However the menu didn't just consist out of steak. For starters we shared some bread with three different sauces. Garlic, red pesto and 'kruidenboter'. The bread was fresh and the sauces were flavorful. The main dish was of course the steak (Dikbil) with pepper sauce (optional). Tender, juicy, the right amount and overall just very good. Steak can be mouthwatering, excellent, good or bad and I would rate it somewhere in between excellent and good. The added fries and baked potatos were crisp and firm. Dessert was nothing special. The Dame Blanche was a-okay. We got here with the AH Restaurantzegel-actie, which meant every second guests meal was free of charge. Or so it seems. They charged supplements for a variety of things, which they let us know prior to ordering so no fishy (pun intended) stuff going on. Nonetheless with all the supplements (the steak cost an added €5) we did end up with a bill that I found a bit overpriced considering the overall experience. It was packed when I visited. I enjoyed my meal when I visited this cafe today. The service was friendly and speedy which is a big deal especially when you live in NL. LOL The name of the cafe HOLY SMOKE can be quite deceiving in my opinion. I was really hoping it would be a BBQ smoke house. However, they don't smoke any of their meats. They should consider smoking their meat which will put them apart from the rest of the burger joints in Rotterdam. As of now, they are not bad at all. I find them slightly above average. The pork belly my friend ordered was so so. It was not bad but my friend didn't find anything special with it. In the other hand, the poussin another friend ordered was delicious according to him. Overall, HOLY SMOKE tries to capture the spirit of Southern American BBQ smokehouse dinner vibe. In many ways, they succeed. It reminds me a bit of the good old souther smokehouse joint you'd find in the southern states of US but much more hip and chic. It is just the flavor is lacking quite a bit. Please, if you consider opening another burger or bbq joint in Rotterdam, either smoke your meat or do something creative with your meat. :-)
