Fun street market that sells a variety of items, from clothes to food and anything you can imagine. My main purpose for walking through these streets was for food. Everything was very affordable. I was able to try a lot of Amsterdam specialties such as raw herring, poffertjes, grilled cheese, and stroopwafels. Everything was delicious! Great place to check out and do some shopping. read more

These stroopwafles are my absolute favorite sweet treat!! I have had many all over the world but the warmth and crisp of these waffles is amazing. The inside sugary syrup is the perfect touch of sweet. You can get these with a bit of chocolate sauce on them but honestly the original stroopwafle with no chocolate is perfect as it is. Watching the gentlemen make these really showed how much he loves his trade. This booth and this farmers market is a MUST SEE while in Amsterdam. read more

This street market reminded me of the many street fairs we have in NYC. I bit tacky, but at times, you can find something interesting, if you look hard. I was told not to go here by a colleague, but since I was on my bike while wandering around, I just decided to give it a whirl. What the heck? I was already here. You'll find cheap clothes and shoes for sale here, along with cheese shops, and also a few vendors selling rotisserie chicken, nuts, dried fruits, chocolate, stroopwaffles, herring, hot cocoa and even a stall for Vietnamese food. Nothing terribly exciting here, but if you want the usual souvenirs of T-shirts, post cards, blah, blah, blah, you'll find it here. If you're from a bigger city, you've probably already been to markets like this. It wasn't the flea market type of market I was hoping for - no vintage paraphernalia or the like at all, mostly just generic souvenir/clothing stands that are a bit tacky and overpriced. Any New Yorkers will instantly be familiar with this summer street festival kind of layout. There's no real order to the shops here, as you'll find clothes, spices, toys, cheeses, hot sauces, jewelry, etc all together. On the plus side, there are a number of street food stands serving traditional Dutch snacks like poffertjes, stroopwafel, and herring, which is nice for any visitors looking to try them all without having to travel to different areas. Unsurprisingly, the market gets very crowded on the weekends so try to come early if you can. read more

Have you ever been to a farmers market in the US? It's like that. But bigger. And more frequent. It has all the veggies you'd expect as an American. ALL OF THEM. It has booths for traditional dutch stuff, and snacks, and clothes, and trickets... The only complaint I have is that it has become so permanent that many of the vendors are simply store owners dragging their normal merchandise 10 meters out their front door into the street. read more

The Albert Cuypmarkt is definitely a must do when visiting Amsterdam. Just walking through the market you get a real sense of the culture. There were so many food stands I couldn't help myself in trying all the traditional Amsterdam street food. I kept my eye out for the Stroopwaffles and was so excited when I found them. You could buy packaged stroopwaffles in the shops but they do not compare to a fresh hot street stroopwaffle. I went up the the stand and took a picture as the man was making my stroopwaffle. He then asked.. "Do you want a picture?" and i said "Sure!" and he stood and posed with it with a big smile on his face! It was great! He clearly enjoys his job. Everyone at the market was so polite and friendly. After finishing my stroopwaffle I stumbled along the mini pancakes, called poffertjes, which looked amazing. I watched in amazement as a man quickly made these little pancakes on a special skillet. He then plated them and covered them in nutella and powdered sugar! Loved this market! Saw it on the 16 tram and hopped off. They sell fresh flowers, meat, vege, bread, clothes and touristy souvenirs. Lots of food too: profitjes, soups, juices, stroopwaffels, lollies, herring, and fries and croquettes on the very end (or beginning - depending how you start). Prices are great. If you have a spare hour it is great to sample cheap and local Dutch food at fantastic prices. They all speak perfect English and are super friendly :) read more

After being able to walk around the market for an hour, I must say that it's a must-see. It's a shame I couldn't wander around longer. I could spend hours just eating my way through the market, through countless stroopwaffels and with some of the best fresh churros I've ever had in my life. Incredibly cheap souvenirs and tasty local food! I loved the poffertjes (mini pancakes), fresh stroopwaffles, and the Vietnamese lumpia stand! Also very tasty were the chicken samples being handed out. We bought all of our souvenirs here for half the price of what we saw in the main tourist areas. Be sure to schedule at least 1 to 2 hours to walk up and down the market. Also note that the only bathrooms you will find are in bars and restaurants along the way. read more

