I've been trying to get into this POTS Dysautonomia doctor for 3 years but I was told he didn't take my insurance and wouldn't take cash. After 3 years of battling to get my insurance company, when I finally got the insurnace approval his office now told me he is no longer taking new patients. They say his heart is breaking for the hundreds of people who need appointments with him but he is in his 80s and the compassion fatigue he is experiencing from there being so few doctors for so many people suffering from POTS is even harming his own health and he is breaking down. How can I argue with that. It's not his fault. He even tried recruiting new doctors to focus on POTS and hasn't had success. The situation is hopeless. He tried to open a Dysautonomia Clinic and many patients heard about that and hundreds started trying to see him and he used to have a waiting list of over 300 people and his clinic failed to open and he is unable to even maintain a waiting list now at all. Once parked (whew!) getting up to this doctor's pad on the 7th floor was easy. The receptionist, RNs, and PAs were all professional and friendly and assuaged the angst that always accompanies a trip to see a cardiologist. Is my ticker good? Dr David Cannom, the heart doc, knows his business, it's been his life work, and made my reason for seeking his (2nd) opinion a slam-dunk great decision. After the testing and interview, I was told that I was in fabulous health "Exceptional" and that gets a 5-Star if nothing else, haha. I told the doctor that his office wasn't Yelped yet and would he mind if I took a photo. He said sure, asked if he should look professional or smile and I told him "Just tell me I'm in fantastic health" He did and I snapped the photograph. This is a top-notch heart facility and treatment center with excellent care-givers and I felt totally safe while on their watch. And my ticker is good. Of extraordinary note, I effed-up my appointment date by a week yet they still managed to get me seen and diagnosed with no effort. They went out of their way to help me. That's a remarkable act cuz if there's anything I hate, it's driving into LA and having a medical practice work within MY schedule is almost unheard of. When faced with a critical health decision, it really pays to get that second opinion. It might be a hassle but when your body is at stake, it's dumb not to. Use whatever tools are available to read up on the care provider. Before I saw Dr Cannom, I read about him in numerous papers and studies. My son had been to over six cardiologists including the head of cardiology at a major university. It was this last Doctor that suggested my son may have dysautonomia but he didn't know enough about the condition to say more. I looked on on Facebook to see who our POTS friends recommended for a doctor and we decided to see Dr Cannom. Best decision ever, totally worth the 1-2 hour (depending on LA traffic) drive to get there. My son was passing out up to 9 times a week, totally unconscious and we had no way to catch him. He would pass out sitting watching TV, in the car during dinner (with food in his mouth), absolutely everywhere. Thanks to Dr Cannom my son feels better, is more active and now has maybe one incident every 2-3 weeks. What's even more fabulous is he is the kindest, most humble man you will meet. Dr. Cannom is not only a class act, but an incredible cardiologist. I was so lucky to have been referred to him after seeing a handful of cardiologists that didn't know what to do with me. At my first appointment with him, I told him my symptoms and he immediately (and I mean immediately) knew what was wrong with me. He did testing to confirm his diagnosis, which proved to be correct. He also suspected another health issue based on some other symptoms, and after testing for that suspected health issue, I was also properly diagnosed. Before meeting with Dr. Cannom I felt terrible and almost always symptomatic. Now I am on the right regimen of medications that have given me my life back. Without his thorough questioning, exams, testing, and medications, I don't know where I'd be right now. Dr. Cannom truly listens to you. He takes the time to ask questions, listens to your answers and I never feel rushed or dismissed. He is kind, caring, patient, knowledgeable, and very much cares about his patients. I thought I had written this review in Fall if 2016 after my diagnosis and surgery with Dr David Cannom. I didn't so I will now two years after the fact. I liked Dr Cannom before I even met him! My cardiologist (s) referred me to him with such praise that I was already comfortable with him. They were and are 100% right! He is kind, pleasant and thoughtful! Above everything else he treated me with respect and dignity, making sure that I (we) understood every detail of my heart issue. We all, my husband, daughters and I were confident I would have my life back at the end of my surgery day. I did! I liked him two years ago, I love him today! Had a cardiac episode in June 2015.My M.D. referred Dr. Cannom who diagnosed my condition as A-Fib and ordered a strap to monitor if my heart stayed in sinus.That was 30 month ago.They have yet to follow thru.5 office visits ,countless phone calls,hours on hold later(Andrew will not call you back)nothing!! By Far one of the best Dr's I know. He treated my husband for many years of ventricular tachycardia with 11 ablations eventually leading up to a heart transplant. We had the best experience and were taken care of like family! My husband is in great shape today. I also go to him for minor mitral valve prolapse and he is terrific to work with. read more
