Old style Ace Hardware with knowledgeable and friendly staff…read more Been going here for over 40 years or more so it seems, used to come here for anti-fouling paint for Stauter boat with Grandaddy as a kid. I have been redoing the bathroom on Lil Pugs side of house and had a leaking faucet, replaced cartridges and still leaks. Made the trip to Wigman's and talked with the fella about it, he schooled me on spring/seal behind cartridges. He set me up with what I needed and instructions on how to install, a simple procedure I am sure everyone knows but me (I am more auto repair than home repair). Followed his steps and leak gone in less than 10 minutes, no telling what drama and expense he saved me. Every trip here is the same, it starts with a "what can I do to help" and ends with a reasonably priced purchase of ONLY what I need, and tips and pointers on how to do it. They didn't have the handle I needed but it is an older and unusual item, (who breaks a shower handle?) and they do often have those type items. If you need a REAL hardware store, you can't beat Wigman's. Prices are in line with big box, help yourself 'cause employee is former fry cook at local burger joint stores. Support this local business as they will offer you help and knowledge, something people seem to have lost a value in.

My advice to anyone, especially a woman, is if you go here please be aware of your surroundings. This is why I won't give this place all 5 stars, the service was great, but there are safety concerns. He warned me that I would have to order them as soon as possible once in Alabama, because, like everything, it would be delayed due to supply chain problems. It only took a month to order them and get them here, but by the 4th week we were swimming in dirty laundry. I sent Tom an email and told him this, and he squeezed me in for a faster delivery and installation. Not only was Tom professional and incredibly helpful, talking to me before I'd even shown up here in Alabama, but he was super helpful even after the sale, helping my wife pick out the right appliances for future purchases. All of this was sight unseen. I've never met Tom in person, and we've not even been to the store yet. Tom did all of this through a very lengthy, very friendly email exchange. I'm so thankful for Tom, because in a place where it's hard to even get a plumber or HVAC tech to come out, Tom hooked us up with some very hard-to-find appliances surprisingly quickly. He was also very funny, and very personable, cracking jokes and making a very tough move easier before we'd even gotten here. I just can't thank Tom and Chavis enough. You have a life-long customer in me.

I had one of their employees sell me a defective propane tank a few years ago and would not take it back. The guy who sold it to me was some redneck smart ass late 20s early 30s looking clown with a baseball hat on his head and a bad attitude. He told me I would have to take it to Blossman gas on Schillinger Road. I called Blossman and explained the situation to them to which they said "I don't know why he would tell you to bring it to us as we can't fix it...all we can do is sell you another propane tank!" Oh well, Dawes Hardware can kiss my business goodbye! If they don't want to fix a defective product that they SOLD me then I'll just take my business elsewhere. I've had a few issues before with some of their younger staff members but I let that go. However, this episode was the final straw, I won't be back. Home Depot and Lowe's might have their faults but if they sell you something defective, they at least take it back, no questions asked. read more

My timeline was very precise on when I'd need that mower delivered and they tried to cancel for a whole week. He was extremely helpful and made the process extremely easy. He called and updated every step of the way. There was a significant wait time due to delays related to COVID but this was expected. The refrigerator actually arrived sooner than anticipated and the men who arrived to deliver and set up the refrigerator were amazing! They called beforehand to ensure we had power (Hurricane Zeta) and showed up in a timely fashion for the delivery/installation. They were very careful navigating the refrigerator through the house and handled the installation with great care. I was extremely impressed at the level of professionalism we experienced using Mobile Appliance. Now that everything is up and running, I have peace of mind that I am in good hands! I honestly cannot recommend them enough. PS - The showroom is very nice and actually gave my wife and I some ideas for future projects. Do yourself a favor and go see what they have to offer!

And when the repairman came, he told us the fan was broke and the door was bent. He came back a week later to fix the fan and physically push the door frame back in. However, he said it will eventually stop working because it is too damaged. I spent $700+ on a fridge that is basically useless because it will eventually stop working. Yes, they can sell inventory that is damaged, like having dents. But, the item still has to work. I'm going to request my money back or a replacement (new) at their expense. I wanted to give others a heads up. IF you buy something from these people, make certain it actually works.
