato salad was quite good as well. Not overly mayonnaisey but like a proper potato salad. The slaw was okay. I like vinegar flavor but the cabbage should have been sliced thinner in my opinion. The brisket was quite tasty. Cooked perfectly so it flakes away, juicy and full of flavor. Great service. We learned about the place, the menu, and good wine recommendation. The desserts sounded good but we were too full. Next time.

Eating at Pendergast was the best decision of our trip to Amsterdam! The food was delicious, the service attentive, the drinks perfect and overall, just a wonderful experience. Having eaten BBQ at some of the 'best' places in the US from Memphis, to Austin, I can say that the BBQ and the sauce at Pendergast beat all of them by a mile! The short ribs and pork loin ribs were the most delicious and moist ribs I've ever had...ever! I'm still thinking about them a day later and wishing I had more room in my stomach to eat more! Pescatarian friends had the salmon and said it was one of the best preparations of salmon they've ever had. And that's saying a lot since we live in Seattle! The lemon tart was a true lemon lover's dream. Not too sweet like most lemon tarts. Really beautiful tart...it is called a tart after all! Just perfect meringue on top as well. I've already told several people about Pendergast and can't wait to return to Amsterdam because I love the city, but also because I love the food at Pendergast! And thanks to owner Brandon for taking the time to give lots of recommendations for cafes, restaurants and other must see sights! We did the Brandon tour of Amsterdam today and couldn't have been happier!

This spot has been getting a lot of attention recently, and being so close, we just had to give it a shot! We made a reservation for 5:30 and once we were seated, we were given the menu (in English) and told about the specials and substitutions. For this night, they added pulled pork to the menu (which should always be on it, in my opinion!), and they had a substitute of potato salad for potato mash...not really a switch since mashed potatoes and potato salad aren't interchangeable. But we didn't get it, so I can't review it. Small note: Though they open at 5:00pm, the kitchen doesn't open until 6:00pm. We did get the spread for two. This includes 3 mains and 3 sides plus 4 small pieces of corn bread. We went for the ribs, the pulled pork, and the beef brisket with mac & cheese, collared greens, and baked beans. Ribs were very nice. Great flavor and basically fall of the bone. Sadly, the last two were mostly fat. The pulled pork was very nice and their homemade sauce, which alone tasted a bit too much of cumin, went nicely with it. This was my favorite meat. The beef brisket looked good but was just okay. Something was off, maybe it had sat under a heat lamp too long or something, but the meat was a bit mushy and not moist. Not sure how to explain it exactly. The flavor was nice though. Sean loved the collared greens. I may be from the South, but I never ate them. They did look beautiful though. Bright green but not mushy. Baked beans weren't what I was expecting, but they were good. Beans included kidney beans, large white beans, chickpeas (why?), and pieces of brisket. Beans were cooked perfectly. The mac & cheese. This was my biggest issue. If you're going to be a "Southern" restaurant, you can't make mac & cheese with Dutch cheese. I'm sorry. I like Dutch cheese, but not in this way. There was cheddar and Parmesan cheese in it as well, but that combo is not Southern. Though I've been to spots in Amsterdam that basically serve Kraft mac & cheese, so at least Pendergast tried to make it homemade! For portion size, they aren't huge. The sides are bigger than you might need, but I feel like there could have been just a bit more of each of the meats, like 2-3 more ribs, one more piece of brisket and another 1/4 cup of pulled pork. But I left full, not stuffed. The service was nice and the ladies were great to us! It's nicely to see more Southern food popping up to give me a taste of home! Quick suggestion, sweet tea!!

Amazing comfort food. Especially for this American woman in Amsterdam. The brisket was superb. Superb I tell you! And the service is great. I'll go back. A lot.

Shared platter, pork ribs, beef rib and pork cheeks. Sides kale, mash and salaf

THE BEST beans and BBQ. Great cocktails, cozy atmosphere. This is a hidden gem in a big city. Definitely worth the trip off the beaten path.

Staff were welcoming and jovial, joking with us from the beginning. . Very lively fun atmosphere here. Capable of seating a group of 4-6 around tables if needed, We started with a Negroni and a gin and tonic, both made with Jenever. Our food orders were based on other Yelp reviews praising the rubs here: We ordered a normal spare ribs (pork) classic dry rub (comes with salad and two sauces (similar to ranch and thousand island) and a normal mixed. We ordered a baked potato on the side to share, which comes with garlic butter. They also brought plain bread slices on the side. The pork ribs were both tender and flavorful. My husband liked the classic dry rub better than the smoked. The salad was crispy thanks to celery slices. The garlic butter on the baked potato was creamy, strong, and addictive.. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. When we left, we asked the mamager where the sister bar was located exactly and he directed us across the street to Cafe GDG.the adventure continues! Highly recommend!

A normal full bar and friendly quick service. Our steak was done as requested (med. rare) and very tasty. Got the classic ribs and were dry rubbed so it was tasty and tender- on the drier side with little fat. Would have loved bbq sauce on the side instead of the white garlic sauce and the Thousand Island sauce (weird) . Enjoyed the baked potato and chopped salad with a sweet vinaigrette. Plain French bread slices accompanied meals- no butter. Outside seating available. Friendly service.

The nachos were just ok. I hear the pizza is good. The interiors aren't very warm or cozy though - almost trying too hard to be stylish - that I'm not sure if it's a place that I would go back to for dinner. Marathonweg (the name of the street and the restaurant) actually has a few establishments up and down. I ordered the steak frites for lunch which comes with a massive salad and matchstick fries..separately. So be patient if it doesn't all come at once. I ordered it medium-rare knowing full well it would come out medium -- Jason: 1 Dutch Chefs: 0. The steak cut itself is hard to explain. It wasn't quite a baseball steak but I think that's what they were going for. It was very tender and flavourful. The frites were great and there was more than enough mayo on the side. The salad was fresh arugula with cherry tomatoes. Others dining with me had the varying options of open-faced sandwiches with other meats (chicken, steak). The price was a bit steep for lunch (nearly 20 euro) but you have to splurge once in a while right? The setting is quite nice and I can see this place being a great dinner or higher end borrel spot with good ambient lighting and cozy tables. There is a completely separate menu for dinner but both menus are provided so it may be confusing when you think you can order a dinner dish for lunch.

It's a nice little place, you can sit in the front of the restaurant where the chefs are cooking or the back dining room, away from the outer doors. We opted for the front, it was neat to watch them cut and cook our meat. We went with the Wagyu carpaccio, scallops, and tuna tartare as the appetizers. These were all absolutely incredible. So fresh tasting, made to perfection. The right amount of flavor. Next we ordered the tomahawk. We didn't realize until after we were eating that it was bison. It was so fantastic, I'm actually glad we didn't know because neither myself or husband had ever tried it before so it gave us the chance to try something new that we may not have ordered. It was cooked perfectly for us. The right amount of pink. It was so tender to chew and in my opinion the right about of fat on the cut. The lobster was great, it had the right amount of butter than a slight hint of lemon, not overpowering. The breads were good but the butters stood out, absolutely heavenly. So creamy and flavorful. I am going to dream about this when we leave. The broccoli/cauliflower and mushrooms were just ok to us, nothing gave us a wow on them. Overall the meal was fantastic. My husband said it was the best meal in his life. Our server was very kind and attentive. The chef and owner were also exceptional. Everyone made us feel very welcomed and taken care of. We never felt like we were being overlooked or ignored. We would recommend this place if you're looking for a great meal and service and not a bad price tag. For the quality of food, the price is on par with that and worth it all.