There's something rather satisfying about eating and shopping at the same time. Nice outdoors marketplace to take a morning stroll. We came here to try the Stroopwafels. Note that the vendors start opening shop between 9-10 and the Stroopwafels cart opens at 10:30. Also had bbq chicken and wings from a food stall that claims to have "the best chicken in the market" and that claim was true because we also ordered chicken from the stall next to them and it wasn't that good. A must-visit food and wares market. I didn't care much for the wares, which is fairly typical flea-market stuff (although we did buy some socks lol) but the food was amazing. Try the poffertjes...a stack of ridiculously delicious mini pancakes served on a pad of butter and doused with icing sugar. Try the stroopwaffle....a gooey layer of caramel sandwiched between two thin, crunchy waffle biscuits. Try the herring on a bun with onions and pickles. Try the Dutch frites with mayo...because you're in Amsterdam and it's illegal not to :) Take the tram to Albert Cuypstraat and arrive hungry (preferably stoned). read more

A decently sized outdoor street market with food and goods vendors. I have a fondness for street markets and it's a lot of fun to slowly meander through it, snacking and shopping hand in hand. Definitely not really much to see, but it's more about the experience. It's a good outdoor activity and a nice break from the museums tourist bit. If you really want to sample several kinds of Dutch foods in one place, this market is for you. If you need some souvenirs, luggage, or some other miscellaneous item, then this market might do the trick. SX and I went for the food and snacked through the market. Fried seafood (fried cod), waffle slathered in rich, milk chocolate and nuts, herring sandwich, chicken in sandwich-form and ball-form, etc. We went pretty early and unfortunately the stroopwafel vendor wasn't in yet. Also did not see the poffertjes vendor either. I was really disappointed that we missed out on that. read more

The Albert Cuypmarkt is a fun little place to stop at for a little bit of bargain shopping, as well as for some authentic local cuisine. Since I've been here many times before, I usually come here to take care of two things... get Amsterdam shirts for my dad and get souvenirs for friends and co-workers. Speaking of souvenirs... if you have a lot of people to get stuff for, don't want to spend much money, and don't want to spend too much time looking for gifts for everyone, just stop by any of the souvenir stands or shops (you'll only need to stop at one because they all have the same stuff) and you can buy 50 unique postcards for like 5-10 euro. 5 minutes and 10 euro is time well spent taking care of 50 people, right? The prices here are great and you can really find anything... I recommend if you forget anything from home or are staying at a non-hotel, stop here for shirts, socks, and all that stuff. You can find great food here too like the local favorites herring, bakaljaw, gouda, and tempeh. read more

So much to see and do. Bought delicious pepper dews stuffed with creamy cheese in oil from a sausage and cheese stand. The poffertjes were excellent, mind blowing little hot pancakes from heaven, dusted with confectionary sugar and a chunk of butter. They just melt the butter and soak it up. You can stand right there and eat them. It's a treat to watch them being made too. Had mixed variety of bitterballen, cheese, beef and mussels accompanied by ghluwein (spiced, warm wine for the cold wintry days) at an eet cafe near the entrance of the market. Lots of wonderful produce and glorious seafare. The nuts stand is crazy, and of course there's a sexy chocolate stand (it is Amsterdam after all). Do yourself a favour and spend a day there. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I loved it so much I went here twice haha. It's a pretty big outdoor market that has everything you can think of. The first time I went here, I didn't know my way around Amsterdam so I walked *whew*, second time I biked (thank god). Which, btw being someone who doesn't bike EVER...biking around Amsterdam was pretty scary at first but super fun once I got the hang of traffic. ANYWAY, I tried a bunch of food but here were my favorites: Stroopwaffel: Pretty sweet, but really tasty! I could probably eat one weekly, but sadly of course I don't have access to this back home Chicken: This sounds so simple, but I assure you it wasn't. There is this area at the market that sells chicken (wings, whole, raw, cooked, etc.) and I decided, why not? The chicken was so moist and the flavor was like nothing I've ever had before. I went here twice as well haha. And you could tell it must have been a good local spot because as I was eating there I noticed a few locals come up and order massive amounts of food to go for family gatherings. The fresh juices were super good and refreshing. Although a bit pricey, I thought it was worth it. This vendor was selling waffles with a selection of toppings and I got the milk chocolate syrup with nuts....Sometimes I think about this waffle and just wish I could have another huhuhuhuh =( Overall, this place is really great to walk around, eat a few things, and shop a bit. I don't think you should leave Amsterdam without coming here at least once. I see someone said they're only open on Sundays...but I don't think that's right, maybe that person meant to say they're closed on Sundays because I went twice in one week and they were open both times. read more

