Why would you say we've never visited your office, we had been seeing you for almost 2 years, and thought our family had some type of patient-doctor relationship with you. I'm not sure why you would ask for my husband to announce his name-----is that not a HIPAA violation? No other families leaving a review for you have listed their family member's name, it's a matter of privacy. We traveled from our home on the Westside to see you because of a referral from another neurologist. Just please do better at calling back families that have placed their trust in you. At 9:36 AM just over an hour before her appointment, we received a call informing us that the appointment was being canceled because Dr. Girard was no longer accepting patients. At that point, an Uber was already scheduled to pick up my mom because it takes approximately an hour to get to the office. I had also rearranged my own appointments and schedule so I could accompany her to her medical appointment. I immediately told the staff that I needed to cancel the Uber and would call back to reschedule. When I called back, I was then told that Dr. Girard had already retired. My biggest concern is not simply that the doctor retired, but that an established patient with a scheduled follow-up appointment was not notified until less than two hours before the appointment. When I asked why we weren't informed sooner, the only response I received was a brief "sorry." There was no explanation, acknowledgment of the inconvenience, or effort to help with the transition to another neurologist. Medical appointments require planning, especially for older patients who may need transportation and family assistance. Patients deserve timely communication when there are changes to their care or their physician's availability. I understand that doctors retire and circumstances change, but the way this was communicated or rather, not communicated was extremely frustrating and disappointing. A simple phone call ahead of time could have saved my mom and our family a lot of unnecessary stress and inconvenience.

They are very difficult to get on the phone, and they stopped paying their answering service. So any time they didn't pick my calls (most of the time) I was unable to leave a message with anyone. I eventually had to go into the office myself to talk with the staff directly. They referred me to a specialist, told me they would send my clinical notes to that specialist, and then didn't do that. And when I was actually able to reach them on the phone, they said "they don't proactively send clinical notes" - even when they referred me to someone else! Then, they told me they sent the notes, but the destination (USC) never got it, despite multiple attempts. Again, this was the doctor THEY referred me to - and they didn't send my clinical notes without asking, and were unable to send them even when asked. What a nightmare. Avoid.
