These people are a scam. THEY Will NOT TAKE MEDICARE. I have RSD and have thus been disabled for over 15 years now. I'm moving to Savannah and they told me they will not see the disabled. Being disabled due to pain, PTSD, Depression and having Aetna insurance is not good for them. It shows that they do not care about the community nor do they care about people the most in need. I have never been told by any doctor that because I am disabled they won't see me. They also refuse to see my wife on the same grounds. It has nothing to do with insurance because I was told by the front desk they take my insurance. Genie the impatient coordinator told me specifically they won't see me because of my disability. I was a patient at Savannah Psychiatry for several years, going into it already having a diagnosis of general anxiety disorder and depression. I had been seeing someone for years before Sav Psych to treat these issues and mine were especially resistant to medication. I suffered for these years to the point that I had contemplated suicide several times. I disclosed this in my appointments, and the Sav physician gave me a series of meds (it's trial and error for this condition), but nothing worked. This younger doctor never suggested I meet with anyone more experienced nor did he consult with anyone else. Appointments are only 15 minutes at Sav Psych, the briefest I've ever encountered. There is no way to do a diligent assessment of a patient's condition in that amount of time, and it was obvious the doctor was not thinking about my case or researching it outside of these appointments. Visibly frustrated (not a great feeling as a patient with these conditions), he convinced me to try a TMS treatment that was brand new in the game and cost $10k out of pocket. The doc felt it was my only chance, save for an inpatient treatment somewhere. Sav Psych had conveniently just purchased the machine, and stood to benefit them in writing prescriptions for it. I did the treatment with no results. The doctor also prescribed me Xanax daily, a medication never meant for that kind of use. It actually exacerbated my anxiety (quelling it in the moment but when it wore off, spiking it higher than before). Horrible withdrawals and dependence come with this drug and that was never explained to me by my doctor beforehand. My doctor also did not ever write an Rx with refills, ensuring that I had to pay for a visit the next month to get my medication. I have moved now and on my first visit to my new psychiatrist, the doctor spent 3 hours talking to me. Each subsequent visit is at least an hour. Within a few tries of other meds, he automatically suggested an MAOI, which is not the norm, but it is within the known arsenal even by laypersons. Doctors use it in hard cases frequently (there are side effects, so not always). Within 6 weeks I was back to my old self, seeing the promise of a new life without the weight that had burdened me for so long. I was also off the Xanax completely in a couple of months at my doc's insistence and my whole-hearted desire to be rid of it. I know that my $10k was wasted, my time and expense with the doctor was wasted, and years of my life were wasted, spent in utter despair. And besides the negligent treatment, the front desk staff is atrocious. I have several friends who shared my experiences with this. Calls are not returned, messages not relayed, and a general lack of empathy is evident. People are calling there when they are at their most desperate, but it does not matter to them. Feeling withdrawals from medication is miserable, and the delay in getting meds was frequent. The doctor I have now has an online portal where you can email him directly, plus a caring staff. The contrast amplifies my anger at how cases are handled at Sav Psych. I have advised anyone whose sought my opinion on doctors not to go to Sav Psych. I really feel that my experience there could have cost me my life. If you have an easier case, it may be fine, but anything that takes a little work and ingenuity is over their heads. To be fair, I only interacted with one doctor and think some of the more seasoned ones could be better. This is the very first Yelp review I have ever written but feel very strongly about their protocol and practices. I hope it helps someone. read more

The initial session was very professional and attentive all my questions and concerns. I left the office feeling comfortable and nowing I would be taken care of. I went to Savannah Psychiatry about 5 years ago. Why am I waiting 5+ years to write a review? Well, today, for the 2nd time in the last year, I received a message for an appointment reminder. I HAVE NOT LIVED IN SAVANNAH, GA FOR OVER 4 YEARS. Despite me asking them to check their records and take me off file last time this happened, this continues to occur. As for when I actually used their services... At the time I was a full time college student with two part-time jobs. I was feeling overwhelmed and depressed. I had been on a very low dose of 5mg of Prozac before, and knew that my body adjusts well to that anti-depressant. I saw a male psychiatrist at their practice (it's been too long for me to remember his name). I asked if I could go back on my low dosage of Prozac, but instead he tried to push me towards a new drug that would not be covered by my FANTASTIC insurance. After pushing back on that, because frankly I didn't have the money to spend copious amounts on a drug that might not work for me, he prescribed me another drug that WAS covered by my insurance, but was new to me. I began taking it, and for 2 months I felt extremely sick to my stomach. Basically, any food I ate went straight through me. I legitimately thought I had some sort of on-going food poisoning, that's how bad it was. I found out later through copious amounts of googling that apparently the drug I was prescribed had a negative reaction with caffeine, and that caffeine should be avoided. I was absolutely baffled that the Doctor didn't think to tell me that, especially knowing I went to school and worked two jobs. After that, I tapered off the medicine, saw the doctor one last time to give him a piece of my mind, and never went back to that practice. read more

