My car is my baby…read more I needed to graduate to a mechanic once my warranty period passed. So, of course I asked my man. His recommendation? Automotive Technicians. Their reputation is stellar. These guys are the guys that take care of a lot of state government vehicles. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. No, there aren't many reviews. But they're all 5 stars. And w my man coming here professionally & personally for so many years, I didn't think twice. He introduced me to Henry & Larry. They're extremely knowledgable & personable. They've now worked on my baby twice. I dropped her off & picked her up either the same day or on the next day, depending on what was being done. They were professional & thorough. Any questions I had were answered. Any concerns I had were addressed & handled. Auto Tech doesn't advertise. It's all word of mouth. The best. 5 stars.

You often hear that a good, honest mechanic is hard to find. You will find them at Automotive…read moreTechnicians, as the solely five-star ratings here and on Google attest. While there have been only a few reviewers on both sites, I believe this is largely because the shop does not do any marketing of its fine work. Like so many great businesses, the shop seems to rely on repeat patronage and word-of-mouth advertising. I actually learned of the shop through my co-worker who learned of it through his aunt, a long-time customer. I am now telling everybody I know. The shop is small and low-key, but the mechanics are deeply experienced, straight-forward in how they do business and, best of all, honest. After so many years of getting assessments from places like Midas and Quality Tune-up, and wondering if the assessments and recommendations were real or an unnecessary up-sell, I feel like I've hit upon a hidden treasure. Since I've discovered them, Automotive Technicians has done everything from minor repairs such as replacing my radiator cap and brake work to more major scheduled maintenance such as replacing my timing belt and water pump. They do an excellent job, do it quickly (my brakes, timing belt, water pump and alternator belt were replaced in one day) and charge a fair price. Best of all, they provide peace of mind - which is what you get when you know you are getting honest assessments and quotes. Full disclosure, I was a classmate of the master mechanic, Henry Lau, in Kindergarten and in high school. But I sense that he treats everybody genuinely, regardless of whether or not you may have a personal history/ connection with him--which you will undoubtedly develop after your first visit and become their next loyal customer.

I brought it here and Tomas was more than helpful to explain about common transmission issues and my options before looking at it. Honestly one of the nicest people at a shop I've met in the Bay Area especially Oakland. After finding the problem and suggesting a rebuild I decided to just get a new car rather then spend on a whole rebuild. He was not pressuring me or rude after declining the work and you don't see that often most people just want to get over and make their money. As soon as I get a new car I will be going here more often for other work.

Hugo is an all around great guy, best rate around ($100/hr), not what you'd think…read more.. I normally go to Precision Auto Care in San Leandro, but I just bought a 20 year old used car and didn't need the premium pricing for maintenance, considering I don't want to put in too much into a car that is in its last years. So I went to look at 40 shops for the best rated but cheapest repair shop, and I was pretty happy with Meekland Auto Repair. First, I brought my car to test Hugo out and see if he matched on what the Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) reported; to see if he was able to catch the things that he should've, and didn't fabricate more merely to pad on costs. He was able to reassure me on some aspects that weren't as concerning as initially believed (confirmed later by another mechanic/repair-shop), and was able to confirm issues that were prevalent in the PPI; proving his capability. Inspection was his normal rate of $100 for the hour. I ended up getting a transmission tune-up (never done in the 20 years 110k; he even observed and proved his knowledge in observing the factory sealant color for the transmission) by him, and it's held up and given no issues since then (the last 7 months). And he did it for cheaper than other shops -- $280 for the transmission tune-up. He's also a really cool, laidback guy. What's really handy is that he basically lives on the property, like he's very available since he's right there; accepted some cars dropped in after hours. Another positive reason why I chose him before any other place is that he is one of the few places open on Saturdays. But there were a couple of things that made me look elsewhere for my needs. The car's turn signal never returned after turning (a prevalent issue with the model of car), but Hugo wanted to charge $300 just to fix it! It's an annoyance, but not worth that much to keep it from annoying. I looked it up on Youtube (lots of videos; prevalent), and found that it can be done by any novice like myself for a $35 part (it was challenging to get the right part number, I installed a compatible but wrong one and had to get it swapped for correct one) - it seems Hugo wanted to replace the whole steering wheel switch components instead of simply the direct one lever/switch; that's why it was $300. That's how I figured out that if you're looking for a cheap repair shop for cheap fix-it non-premium unofficial patch-it jobs like I was looking for/interested-in, even if it looks like it, Meekland Auto Repair is not the place. He's also not punctual; his posted business hours are more of a suggestion -- when I did come in on Saturday right at open at 10AM, he wasn't open and 3 phone calls weren't able to get to him, and he strolled in at 11. The other 2 times I went, he closes at 6, but kept til 7. This place is also really hard to find...! You see the sign, but there's no obvious repair shop that can be seen from the street; just a building that seems to be a operations center or command center or a place to stage for ice cream vendors. You have to go around the building, down the alley around it, towards the back, to get to Meekland Auto Repair lot; space for only 1 car to go through at a time, cars in various state of repair littered everywhere. I say lot, because there is no roof. Also, he doesn't have space. It's really narrow for him, so if there's more than 3 or 4 cars he's working on, it's really troublesome & your job will take long. And he only has 1 lift, so the amount of time/focus he can give at any given moment is limited. An oil change or PPI/look-over should not take all day! And why was he charging $100 (for the oil change), when I can get it for $35-ish at Walmart?! Again, showing how he opts for the official non-unconventional & cheaper approaches; he insisted on putting really high quality oil, but my car is 20 years old and doesn't need that). And at the end of the day, his paperwork & records is shoddy, and he doesn't take credit cards and I had to Zelle him payment (he claimed the machine is broken). For better (going off of his popularity and effectiveness/good results) or worse, this is the main reason I've moved on from him; it's rather limited, and if even these simple jobs are more troublesome than their worth (and the experience), and if he's not going to give me cheap patch-it job/results (my car is 21 years old, I don't need premium or official manufacturer approved methods), I had to look for a better composed place. But if you're looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable enough guy, the cheapest rate around, but are acceptable in that it also means an also rather cheap organization (hard to fit in with limited slots/capacity, 1 lift, disorganized, time frame not honored, but prices costs & work/jobs are as much as higher end shops [won't consider workarounds, unofficial manufacturer approved methods]), then you will really like/prefer this place!
