While the clubhouse is nice, the burgers good, and the staff friendly, the course itself is at best a raggedy, neglected goat ranch. So it's a 'good value' only in the sense that you're not paying much for a crummy course. Fairways are mainly low-cut weeds and crabgrass, while the greens are low-cut dead weeds and lumpy, hardpacked dirt and sand. The course is in the hood, and the sound of not-too-distant gunfire not uncommon. If you're intent on going, watch yourself and don't leave valuables in your car. If you have a carry permit, carry. Riverside is bordered on the east by a noisy expressway, on the north by a gravel pit, and the water Tony mentions to the west is not the Mississippi River, but McKellar Lake - the smelly, highly polluted, garbage-filled Memphis industrial harbor. There are prehistoric remnants of cart paths between #1 and #2, between #4 and #5, and between #5 and #6. The actual course layout, while short, makes a primitive but fun track with many deep ravines, hills, thick woods, overgrown areas, and OB to the right on 7 of the 9 holes. Most holes are par 4, with one par 3 and one par 5. Also, plenty (as in plenty) of snakes, so don't go poking around in the rough or down in the ravines - even though you see brand new golf balls down there. Insects of every description (mainly mosquitos, flies, gnats, ticks) are plentiful. In short, this course and it's ancient layout could be a gem if the city spent some money on it, maintained it, and improved security. Don't mean to be overly-critical, but out-of-towners and other neophytes need to know what they're getting into. If you're looking for a decent municipal course in Memphis, go to Overton Park GC on Poplar Ave or Galloway GC on Walnut Grove Rd. And watch yourself.

A quick review of the course is it's a little hilly. There is no sand or water. The first 6 greens seem to be a Bermuda hybrid which makes it a little difficult to putt. And there isn't a cart path. So don't let these things surprise you. Another neat feature of this course is they have foot golf. Three days a week they close the golf course for soccer golf. It's 18 holes and you actually kick soccer balls from a tee box into 50 gallon cans they have sunk into the ground. Nice alternative for the younger crowd who don't want to play golf. This really is a great option for a quick round of golf. Make sure you check with the course for tee times before you go. It's regular golf 4 days and foot golf the other three. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. Have fun and hit them straight.

He and his buddies had fun simply because it is cheap and a pretty simple course. He said he will go back just to improve upon his golf skills. It is by no means an excellent course, nor should it be looked to as such. He claims that its a great way to get practice, and much more fun than the driving range. It's clean, but does need some work. There are a lot of patches that are shaded and have no grass, which from what I understand is a big no no when it comes to the rule book of golf- but what are you expecting? No, Tiger Woods prolly wouldn't be caught dead here- but it seems like a cheap, fun and close way to get your golf on in Memphis.

Some of the greens are nearly dead. Bare dirt instead of a nice grass surface on many greens. Several tee boxes were in bad shape as well. Fairways were good. A few bunkers were needing attention. I always gave this course 5 stars but due to the poor greens conditions I had to go lower. I do hope they are able to recover the greens soon. Until then I'll be looking for another place to play.

Sand bunker need a bit of attention with grass and weeds sometimes growing. Course is layed out well but if you hit into the rough you most likely lose a ball so don't use expensive golf balls if you are a weekend golfer. Lots of trees on fairways so again if you do not hit into the fairway the trees are going to play paddleball with your golf ball. Quite a bit of water on this course so beware. For the fee is worth playing this course. They have a driving range and putting green just before the first hole which is great for a warm up prior to playing. All the associates have been great!

I have played at this course many times but today, Sunday, March 22nd was quite possibly the worst…read moreexperience I have ever had at this facility. Whoever the Marshall that was on duty needs to be spoken to, and maybe even terminated. We started our round with four walkers in front of us and two walkers behind us and I had purchased two teetimes because I had five people. At at the turn, we stopped at the clubhouse to get some lunch and had to wait for our food to be cooked. While we were eating, the Marshal came in and told us we needed to get back out on the course immediately that this was not a sit down and eat facility, it was a grab and go. We left without arguing, but when I looked at my watch, I realized we had only been on the course for two hours, and when we got to the 10th T box, the walkers were still in the middle of the fairway. We ended up finishing our 18 hole round exactly at the four hour mark while following two sets of walkers. His attitude during the turn set a very poor example for my two boys that were golfing with me. If you're going to serve cook to order food, then the Marshall needs to take a chill pill. That is the only reason for the two star review today. The course is beautiful, the facilities are great, and normally I have an exceptional experience with all of the staff, but whoever was working today was horrible.

the course isnt bad, a lot of straights, the marshal is the problem, real dick, probably the worst…read moremarshals ive had to deal with, rushed us to start, then got upset cause one of our players was sharing a bag with someone, later when we sat down to eat lunch told us -- and i quote, "Are yall the three?" us: "yeah?" him: "Are yall done or are yall going to hole ten" us: "hole ten" him: "well you dont have time to sit and eat, grab and go" ... what..? like excuse me, we are going fast, got to midpoint a whole 30 minutes early. We had to wait for our food in the first place.. and so we were eating after doing 9 holes, not even holding anyone up, dont try to tell me we are being a nuisance. Either figure out how to say that respectfully or just shut the hell up. Again, the course wasnt bad, game went well, this isnt against The Links' course, but the marshal seems to ruin the whole experience, this comes from my whole group, aswell as someothers i overheard talking about his attitude.
