The cashier quickly greeted us and told us a quick rundown about what they had, and where to order. There was so much food to pick from and it was hard to pick just one meal. I ended up ordering half a chicken with mashed potatoes and a potato salad. My husband ended up ordering three crunchy brisket tacos. We sat down and people kept trickling in. Our food didn't take too long and a different employee dropped it off. She was also very friendly and attentive. My chicken was delicious and HUGE. I couldn't finish it, so I had to take it on home. The sides are small, but they also accompanied my dish with a bread roll, some barbecue sauce, and a jalapeño with onions. My husband loved his brisket tacos and loved them even more after he poured some bbq sauce on top. They are also a market so they sell a lot of goods, fresh meat, and dairy. It's located in an ancient gas station/auto repair building and they haven't done anything to fix it up. But it absolutely fits with the food they serve. BBQ ain't alta cucina and in some ways the more rude the setting, the more appropriate it is. At any rate, they played good music--CCR, Fleetwood Mac, America, Dion and the Belmonts, etc. Bottom line, as long as joints as good as Pitforks and Smokerings and The Shack are open in the Lubbock area, I don't see any reason to be bothering with the lines and lack of seating at Evie Mae's.
