Switching new to a new mental health provider is very stressful, but they made it a very seamless process. Dr. Samuels is very knowledgeable, he takes the time to listen, and makes you feel acknowledged. I have been using this practice for about a year now and I am very happy. After twelve years of care, I eventually left David Samuels and reported him to the Composite Medical Board of the state of Georgia. I have *not* had a Bipolar episode since I left him, leading me to believe that all the years that I spent with him were a complete waste. Something regarding his personality, or his medical treatment, or perhaps a bit of both, was a trigger for me. He has a severe problem with ethics, as well (hence the report to the Medical Board). Given the reputation of the Board, I wasn't expecting any action to be taken against him, and I was correct. Despite the fact that I had pictures of myself taken on a social outing with him that he invited me to on the weekend outside the office (which amounted to nothing more than a "date" with one of his Bipolar patients, mind you), the Board dismissed the case with no action. Samuels ended up discharging me after twelve years of care simply because I had hurt his feelings. He left me with no doctor and only a month's worth of medications, two of which were controlled substances that no one else would write and that he had gotten me dependent upon. By law, this is a classic case of abandonment. It took me seven months to find a suitable replacement for him. Other doctors would make appointments for me and at the last minute would cancel and either not explain why, or would say I had "too many diagnosis' for them to treat." As if they can determine this from a sheet of paper without even meeting me. The local professionals in the field believed my discharge was *my own fault*. My GP was reluctant to write for those controlled substances because of this. I had to beg every month for them like a pathetic drug addict. The above reviewer is correct. David Samuels has his own pathology. If you are reading this, Dave, you should receive some sort of professional help. You know you retained unprofessional feelings for me for most of the twelve years I was your patient, and as soon as you realized this, you should have referred me to another clinician. I was oblivious to this fact because of my suffering due to the Bipolar symptoms and, surprisingly, it did not dawn on me until I wrote the letter of complaint about you. The preferential treatment I received from you for most of those years was not fair to your other patients. The lack of treatment I received at the end of our journey together was also not fair to me. Your business manager should not be allowed to work in the Mental Health field at all. She is a sadistic tyrant, and you allowed her to verbally torture me. You have no idea how close you were to being sued for that mistake. Perhaps you should get rid of her now. The next person she does that to may not be as understanding as myself. Perhaps the Board saw fit not to act on your irresponsible behavior, but perhaps you will mature enough to ensure this does not happen with another patient. Get some help. read more

I had an appointment today with my mental health provider. I was informed that the clerical staff in Dr. Samuels office, i could not see my provider because I had a no show fee of $100. According to the office they claimed they called me to inform me that my appointment needed to be rescheduled due to my provider changing their schedule. I never got the notification and showed up for my original appointment along with my appointment card as proof. They said I missed the re-scheduled appointment and Dr. Samuel's rule was that no appointment could be made until the $100 no show fee was paid. My protest did nothing even showing them my appointment card. If this is Dr. SAmuel's policy of how you treat people, I am appalled. His office and leadership does not care about people. They are rigid in their policies and only care about the money.! read more

We had two bad experiences with this doctor. I am bipolar and go through a lot of mood swings and have very bad anxiety. The first incident was after I found out I was pregnant and had a miscarriage. And so we decided we would start actually trying for a baby. I initially was planning on not taking any medications during that time because of how strong those meds are and it's my body and didnt want to put anything in it that I didn't feel was safe for my baby too, because sometimes it takes a few weeks before you find out. That being said my anxiety was out the roof, but my mood swings weren't so bad that I felt I needed it. I made my appointment and explained my situation, was there something safe for anxiety or did he have any natural suggestions? I specifically said I didn't want anything for bipolar or chemical imbalance. He prescribed me Latuda, which I did some research and only found that it had not been tested on pregnant women yet. On top of that he knew I had no insurance, and with my goodrx coupon it was like $1400 a month. I am not good at sticking up for myself or speaking out when I didn't feel like that was the right medicine before that appointment was even over, I just said okay and knew I had lost the money for that appointment which I paid for out of pocket....which brings up the second bad experience. 6 months later and completely off any type of any meds, (eventually decided to stop trying for a baby) and just when we were all coming out of quarantine I knew I needed to get back on them. I went through one of the worst depressions I had ever been through. I isolated myself in a little tool shed for 2 weeks and wrote goodbye letters to many family members, and was planning out a suicide, mentally just ready to end my life. I was desperate and my fiance was just as, or more desperate than me to get me help. It was the first time in 3 years of being a patient there that I had my fiance involved in one of our phone appointments, because of what happened at my previous one, I didn't want to get charged for another appointment and not get what I needed or feel afraid to speak up. We asked him what were the last medications I was on before he prescribed me latuda, because after many many years since childhood of trial and error with medicine, that combo worked best and we felt it was the first time in years that our relationship was somewhat normal. He didn't know and had to look it up, and was getting frustrated because we were frustrated of how long it was taking him to get that information since we only get 15 minutes with him, and the fact that he didn't have that information on hand before the appointment. My fiance asked why he wasn't more prepared with that info and if we could cancel the appointment to contact our pharmacist to look back on our records. And it felt like we went from talking to a grown up to a 7 year old having a tantrum. His whole attitude changed and snapped back that we as the patients should have been just as prepared (I dont pay a doctor for me to do their job, that makes no sense to me) and said we can go somewhere else. My fiance chuckled a little and said okay well next time we will just be more prepared. Between the 3 of us we found what I was taking, he wrote a prescription for them and I was unable to make any appointments with him after that. After 3 years of going to the same practice, one time he doesn't like that someone questioned why he didn't have my records and bam denied service. I felt like if he can't handle something that small and knowing someone is off their meds for half a year, and the person dealing with them on a daily basis is just determined to get them back on the only thing that worked before they lose them, then maybe he should have been like a foot doctor or something that doesn't involve mental illnesses as their profession. What if I lived alone and didn't have my fiance's support, and felt like the one person professionally eligible to help me turned their back like that over something so small. It could have pushed me over the edge.....I was even willing to pay for another appointment just to try to work out the misunderstanding, without my fiance there. At the end of the day his ego was more important than the patient's well being. read more
