If you arrive to Leiden Centraal,, it is maybe a five minute walk to where the market is held, just look it up on Google. Once we had walked around for a while, we decided it was time for some lunch and wanted to have lunch by the canal. Annie's was the perfect spot as you walked down the steps and the tables are literally right on the canal. I ordered the tuna sandwich and it was absolutely fantastic, a perfect blend of tuna, red onion, and other stuff I cannot describe, but it was fabulous. My wife and I had the chef surprise 4 course menu with wine pairing, and what a treat it was. From a very simple cheese and salad amuse bouche, smoked sea bass and mixed fish starter, an incredible house smoked duck breast (with home made fig and nut chutney) and a very interesting rabbit ragu and finally a desert collection; everything was perfect! Wine pairings were also very interesting, all obscure European sourced wines that matched the food perfectly. Including, something I had never heard of before, a pinot grigio from Luxembourg. If you like good, French style, food I strongly suggest you try De Eetkamer. Heck, the next time you are in the Netherlands and you like good food, this place is worth a visit. The cafe is quite big and also has a terrace in front of it. There are a lot of seats and tables but still they could be all taken if you come here during the weekend because it's such a popular place. I tried a cheese cake with berry rose sauce and beetroot nut cake and they were both delicious. The coffee is also nice. The interior is lovely. This is honestly the best fine dining restaurant in Leiden. It is French cuisine as you can tell by the name and we ended up getting 4 courses. They start you off with a complimentary appetizer. The penultimate course (the main) was this exquisite duck breast and it was topped off with a gin and tonic dessert (fruity and creamy). There were no unforeseen delays - that's just how they roll. It can be nice if you're prepared for it. I also found the food, while excellent and high-quality, was sometimes a bit too experimental.
