This David's Tea location is in The Glebe and I believe it was the first David's Tea in Ottawa. I like that it has seating both at the front of the shop and at the back of the shop. It doesn't have that many seats, but David's Teas rarely do (at least no locations that I've ever been to). I like that they are much less expensive than places like Starbucks. They also have teas of the day for only $2.10 taxes included (it's the size of a Starbucks Venti). The teas of the day encourage me to try new flavours and I've discovered new favourites this way. I don't frequent DAVIDsTEA all that often. I have noticed that when I do, they tend to be in Ottawa. The first time was at St. Laurent when I was waiting for the zipper on my jacket to be fixed back in November 2015. My latest visit to this location is the second. The funny thing is that I am aware of DAVIDsTEA's line of looseleaf teas and I have a bunch for products from the store. How can that be? Well, I drink tea all the time. I also have astute students at work and friends who know me so well that they gift me items from DAVIDsTEA. My favourite items that are not looseleaf tea are the perfect spoon (it really is), and penguin and seal tea infusers. This store is spacious, deep, and pleasing to the eye. The iced teas of the day immediately greet you. After sampling the lychee bellini and coco colada varieties, I got the former. As expected, there was a whole wall of looseleaf teas in canisters, colour-coded by tea type. It made me happy. I can see this wall being a test for OCD-type personalities. I signed up for Frequent Steeper points. I got both the card and key chain versions. I also learned that you can simply provide your phone number and you're good. You can get a number of tea accessories. I liked the cute tumblers and cups. You can also get tea gift sets, which I am often on the receiving end. They are great. I loved my iced Lychee bellini. It was perfectly refreshing and not too sweet. You get paper straws here. I drank it fast enough that the straw didn't disintegrate. There are two single washrooms at the back of the store. Headed in here on a walk up Bank Street, on a sunny winter afternoon. The store was moderately crowded. The space is airy and clean. The staff are busy and cheeful. It was a bit hard to get service. I almost want to suggest that during busy times they need to go by a number system - but that seems so governmental I'm not sure it's the right suggestion. Also - it's partly the nature of the beast: They take their time with their customers to discuss the merits of given teas, and ensure the customer is happy with their choice. (Staff seemed quite knowledgeable.) Ordered a pot of O Canada. Managed to somehow get a table - there were none to be had when we first walked in - and sat down to get warmed up and enjoy our brew. (It would be nice if they could rework their space a bit to allow for more seating.) All in all, I enjoyed the visit - but if I do return and it's the least bit busy, I'll turn around and head to Starbucks kitty-corner to them for a hot chocolate or similar. Not worth the wait. Hint: Stop in and get their tea booklet. Study it at home, and then go back with some ideas in mind about what you wish to try. If you live or work in the area, and love tea, could be interesting to work your way through all of the teas.... Would I return: Yes, if I'm in the area. Ottawa's first location of David's Tea has come! Be sure you go in and support this truly unique place where you need not be intimidated or a tea master to enjoy the full experience. Upon entering the shop, a tea girl bolted to the front door to dole out a free sample of the tea of the day- a great idea! It was yummy but not what i was looking for a full cup of. No big deal! "I'm feeling something fruity" was all I needed to say before someone at the counter was pulling down canister after canister of delightfully labeled teas. She explained them; I smelled them. The selection is not as expansive as the Queen West location I frequent in Toronto but maybe that's just because the shelves are bigger, leaving more empty space. I'm sure Ottawa will catch up. Needless to say, I found some loving in a raspberry tea with a cute name. The staff were a bit confused when I said I wanted to drink it there. There are a few scattered tables so it is well within my rights to do so. They could easily fit a couple more tables in there so more can sit enjoy the team, their call. For the ceramic mug they give you: just let the tea steep, take off the lid, take out the tea strainer thingy, rest it upright on the lid, drink. Easy peasy! Noted: The bathrooms are very night and are made with David's Tea in mind. So maybe you'll enjoy your tea to go, or maybe you'll get it for there, the point is: make sure you get it. David's tea has just about every variety of tea you could possibly imagine, some of it seems almost ridiculous. I've tried a bunch, one of them even had popcorn in it. They're hit or miss, I find I don't like the chocolate flavors but I adore the fruity ones. Today I had an iced tea called Paradise found, it was so good, it was really fruity and sweet. It's also really reasonably priced in my opinion, $2.63 for an iced tea the size of a grande at Starbucks. The inside is small but bright and airy. The staff really know their tea and if you go in and say what you're in the mood for they'll pull 3 or 4 tins off the shelf for you to smell. If you're a tea drinker I highly recommend this place. read more

