I will certainly go shop there once I return to California! (Especially if he repairs some o' them Farfisa Compacy Duos, with the F/AR boxes!)

The restoration took 6 months longer than it was supposed to. When it was delivered, it did look fabulous, but it was the worst playing piano I've ever touched. Some notes didn't even sound. He came over to fix it, but after making adjustments, failed to get the piano playable. He told me that was the best he could do and couldn't improve the piano any further. So now I have a $7k piano that can't be played or sold. After a few months of occasionally playing the piano, a new problem has manifested. Some of the reeds are going flat. I've been on a waiting list to get it set up by a wurlitzer specialist and I finally got an appointment. He played the piano and says he can fix it but the reason that some of the reeds are going flat is because they are worn out and need to be replaced. If they were worn out, why weren't they fixed when I paid CVKs $7k dollars to FIX THE PIANO? So now I'm paying another keyboard repairman $1.5k to fix work that CVKs failed to fix. I'm sick over the $8.5k I've spent on this piano and the $7k I gave to CVKs. They strung me along for a year on a money pit and wouldn't stand behind their work. I took a chance on a beautiful piano and put my trust in the wrong business.

I absolutely have to give a big shoutout to Nick Rail Music…read more These guys are fantastic. I've been building a Stratocaster out of parts, and took it in to have the pickguard wired and get a full setup including setting up an unfinished nut. It is extremely hard to find anyone who will touch soldering and wiring. I was prepared to travel a couple hundred miles to get this set up the way I like it, butNick Rail took it on without hesitation. The quality of the work was excellent, and despite the soldering and the nut being complicated, they turned my guitar around in less than a week when nearly all of the other shops in town were quoting me 2-3 weeks. Their pricing for the work was very fair. Couldn't be happier, and if you decide to get crazy and build a guitar, or even need some form of setup or repair, this is the first call I would make. I can't see myself going anywhere else in town now.

So yesterday when I wanted to play La Bamba on my equally venerable guitar, one of the strings popped. So I reluctantly had to find a new source of replacement strings. I'm happy to report that Nick Rail abundantly filled the bill. Nice helpful staff, prices that don't drive you to the internet, and a store filled not just with guitars, but also keyboards, drums, and horns. School band members rent and shop here, too. All In all a good experience. They've been there 40 years, and this was my belated first visit. Does anyone else remember the Bonnie Langley Music Store in downtown Santa Barbara?
