I had finished ortho treatment in a different city the year before, and had basically endured almost a year of stress as my previous ortho tried to get my retainer and bite correct. By the time I saw Dr. Pine, I was admittedly a bit exhausted, uncomfortable, and freaked out by dental treatment in general. Dr. Pine and his staff were awesome: they listened to my concerns, followed up with my previous ortho, treated me with respect, and most importantly, the doctor adjusted my removable retainer and got me to a comfortable bite in probably less than 6 weeks. They also fixed my bonded lower retainer which had come loose. I remember everyone I encountered -- from reception to chairside assistants to billing -- being just exceptionally nice. To top it off, it's many years later and I'm in the market for a new retainer since the old one wore out. I e-mailed Dr. Pine from across the country to find out if he had any recommendations, since he's now the only ortho I trust and since I can't exactly fly back to Pennsylvania for appointments. Though he didn't know anyone in my neighborhood personally, he did respond warmly and right away with a couple names he'd gotten from his contacts in the field. True professional, genuine person. Would recommend him to anyone.

Madison, one of SCO's treatment coordinators, and Dr Ray were friendly and thorough in providing information and answering all our questions. Due to some other large expenses in life at that time we had to put this on the backshelf until November 2021 when we were finally able to move forward with a re-evaluation exam. We were able to schedule my braces to go on February 12, 2022 and surgery with Dr Engroff and Tri- County Oral Facial Surgeons on February 24, 2022. Between the November and February appointments, Madison answered all my silly questions as I hadn't really had anyone close to me recently go through braces so there were a lot of them. She answered each one with patience and kindness. February 12th came along and Tina, the Clinical Coordinator, and Dr Ray put on my braces and we were off to the races. I didn't start getting adjustments until mid March as we had to wait for my surgery and some healing from that before we could get started. But once we did, I was averaging coming in every two weeks and every one of SCO's clinical assistants from Keelie to Sammie to Madi to most recently and often Jordin have been an absolute delight to deal with. They have been compassionate and caring in everything they have done. From the front door and being greeted by Dreu to passing Brittany on the way out. Each member of this team cares about each other and their patients. They make you feel like one of the "family". Dr Ray had estimated I'd be in my braces for 14 months. Knowing each situation is unique, one never knows for sure how long you will be with these new friends. For me, this journey is coming to a close two months earlier than planned. My braces are scheduled to come off February 22nd. SCO has been my social outlet over the past year and I will miss these gals more than words can say. My husband Dave and I are very pleased with the results of this past year and would strongly recommend anyone thinking about getting braces to go meet with Madison and Dr Ray to find out your options.

After the initial visit that included x-rays, we were given a plan of action. Part of that plan was an expander ($1600 out of pocket) that she wore for 6 months to prepare for the braces as well as to have certain baby teeth extracted. Well after 3 years of continued visits, they THEN determined that they couldn't give her braces because they've decided that rather than braces she would need oral surgery on her lower jaw AND that they couldn't/wouldn't do it until she was aged 24! What?!! This child that is so self-conscious of her crooked teeth was basically told by this office that she'll just have to deal with it. And, she had quite a few teeth pulled at her regular dentist at the orthodontist request. These extraction visits were traumatic to her. So, we wasted 3 whole years of time/money that could have been used getting her teeth straightened. In addition, we live an hour away from their office. Oh, BTW, we then went to another orthodontist that had her upper braces placed during her second visit. She'll get the lowers in 6 months.

During appointments, I had to ask two different dentists and a dental assistant to stop touching and patting me throughout treatment. It was not a single incidental touch, but continuous unnecessary physical contact on my arm or shoulder, which was highly unusual and felt invasive. A hygienist also used my chest as a resting surface for her instruments, dropping tools onto it repeatedly during cleaning. I found the experience physically uncomfortable and jarring. I continued going there for several years because, to their credit, they eventually noted my discomfort in my chart and the unwanted touching stopped. However, at my last appointment I was 7 minutes late because of an unexpected domestic issue that arose as I was leaving the house. I called ahead to let them know. When I arrived, I was told they could no longer see me as a patient because I was "always" late, which was simply untrue. I had often arrived on time and had also waited 20 to 30 minutes for the office when it was running behind, including one occasion when the wait was closer to 40 minutes. What felt especially unfair was that I was never given any warning about lateness policies before being abruptly dismissed from the practice after arriving for my appointment. There were no prior conversations, notices, or written warnings in their appointment communications. Being refused treatment and permanently dropped as a patient on the spot over being 7 minutes late was disproportionately harsh and humiliating. A basic courtesy conversation or warning beforehand would have made the situation feel far less unnecessarily severe. Overall, I found the practice disrespectful of personal boundaries and needlessly punishing toward me as a longtime patient.