This is a very large open market full of professionals selling what they sell at other markets across Amsterdam : purses, dresses for skinny women, inexplicably cheap toiletries, cell phone and tablet accessories, also for super cheap, bolts of fabric, t-shirts, kids' toys, and just random stuff that might amuse tourists. Pro Tip: This market runs up and down Albert Cuypstraat from west to east. The prepared food stands (fish, bread, french fries, egg rolls, etc.) are heavily concentrated on the east side of the market. So if you're just looking for some quick noms, start off from the east side of the market. It takes 30-45 mins to walk through the whole market, so you'll save a lot of time this way if all you want is food. read more

Visiting the Albert Cuypmarkt was the highlight of my trip to Amsterdam. We visited twice and would have come a third time if it wasn't closed on Sundays. It's a cute street lined with various vendors selling food, accessories, and other random items. Everything is very affordable. I ended up buying a few scarves. However, there was also an abundance of socks, hats, gloves, nuts, cheeses, fresh produce, and much more! Regarding the food, I would highly recommend going to the original stroop wafel stand. The wafel was the perfect texture and had the right amount of caramel. On the second day, I tried another stand that was cheaper but it just wasn't the same. I also suggest going to the stand that sells these Turkish crepes/flatbreads that can be filled with spinach, cheese, potatoes, etc. I ordered the spinach one and it was incredibly delicious. The dough was warm and had the perfect crisp yet soft texture. The spinach was marinated with some sort of spicy sauce that complemented the flatbread and added the perfect punch of flavor. In addition, one order was gigantic and only costs 3 euros. Would recommend as a cheap lunch! read more

I think I came at a bad time... De Pijp is a charming neighborhood, but this market was not particularly charming. There weren't too many stalls open when I was here, mostly kitschy souvenir booths and cheap junk. Even the food options weren't too impressive: some locals were shopping at the produce and fresh fish stalls, but for snacks there were mainly just the same cheese stalls you see everywhere. If you're looking for antiques and vintage items, I would recommend the Waterlooplein Market. I found so much awesome stuff there! It may have been worth coming out here to see De Pijp and get a fresh hot stroopwafel from Original Stroopwafels, but I wouldn't expect to find many authentic Dutch treasures here. read more

The only place in Amsterdam where you can find lunch for $3! Definitely touristy, and definitely worth a visit if you are visiting Amsterdam! You can find a lot of cheap items and food as well. I'd recommend coming a day other than Saturday if you can, as it gets pretty busy and it was difficult to walk around without being constantly bumped into. The market is not open on Sunday's. I bought a spicy chicken sandwich at one of the chicken vendors (I can't remember the name) :( but it was really great! 100% recommend PS also free samples of some items as you're walking through, definitely take advantage of that tapenade read more

Great outdoor market that has tons of craft products, souvenirs and food stands. It kind of reminds me of the swap-meet in Oahu because you see almost the same souvenirs at each stand but at varying prices. The souvenirs are cheaper than the ones you'd find at a store. Stayed here for 4 days in the beginning of October. As a lover of farmers market and street food it was my heaven! From cheese galore to herrings, flowers, clothing, stroopwaffle, baked foods, lumpia and much more. The stalls are also backed up by a row of cafes, restaurants and pubs. Walking from top to end with stops will only take about 30 to 40 mins unless you're me and you need to look at everything Rain or no rain definitely a good visit! read more

This market was the highlight of our trip! The food in Europe itself is outrageous compared to the US dollar so this was a bargain. There were so many options to choose from but of course we tried to poffertjes which was small pancakes of heaven :) there's also a food stand that sold rotisserie chicken with many different sauces which paired well with it. I wish we had more time to try all of the stands but I would rather eat from the market daily than to eat at a sit down restaurant. read more

