I wish I could recommend this practice, but unfortunately my experience over the last year and a…read morehalf has been incredibly disappointing. I was originally referred here by my rheumatologist for baseline eye testing before starting Plaquenil. During my first appointment, the younger associate doctor diagnosed me with glaucoma and started me on glaucoma eye drops. After experiencing significant side effects, I returned and was later evaluated by the owner and head doctor of the practice, who informed me that I did not actually have glaucoma. He explained that my eye pressure was normal and that the appearance of my optic nerves was simply due to my anatomy. I understood that mistakes can happen, so I continued trusting the practice with my care. Unfortunately, the problems continued. My first glasses prescription was incorrect, resulting in about $150 spent out of pocket on glasses I ultimately could not use. Later, after being diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, I asked whether binocular vision dysfunction could be contributing to my persistent double vision and vestibular migraines. I was told that I did have binocular vision dysfunction and, as I remember the conversation, the younger associate doctor said, "My bad. I should have checked for that before." Trusting that we had finally identified the problem, I again paid out of pocket for new lenses in two pairs of glasses. Those prescriptions also failed to resolve my vision problems. Along the way, there were multiple unnecessary trips to the office, including driving there after being told my glasses had arrived only to learn my order paperwork had been placed in the wrong stack. The reimbursement process has also been frustrating. I have paid $196 out of pocket for the most recent lenses. I was later told I would be reimbursed $133. When I asked why the reimbursement did not match what I had actually paid, I was told, "Well, he hasn't even written it just yet, soooo." That conversation was over a week ago. When I called again, I was told the check still had not been written. What has concerned me even more is my inability to obtain my own medical records. I have completed the required records request paperwork twice, emailed, called, and followed every instruction I was given. I am still trying to obtain the physician notes needed for another provider to continue my care without repeating unnecessary testing. At this point, the money is honestly no longer my biggest concern. The real cost has been the time. Time away from work. Time driving back and forth. Time waiting on glasses that never solved the problem. Time spent trying to obtain records that legally belong to me. Living with complex chronic illnesses already requires an enormous amount of time spent in medical offices. This situation became one more unnecessary obstacle that could have been resolved through communication and follow-through. I don't expect healthcare providers to be perfect. I do expect honest communication, accountability when mistakes occur, timely access to my own medical records, and a genuine effort to resolve problems fairly. I truly hoped this could be resolved privately. I submitted a formal written letter and continued trying to work directly with the practice before ever considering sharing my experience publicly. Unfortunately, after many months, I felt I had exhausted every reasonable avenue available to me. This review is not intended to encourage harassment or personal attacks against anyone at the practice. It is simply an honest account of my experience so that other patients can make informed decisions and so that anyone going through something similar knows they are not alone.
