This Valumart is my go to grocery store. It is close to where I live and while not a huge store, has most of the stuff that I am looking for. Always a good selection of produce, baked goods and meats. Also, recently, they upgraded that pesky elevator that used to be out of order all the time! Parking is free for an hour (lot off Cedarvale). The nicety is, you can probably do a lot of errands at once at this location. There are 4 different banks at the corner of Woodbine and Danforth and a variety of other stores as well. They carry a good selection of President's Choice products, including the Premium line. In spring/summer, they have a great garden centre in the parking lot mentioned above. read more

This is your standard bargain grocery store. The deals are good. For transit takers, like myself, the location is awesome! Right beside the Woodbine Subway Station. It's also good for drivers as they have a little parking lots around the back, then you can go into the store through a back entrance instead of w3alking all the way around the block. Bonus. Value-Mart is an east end grocery chain that has, usually, very low prices. Not much to say, it's your typical grocery store but the best part... they deliver :) Free parking for customers out back around the corner from Woodbine subway station. Not the best of grocery stores but it has everything one could possibly need to put a meal together in a pinch. There are always specials going so that's good for the wallet and for picking up those few things to get by. I use it a couple days a week out of convenience but choose elsewhere to do my big bi-weekly shopping. The biggest benefits of this location is the proximity to other conveniences. Three banks just at the corner, steps away, and a very large dollar mart within the block. There is free customer parking as well as Woodbine Stn. being just next door. So one could get some pesky errands done in a short matter of time. read more

Not my closest store but I keep coming back. Yes prices are higher here than other places, but the helpful staff and managers make it all worthwhile. It's clean and conveniently located right at the Woodbine Subway Stn. Great place to shop on the way home. IDK about the meat selection as I don't eat much of that at all,so I can't really tell you. The busker who plays non stop outside this store and the pan handlers who are there constantly have caused me to find another store to shop in. I walk the extra distance to Sobeys. Do you people live on another planet ? Prices are so incredibly high compare with other grocery stores. I Used to get meat from here because was conveniently priced but now I find it NOT fresh at all and a lot of it expired (salami, liver or beef cuts) or close to expiring day (a day or two). EVERY TIME I buy meat from the store and i get home to open the package , it looks good on the outside. Under it, are dark and black bruised. if you cut the meat its all dark inside.I live 5 min from the store and I do admit is convenient but man.. the quality and the pricing makes this place worse and worse. I mention few times this to cashiers and got the cold shoulder. read more

I like this store- it's a great basic go-to store- solid prices, decent selection (I like the compactness- very simple and to the point), always very fast with checking out. It's slightly annoying having to take an elevator from the parking lot, and I hate having to use a loonie for a cart now. Good neighborhood staple. read more

I moved right around the corner from the 24 hour Sobeys a few blocks away but find that I keep coming here to shop. It isn't the cheapest place price wise, but it is reasonable. The staff are helpful. But the meat is fantastic for a chain grocery store. read more

This place is HUGE, and surprisingly so considering its location. Always very clean. A good selection of products. This valumart also has a pharmacy. My only objection to this location is the value. Overall everything seems to be overpriced except the fresh salmon which comparatively to other grocers is very very cheap. Easily accessed from Woodbine subway station. Good place to grab a few essentials on the way out or coming home. read more

This is a solid PC brand grocery store. In some areas their selection can be limited, but there's lots of ways to earn PC points each week. The deli counter offers some pretty good cooked options, but can be pricy. Depending on the staff member, the cold cuts can also be cut up and packaged a little inconveniently as well. The only thing great about this store is the location. In my area there's nothing else. I do not drive so I have to carry. Ever since a Loblaws opened across my building at work I prefer to carry everything, on streetcar and subway for 50 minutes, just to avoid the crappy Valu-Mart. The prices here are Loblaws prices( the name Valu-Mart nice irony), except for the Loblaws promotions, that are very rare here and usually on stuff half gone bad. Variety: they only have a few things, nothing else and all the time, eating the same hummus for a year and a half you kinda get sick of it and never want to touch it again. The produce: you snooze, you loose: half of the stuff is expired or expires in the next 24 hours, if you do not check you end up with it, and good luck returning it there. The staff: management must not be the best, because there are different people at the cash registers all the time, they never smile, God forbid they would catch a draft if they open their mouths, and they seem genuinely retarded, as every time there I have to repeat at least three times that no, I do not want to purchase plastic bags, nor let them throw all my stuff upside down in my own bags(the only time I made the mistake I got blackberries smashed all over everything and on my clothes as I carry the bags on my shoulders). On top of it all, welcome to the neighborhood, as I very rarely not met crazy, drunk, or stinking people, one guy got mad at me because I dared buy too much, no, I was not in the express line and am actually very fast, the least you stay there the better for your metal health... read more

after reading some of the reviews i wonder if these people were paid. the is so expensive it's unbelievable that people pay it. their selection can be limited, heavy of the pc products , ofcourse. the staff are great. but the thing that bugs me is their ventalation system. whenever it had to go in because it was convenient, my cloths would smell like grease. i know it can't just be me! with the prices they charge i'm sure they could afford a better system. an ex customer read more

This a truly mediocre supermarket. The fresh produce is usually tasteless, the selection is pedestrian. The young owners are trying hard, but the store is in serious need of an update. Value mart? I don't think so. read more

Location is great. Very convenient for me as I get off the subway at Woodbine station when I'm coming home from work. It is always very well stocked. I love the discount breads and fruits - 50% off - always something good there. The employees are pretty nice and friendly. They offer to pack my bag most of the time! I'm used to shopping at like Food Basics, Price Chopper, etc. so this place is a bit more expensive than the really discount stores. BUT much cheaper than Metro, Sobeys, Zehrs, etc. In my opinion, it is totally worth it to pay more for the service than what you get at a real discount store. Everyone is so polite, helpful. The lineups are never that long. I've gone at rush hour and I get through the line up in just a couple minutes. Definitely would recommend it! read more

The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and outgoing even at the most difficult of occasions (busy periods, rushes, difficult customers). They have local Ontario grown produce and product information at the ready and offer a good variety of grocery basics. The continuity of the staff over time is a sign of good management and to loyal customers this means familiar faces and a relationships of trust. read more

Generally suits most of my needs quite nicely, and they just expanded their hours too! One caveat: if you buy meat here, cook or freeze it the same day. The best-before dates are no indication of the actual meat freshness; way more times than I would care to admit I have opened meat the day after buying it and found the underside or the inside all brown and smelling bad. read more
