I really love this place and can't recommend it enough! This is a Trinidadian/Caribbean spot run by a mother, daughter, and son. They are the nicest people! The restaurant is clean and well lit. We had pepper fries made with onions and habanero peppers to start. They were hot, crisp, and bursting with flavor and pleasant heat. We also had the aloo pie, which is a potato pie, similar to an empanada, but the dough is softer. Also spicy in a good way. I had the chicken curry roti and my husband had the vegetable roti. The chicken was juicy. Both were so tasty. You can get dosti or dhalpuri roti. Portion sizes are huge and prices are reasonable. They also have fun drinks and treats to buy. They have lots of other side dishes and vegetarian dishes as well as a kids menu. Everything is made from scratch! Please support this family business!

Everything was so good! The Roti and Ultimate patty sandwich were unreal. The place was really clean, and they had easy to find and cheap (under $3) street parking.

I dined here to support a family owned business and get some trini food! I have never had Trinidadian food and asked the son, who was working the counter for some help deciding what to order. He patiently answered my questions, and made good recommendations on must have eats if you want to try classic Trinidadian dishes. We ended up trying a double, which is chickpeas with tamarind chutney and other heavenly goodness on top of a fluffy bread that kinda looks like a messy taco. It. Was. Delicious. I could have easily eaten several of those and been very happy. It is a nice vegetarian option coming from a meat eater. We also tried the roti with curried chicken. You can have it wrapped up like a burrito or separate and use the bread/wrap to scoop up your food and eat it. There are two types of bread that you can choose. I chose the dahlpuri, which costs a dollar extra and is lightly spiced, but thinner, so my filling was double wrapped. The dosti skin is a bit thicker. Anyway, it is essentially big ass sandwich and very filling. I split it into two meals. Everything comes with a side of Tamarind sauce on the side, and that sauce is boss. If you are wondering what Trinidadian food tastes like, it is kind of like Jamaican and Indian food got together and had a baby. Metered street parking is available, and there seems to be a parking garage down the street. Come out and support this nice family business for good local eats.

    Stew Chicken Combo Plate

TLDR: Came because of the passionate recommendations to try their food, and was happy with the food I came to this town for a work trip, and the people I met here highly recommended this place. They told me that it was good and spicy, and I had not tried any of the local foods yet, so I was excited to try this place after work. The location is in the middle of downtown Binghamton, amidst a bunch of other restaurants. There's coin parking out front. Walking in, the cashiers are nice and friendly. My cashier recommended their combo platter - she said that it was her favorite. The combo platter came with their stew chicken (which was spiced well, slightly greasy, and soft), white rice, and Mac and cheese (which was my favorite part - well baked with a nice toasty crust). It was a bit more expensive than I expected for the food, and it didn't taste much different from anything I was used to. However, I would definitely go again to try the other foods on the menu and to support the local business.

Walked by the store front after having had lunch across the street at Craft Bar and Kitchen. Sadly if you read my review for them, there was nothing Crafty about my experience. It was more like Sloppy makeshift kitchen cafe with overpriced food. I tell you this, had i seen De Island Hut, first, i gladly would have had lunch here. Anyways i order 2 doubles with everything one it and i told them to make it spicy because i love my food with a lot of heat. The guy at the register asked me if i ever had a double and i reply, yeah am from Queens NY, we have lots of Trini places that sell them and make it fresh. He said let me make the doubles fresh, please wait about 8 minutes. While they do not have a lot of seating in the store, the place is clean and well put together. When my doubles came out I could smell the spices, the curry and obviously the bag was very warm. I told the guy, next time i am in the neighborhood, i will make it a point to eat here with my family. Great food, healthy choices available on the menu.

When I see a place to get some Trini food I go. It was delicious. The doubles were great. I'd definitely go again to try something new.

It took…read moreme a while to get down here though, I drove by once and it looked open but I was busy so I didn't go. Then I tried going a couple more times but they looked closed. I finally went in about a month or so ago and I haven't been back, nor do I have the desire to go back. Things were disappointing right off the bat. I found a website where it said they had fried chicken. I saw the menu and didn't see fried chicken on it, so I asked about it and then they pointed to the part of the menu that said "fried wings". I passed and went with the jerk chicken instead. the flavor of it was good but it was pretty dry. they were out of the 2 sides I wanted too (rasta pasta and potato salad), so I went with the dirty rice and mac salad. the dirty rice was ok but the mac salad seemed like it might not have been homemade, and I think it had tuna in it, which I hate. I also ordered the ribs. I was disappointed to see that they were beef ribs instead of pork, and the ribs had barely any meat on them. then to add insult to injury they only gave me 2 ribs in the order! the flavor was decent but the sauce they used was an asian style chilli sauce, which a lot of restaurants have as a "sweet and spicy" sauce. it's a good sauce but not homemade. the onion rings were weak too, they were a brand you can buy at the weis and pop in your oven at home. the mac n cheese was decent, same style as jrama's but actually a little better. The thing that upset me most was the price. The menu said "all meals $10 and up". There was another part that gave prices for extra sides, so I assumed the "and up" part meant extra sides would cost more money. Well that's not what they meant. I thought the 2 meals were gunna cost $20. They ended up being $29. what kind of place doesn't list their actual places on the menu?! what a joke! I felt swindled even before I tried the lackluster underportioned food! The inside is nothing nice either. even though the building is a good size the front dining room is tiny, there's a counter where you order and then like 2 small tables. If the food was good I'd recommend doing take out instead of dining in, but since the food was a rip off I'd suggest avoiding this place altogether.

We ordered the Large Fricassee Chicken (with chicken leg and chicken tender) and the Small Curry Chicken. The woman who was working was very kind, answered all our questions, and gave us recommendations! The large entrees came with 2 sides which were the Mac n Cheese and the Cabbage and the meat is served over rice and beans. The small entrees came with 1 side which was the Cabbage (meat also served over rice and beans). I absolutely loved both meats I tried. The Fricassee Chicken had both juicy and some slightly tougher spots but was overall very flavorful. It came with bell peppers which brought a nice bright crunch to the heavier meal. The Curry Chicken was also very flavorful and saucy. For the sides: Personally, I'm not a mac and cheese fan but this was soo good. I highly recommend getting the large; great portion size and definitely can fill you up for 2 meals easily. I loved trying a bit of everything together - the chicken, the mac and cheese, the sauce, the rice and beans... soo good. I'd recommend you come and support a locally owned business!
