He also added that gold prices weren't good and to wait if I didn't NEED the money. I didn't but asked for some input on what I had. He just shrugged and said, I guess I can. He only went off weight and what I told him the Karats I thought it was. He didn't want to test it or do anything else since he wasn't buying. I thought this was very poor customer service because had he spent a little more time with me, I would have returned but he seemed more bothered than anything to help me at all. Now I know this isn't a deal breaker and its kind of small, but its nice when you are actually welcomed when you walk in the door, I find most places don't even care enough to acknowldedge your there, let alone be able to help you with your problem. They had the right batteries in stock for my watches, then showed me a huge selection of replacement leather bands that I needed, even knew why my Eco Drive watch was no longer charging and were able to repair it right there in house (no wating to send it back to the manufactuer). By the way they were going to do the work right then if I had some time to wait, which usually never happens when I go somewhere no matter if the place is busy or not. I know I am being long winded but its so nice to finally get someone that knows what they are doing and can actually help me, when you are relocating 3000 miles from one coast to the other you end of doing a lot of buisness transactions. Many places stood out but not for the reasons you want. Ray's made an impression on me, and family owned places like this are becoming harder and harder to find, with so many people choosing cheap prices in exchange for absouletly the worst or non exsitent customer service, forget about quality. So when the time came to make our first (modest) purchase of gold bullion, naturally we went to Mom's Silver Shop. And he wasn't exaggerating. By far a superior shop to any others in the area (and likely the entire Sacramento Valley and beyond). I believe either my husband or I have visited every shop in the tri-county area and this one tops them all. Most of our bullion purchases were online (APMEX, etc.) because of the scarcity of sufficiently stocked "brick and mortar" venues for purchasing precious metals. Until we found Mom's Silver Shop. This is not one of those shops where there's a meager handful of random coins/bars in one or two dusty showcases. "Mom" has an awesome selection (so much so that we walked out with more than we originally came to buy. :) The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable, as were their 3 adorable little dogs (mini dachshunds, I think) who gave us a very warm and friendly greeting as we were buzzed in. Even my husband, who doesn't care much for small dogs, was charmed and couldn't resist bending down and getting some love from these guys. Mom's Silver Shop's prices are very competitive, and their selection of gold, silver, and copper was a veritable buffet of bullion and bars! No pushy salespeople here! Nor did they hover (at least not in any obtrusive way). "Mom" (Joyce) and John were very engaging and my husband and I both struck up conversations. Joyce pointed out items that she thought we'd be interested in -- but didn't try to push a sale. (Probably didn't have to with us -- I was like a kid in a candy store.) Our visit was more like visiting family than a business. We walked out with a bag of new treasures, and we look forward to our next visit. Husband's birthday is coming up so Mom's Silver Shop is definitely on the top of my list of stops on my birthday shopping run. If you collect (or invest) in gold/silver, etc., and if you haven't paid Mom's Silver Shop a visit then you're missing out.