This is a standard David's Tea. If you haven't been to one before it's fun - there are so many kinds in every category of tea. They also have plenty of accessories for loose leaf tea, many of which are quite good, but all of which are a little bit expensive. If you pass it daily you can get a "tea of the day" for a dollar if you have a David's travel mug, which would be a good deal if I passed it every day. I buy my loose leaf tea here so that I'll feel too guilty to go out and buy myself tea instead of just making it at home. This store itself is hit-and-miss. It can be totally dead or overflowing with customers and the staff can be friendly and helpful or more interested in getting you out of the store so they can finish their conversation. read more

I like going in this place. They always give me free samples. Always, unlike the one at Bayshore which only does sometimes. . .that whole mall is so classist it's disgusting. It's kind of small though, not a lot of seating area. I wish you could get a pot of tea for 2 there like you can at the Tea Store in the Market. . .or have I been misinformed all these years? Atmosphere is good; staff is nice. I wish they'd bring back Chai Amazonia. It tasted like Cinnabon. read more

I recently visited the shop for the first time and was greeted by a cheery staff who presented me with a sample of their "tea of the day". The store is pristine with a great uncluttered layout. My first David's Tea experience! I had heard about his chain ages ago when I was living in the GTA but somehow never made it to any of their stores. I found out there was one in the Glebe and I happened to be in area, so I popped in to see what all the fuss was about. The teapots, cups, and strainers are on the shelves against a wall of the store, which has modern decor. Across from that are the tons of different teas they carry. I won't go through them all, but they have teas that are for tranquility, energizing, ailments, you name it. I tend to have a sort allergic reaction to more floral teas and those that contain artificial flavoring, so I usually only go for the herbal variety. After eating too much pizza, I decided on a small resealable bag of some kind of detox blend with ginger, and another bag of my favorite, matcha. Since it was my first time, I bought the minimum 50g pouch of each tea to taste. The detox tea said 'natural flavoring', and, if you don't steep for too long, I found it fine to drink without milk or sugar, which I don't usually use for herbal teas, anyway. Matcha is essentially stone ground green tea leaves, and theirs is stamped 'organic'. It cost more than double the detox tea at $19.50 per 50g versus $9. Their teas are generally fairly priced, but I found the matcha here a bit more costly than I expected, even though it's not that much cheaper anywhere else. Regardless, it was pure and delicious, and I can use it in different recipes, including smoothies! Clean, bright, extremely friendly and helpful staff who doesn't mind if you take time choosing your tea, neat refillable canisters and, of course, very good selection of teas and tea utensils. I was quite taken by the idea of David's tea when I first went there. The smells were amazing and the selection seemed interesting. Unfortunately it all seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors. Most of their teas are artificially flavored, which is quite bizzare. More distressingly I've yet to have a good cup of team from any of their products. The tea (what little their is of it produced) is weak, flavourless and flat. I've tried about 8 kinds, so it's not just having a bad batch. I've used way more than normal amounts of it to try and get some results but sadly every cup has been disappointing in some way. Their Chai in particular smells great but never produces anything drinkable. Honestly I would really avoid this store, it's trendy without actually being at all good. read more
