From our very first meeting, John took the time to listen to my ideas and concerns, and shape them into a "do-able" project. He also was prepared to give us a ballpark estimate of how much our work would run, which was extremely helpful in managing our expectations. We have completed the planning phase, and are ready to dive into the project in a few weeks. Despite the fact that I have been working out of town for much of the past year, the staff has never missed a beat, providing me with numerous e-mails, texts, and Hangouts to ensure I was a part of the planning process and constantly kept part of the proc. There was never a time when I felt "out of the loop", even though we worked long distance for much of the time. A renovation project of this size can be intimidating. But the professionals at J Francis have made us feel at ease throughout every step of the planning process. I would wholeheartedly recommend J Francis for any renovation project you may be planning. UPDATE: The renovation is complete...and looks fantastic! Hats off to Kortney and Dave, who were in constant communication with us throughout the project. As usual with a project of this magnitude, there were a few "surprises" that popped up (not their fault), but they were on top of everything and kept the project on schedule. After calling a few places, they all felt that a single window wasn't worth their time so I used Yelp's feature to send a standard request template to multiple companies at once, and Steve with HHI responded immediately. His schedule was about two weeks out which was no problem for us since the issue didn't involve cold air seeping into the house. He was finished in less than one hour and very reasonably priced. We spent a few minutes discussing what other services he offers and I'll 100% be asking him to take on our future needs.

In fact, in my review I stated that all I asked for was the curtesy to let me know you'd decided you were no longer interested in the job. I left a voicemail, asking if you'd decided not to do it. It would not have required you to drop anything to take less than 30 seconds to reply to the text I had sent with the photos and say you were no longer interested. That would have demonstrated a level of professionalism and common courtesy that should be a cornerstone of your business. Instead, you decide to respond to this review three years later with a passive-aggressive reply that only serves to make you look incredibly unprofessional. No part of my review was unreasonable, and the resolution that I said I hoped for was completely fair. Sending a text message would not have endangered your life or your health, but it would have gone a long way to showing that you're a decent person who cares about doing right by people, even when you aren't going to take the job.

The property management company came in and took these pics, and told us it was absolutely unacceptable and we're going to have to pay for a real professional to do it. We're still waiting for him to give us back a refund or at least a partial refund. The reason I even gave him a good review to begin with is because he gave us a stupidly low price for painting - $300 for 3 floors. I ended up helping him midway and correcting a lot of his errors because he thought it would take him 1 day (LOL - I told him he's out of his mind, it ended up taking 3 full days, with me helping 10 hours). It's obvious he's a slop shoddy handyman at best, with no painting knowledge or experience. He even had to call his friend for painting advice. Because of the steal of a price, we hired him to install a sliding door and put a couple hooks in the ceiling (to hang a swing chair and some planters). This took him all of 45 minutes and he had the audacity to charge us $300! I said absolutely not, I'll give you $150 (which is already a lot, but I figured it would cover some of the mis-pricing of last time). He accepted this as fair since I brought up the discrepancy in his price per hour since last time. Since the last paint job mentioned at the beginning of this review, he's blocked my number (after telling me he'd give me a $75 refund for the poor job we had to pay a real professional to re-do). I feel bad being so disparaging but the truth hurts and if I can save someone else from experiencing this catastrophe of events, I will. Find someone else.

The job was done quickly too. Then, we had had them install engineered flooring in a living room, two bedrooms, and a hallway. As I write this, they are working on the staircase to the upstairs, installing the same flooring there as well. As often happens, there was a mix up in the delivery from the store and there was not enough of the stair nose. James was flexible and was able to come back as soon as the correct pieces were delivered. I appreciate that he takes the time to explain what he is doing as well. I recommend James and his crew for similar projects.

He glued wood pieces on my floor and didn't listen to our previous conversation of needing to match the kitchen floor up with the extra in the basement. To add to that I saw one of his "crew" leave with my ladder on my garage camera (came in with no ladder and left with my $100 ladder) I did not confront this until I arrived in person because i was trying to give the benefit of the doubt. It was in my sunroom with all other belongings so they went in there when they should've been no where near there without my permission. James told me he would ask said worker and then radio silence after that. They left a huge mess and was in my floor refinishers way even though I gave clear instructions not to be there at that time (construction dust and floor refinishing don't mix) I'm still mad at myself for being conned. Please don't be desperate for a contractor like I was and check license and bonding prior to your investment and home being worked on.