It's a Monday and even though most other shops are closed, Albert Cuyp is there for you, frites, stroopwafels and all. Founded about 100 years ago the Albert Cuyp market has been a major destination for tourists and locals alike. That's why I like it. It's a general market that sells everything from luminous wigs, humongous freshly made stroopwafels, vegetables, fish, meat and jeans that wouldn't look out of place in the more salubrious windows of the red light district. When I lived in Amsterdam I was fortunate enough to do most of my grocery shopping here and therefor avoid the palaces of hell that are Albert Hein supermarkets. Food here is good and plentiful and as is so important to so many Dutch people it is also fresh and great value. Many of the independent store that line the street operate market stalls and because of this you get a multi-layered shopping experience. Explore it a little and who knows what you might find. On my last trip there we were fortunate enough to come across a painting of a ginger Jesus on velvet. My younger sister was offered the opportunity to add a bag made from a dead skunk (the head was the flap and the clasp was on the nose) however being of the less-adventurous fashion ilk she declined and tried not to throw up the herring that I had made her eat. It's part of the experience you see. You can pretty much get a taste of most aspects of Dutch culture at the Alber Cuyp: cheese, slippers shaped like clogs, over-cooked mashed vegetables and a million ways of putting sugar into your body. It has an atmosphere like no other market I have ever been to and when I walk through the local supermarkets in Copenhagen where i now live I miss the buzz and the pushing and the smell. I don't miss that ginger Jesus painted onto black velvet with his flock of sheep though. He's on the wall in my kitchen. read more

Do you want to see the most famous most longest and the most cultural street market of Amsterdam? Pass by this wonderfull market in Amsterdam Zuid near the Heineken Museum. It's fantastic Lot's of culture and many nice things to buy. Next to all those market stalls there are also many shops and restaurants in the area and so the is for everyone something around this market. You can easily come by tram bus or even biking! If you come to Amsterdam the Albert Cuypmarket is also a nice place to spend some hours. Don't forget that at the market it's easier to pay in cash than with credit cards! read more

On our recent trip to Amsterdam we were lucky enough to be staying in a flat right above this market. It was a delight to see them setting up every morning and take it down every evening (except Sunday when it is closed). This market has everything from fresh produce, to prepared foods, to purses, to clothes, to toothpaste, deodorant, etc., etc. This is a one-stop shop market for sure. I never got tired of walking the length of this market and it seemed as though I discovered something new every time. We sampled much of the food in the market and were never disappointed by its quality or taste and eating at the market is a lot cheaper than eating at a café in Amsterdam. De Albert Cuypmarkt is a popular market in Amsterdam where even people outside of Amsterdam come to visit this market! Even though I live very close by it, I must say that I must come back here more often, because of the following reasons: - Poffertjes (small pancakes) are oh so fresh and GOOD. - Vegetables and fruit are cheaper than the average supermarket - Fresh fish and seafood for a reasonable price - Great stroopwafels! - Cheap charging cables for your iPhone or other smartphones (but keep in mind that these are not the originals one) - Cheap clothes/shoes - unfortunately I do not know how good these qualities are of these clothes/shoes due to the fact they are very cheap - Great Greek dipping sauce which you can buy - Other great things like: cheese, churious, fries, fresh orange juice So when you are in Amsterdam, just take a walk through the Albert Cuypmarkt I must say to see it yourself! read more

Nice outdoor market. It's a very long market, so be prepared for a true feast for the eyes. The prices here are quite good as well, which is nice considering that it is a tourist destination. You can get clothing and accessories, groceries, food, flowers, and more at Albert Cuyp. Pretty cool market with a lot of stuff going on. It's located in an area with a lot of restaurants, and if you walk a few blocks past the market, you can stroll along the Amstel River which is nice. Anyways, they literally have everything at this market. Seriously, everything. Food, cheap clothing/bags etc is what you would expect at your typical street market. Which they have. But they also have stands that sell shampoo, conditioner, that kind of stuff which I thought was interesting. Anyways, there's a large variety of everything and you're bound to find something that suits your tastes whether that be a fruit juice on a hot summer day or some trinket as a souvenir. I was sent here since I wanted to try some typical Dutch cuisine--I got my herring and stroopwafels here. tldr; you can literally find anything that you're looking for, definitely worth a walk to at least experience the atmosphere read more
