The owner Rand is so cool and I was able to snag a nice Paul Simon record at a great price! He was enjoying music as we walked in, so this man knows good music. Don't forget to check out the upstairs part of the shop, there are some really cute clothing pieces like quilted overalls, sweaters, and the like, as well as some vintage items. If there's anything in particular that you're looking for, Rand can help you find it! Don't be afraid to ask. I wish we had more time in SLC to explore more antique shops, but that just means we have to return again in the near future. I wish Rand nothing but continued good business with his little shop!

Guys I have gone to graywhale since I was like 13 years old because the Sandy location was the…read moreclosest record store, but let me just say this place is really not all that. Okay? Their new stuff isn't bad, but the prices are INSANELY high. The common price for a newly sealed vinyl is about 30 dollars. What! Piss the bed! On another note I'm going to share a very sad story. Today I had some records I was going to bring in to sell, but I knew I was coming a kinda close to closing time so I called beforehand and asked if they'd have time to go through them tonight and they said yes. I told them I had a 20 minute drive and I'd be there soon and they said that would be okay. Sublime. So I drove there with all my stuff in my car and brought it inside and they're all like "we can't take these today, bring them in next week." Hello? I just drove 20 minutes to get here because you told me it was fine! I asked if I could leave the stuff there and they said there was "nothing they could do." Shameful. Graywhale's customer service has never been great but I expected they'd try to do something to make it right. These people do not care about their customers! Go to Randy's Records instead. They have a better selection and better prices!

If collecting bottles or spice containers interest you, there are plenty to choose from. Upstairs were plenty of gorgeous dinnerware pieces, but personally I haven't started my own collection of that yet. Conveniently located close to I-15 in Murray, be sure to come here and spend some time browsing through all the knick knacks. I was out celebrating Independent Bookstore Day, so I made a stop at The Printed Garden. Most of…read morethe independent bookstores in the valley are further north, so it was nice to have something in the south side representing. This one is located in Union Square, a rather geriatric shopping district that appears pretty run down, but is home to several local shops. Pretty it isn't, but it must be doing something right, because there are always folks in the parking lot. And during my visit, several of them were in this store too. Anyway, back to the bookstore. It's modest in size, but had a good amount of books. It strikes me as of a more of a place where you call and talk to the owner to help track down a very specific book than a store that you might just want to browse for fun. The layout and design of the store is slightly lacking in appeal and creativity. That said, not everyone wants to browse through shelves of books or attractive displays. Sometimes you know just what you want and need someone like the folks at The Printed Garden who can locate it for you. And I'll bet they would be happy to do that.
