Daytons changed the front CV joints and axels on my old Subaru. Found out recently from another shop that the axels they replaced were the incorrect lengths! This cost me a lot $$ to get this fixed much later on. I would not recommend you take your Subaru here at they do not understand how to fix them and all the subtle technical issues that caused me trouble later down the road. read more

I didn't have a good experience with Dayton. Back in 2007 they charged me $700 to rebuild my carburetor (GM G30 van) and gave me a large list of expensive ($4000) repairs that they claimed needed to be performed. 2 years later I have still not had the repairs made they recommended and the vehicle is still running fine. I felt like I was ripped off!. The price kept on changing too. If you need work done on your vehicle, I highly recommend you take it to Paul or Vince at Lozono Auto Repair on El Camino Real in Sunnyvale. read more

This is basically the best auto place ever. An absolute MUST if you drive a ford, but great for any car really. It's a small independent shop and I feel great about giving them my business. They are friendly, fun, and honest honest honest. So I dont know a ton about cars so when an auto place tells me I need something or tells me the cost, first thing I do is call my dad to verify that I'm not getting ripped off. Dad has confirmed that Dayton has been nothing but honest with me since the get go 3 years ago. PLUS - they will drive you to work and come pick you up. It's easy to get an appointment. They keep great records of your service and keep you on track with your maintenance. You really cannot beat this place. read more

I used to go to the Toyota Dealer on 1st street until they closed down recently. I was calling around to see where to take my car in for it's servicing. The Toyota Dealer on El Camino in Sunnyvale was extremely rude to me on the phone and just pissed me off. Then i called Dayton Automotive and it was a breath of fresh air! Very welcoming and polite over the phone! Everybody at Dayton Automotive was extremely nice and helpful! I went in this morning to get my car serviced. They offered to drive me home and then pick me up when my car was ready to go which was awesome!! My car is running much smoother and they suggested i get my tires replaced soon so i hope to go through Dayton for those replacements. They're Great! Expensive is sometimes justified. But not when it's coupled with fuzzy billing, luke-warm service and absolutely standard service. On my first visit there I was charged just $5 under the pre-authorized $500 charges I had liberally stated when leaving the car (and revised from the low $300 of their original estimate...). Coincidence? Maybe, but to me it looked like they had just padded it to the max. Incidentally, labor wasn't detailed. Was so disgruntled that I double-checked previous bills from other shops; and even called around. Dayton charged me (for this periodic and predictable maintenance) well over 50% anyone else... They won't see me again - I like to trust my mechanics. I miss D&M Motors in Palo Alto (they're just too far away for me now)! read more

This is my automotive service shop of choice. I live over 30 miles away, and will drive there gladly to have them take care of my needs. They have been doing all my work, from brakes, replacing engine, shocks, everything. And when they don't do a specific type of work, they take it to where it gets done, and they stand behind it 100%. Not everybody can be happy all the time, hence there are always a few that don't feel they recieved fair value, but I do, I trust my life to them. read more

I strongly recommend Dayton. A year ago they said my suburu didn't need new brakes. They were right. Then today they told me my rear drum brakes on my caravan were 70% and sent me home even though I told them i was pretty sure they were shot. So I feel it's an honest shop. That's important to me, more than price. But then their prices are good, too. They got my car smogged for me. Even made sure it was driven a bit before hand to get the gunk burned out first. Final thing. The shop is run by the owner. I respect an independent shop and one where the owner works on cars along with the other techs. read more

When it comes to maintaining my car, Dayton gives the most detailed explanations of what is up with it. They not only explain to you verbally, but they also give it to you through computerized print-outs as well. I have a 2003 Land Rover and got tired of getting ripped off by my dealer. Every time I take my car in, they find something else wrong and the bill is usually $1000-$2000. I asked my friend who she uses for auto repair and she told me to take my car to John at Dayton Automotive in Sunnyvale. Since I work in Mountain View and Dayton has a shuttle, I decided to give them a try. Bottom line... they confirmed that the dealership was exaggerating the severity of some of the potential problems and that most of the items in question could be delayed or combined with other, necessary services, to save money. I was in town for a workshop on a rainy Sunday and found that the driver's side window on my 2000 Volvo wouldn't close. I called what I thought was the Volvo dealer, figuring I'd get voice mail, but for some reason (misdial? reassigned number?) got Dayton instead. A real and very pleasant and knowledgeable human answered on a Sunday night and arranged for me to bring my car in the next morning. They fixed my window, kept in constant communication with me, and did it at a fair price. If I were local, I would definitely use them again. read more

We have been using them for years and followed them from their Sunnyvale location to the new Santa Clara location. The service here is not good, I recently wnet for a radiator fault, they charged me 800 for fixing, had the issue resurafce in few months, now they ask me 1600 to fix all the bad work they did. I wouid nit recommend to anyone, they are priced high as well. read more

This is the BEST experience we have ever had with an auto service shop. They just saved us over $2k. We took our Jeep into one of the only "Dodge" dealerships left on Stevens Creek to have it checked out as our 7 year extended warranty was going to run out on May 6th. The Dealer found service items that were under warranty and did these repairs and sent us on our way. Funny because the "in warranty" work they performed had been done by the Sunnyvale Dodge dealer last year, but it was only $100. deductable so we did it again. Also, they told us we needed a "brake fluid" flush and wanted $200 for this simple job, so we took it to Dayton the following day and had them do the brake fluid flush for under $70. At the same time, Dayton did there typical inspection and found the transmission pan gasket and front pump seal were leaking. This is a very expensive service as the labor requires removing the engine. I don't know why the dealer didn't find this problem, but we brought it right back to them and after they rechecked it they agreed that it did indeed have this problem. This repair was under our extended warranty and they did not catch it...( or maybe they wanted to wait until our warranty expired and charge us at a later date?). the point is, the quality of service from Dayton is exceptional and we are so satisfied with their service and will be a loyal customer of theirs for many years to come. We own three Chyrsler/Dodge vehicles and this is a shop we can trust. We had always used "Dealers" thinking that they would do the best job and we know now, we were wrong. read more
