De Steek as the name implies, serves steak. If the Dikbil that I ordered was any indication of the rest of the menu I will be impressed considering De Steek is tucked somewhere in the residential area of Kralingen out of plain sight.
However the menu didn't just consist out of steak.
For starters we shared some bread with three different sauces. Garlic, red pesto and 'kruidenboter'. The bread was fresh and the sauces were flavorful.
The main dish was of course the steak (Dikbil) with pepper sauce (optional). Tender, juicy, the right amount and overall just very good. Steak can be mouthwatering, excellent, good or bad and I would rate it somewhere in between excellent and good. The added fries and baked potatos were crisp and firm.
Dessert was nothing special. The Dame Blanche was a-okay.
We got here with the AH Restaurantzegel-actie, which meant every second guests meal was free of charge. Or so it seems. They charged supplements for a variety of things, which they let us know prior to ordering so no fishy (pun intended) stuff going on. Nonetheless with all the supplements (the steak cost an added €5) we did end up with a bill that I found a bit overpriced considering the overall experience.
So have some money to spend and in for some steak, De Steek is a decent option. read more