Recently I called to make a new patient appointment. My call was returned timely and they were able to see me quickly. Unfortunately, they were not in my network, Humana. I was surprised to find out that they out of network costs were affordable. When I arrived for my appointment, I was seen at my scheduled time. I saw the MD on the first appointment and the process was smooth. I checked in, saw the doctor, checked out, scheduled my follow up appointment and am on my way to feeling better. I contacted Savannah Psychiatry because a friend of mine had a good experience with Dr. Sites. It's sad that their new patient office staff puts off such a bad impression that people wouldn't move forward with treatment there. Because I know someone who has treated there, she has told me her rates (since my health insurance plan doesn't cover mental) and get told a number 3x the amount of what she is paying. Sadly in this day in age, a lot of people need mental health only to be met with this type of attitude and distaste when they try and seek help. Of all of the medical practices that I have encountered, Savannah Psychiatry is one of the most professionally ran. Throughout the past couple of years of being a patient at their practice I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for an appointment (typically I wait even less), and every aspect of the visit is always seamless, from entering the building to exiting. I am under the care of Dr. Sites who has shown to be a highly capable doctor time in and time out, both in regularly maintaining a positive and professional attitude, and in resolving complications when they have arisen. As far as psychiatry goes, I know well that the right psychiatrist and psychiatric practice can make all of the difference. I have benefited tremendously from my decision to choose this practice and Dr. Sites. I highly recommend you give them a chance to see if they can do the same for you. read more

I saw some negative reviews about this place, so I was somewhat apprehensive about making an appointment. I understand if they charge for last minute cancellations and such. Many places do that and need to. I've had only good experiences with the office staff, my doctor, and my therapist. I don't know if things have changed from past reviews but things seem to be working out great. Dr. Cox was not ready to put a stamp of diagnosis on me, she wanted to get to know me..even though I have a history. I could tell she wanted to see things for herself. Krissi the therapist likes to work with people with infertility issues and she is engaging and we've created good rapport. The office staff have always been pleasant and helpful. Better than many I have been to. If I have a question I usually get a call from the doctor that day or next. I am very pleased so far. read more

The girl that works at the front desk is an unprofessional, young girl, that has been rude to me numerous times, and has schedule my appointments at the wrong time. Dr. Sites is not a personal Psychiatrist. He has been just throwing medications a me for the past few months, and I'm not so sure that he isn't on drugs himself. Our meetings are usually less than 20 minutes and all he does is nod when I talk and then write me a new prescription. Don't go to this office unless you have no other choice. I'm 21 and have been seeing doctors for my condition since I was 14, this is by far the worst office that I've been to in three different cities. read more

Terrible. The office staff is incompetent and has a high turnover. They bill you for "missed" appointments that you did not even schedule. The doctors are pill pushers and don't care about the wellbeing of their patients at all. Don't waste your time. read more

My daughter and I had a horrible experience. We were seen by Micheal who is a physician's assistant. He refused to let us speak and would cut us off immediately. We were only allowed to respond with yes or no answeres and only if they were included in his check list from his computer. He told my daughter that because she hit her head 6 years ago she has a high risk of dementia. She is very OCD with severe anxiety disorder! Who says that to someone? He went on to tell her to take a risky medication bc it is better to live a short happy life on medication rather than live a long life on different meds. That is rediculious! He prescribed two medications that if taken together will stop her breathing! The pharmacist brought it to my attention and was shocked that they prescribed the medications together! When I brought this to the dr attention they dismissed it saying the pharmacist is not a doctor. Also, because I complained about it and they wanted to cover their butt they told me they could not treat my daughter bc of her head trauma. I was first told I would be seen by another doctor but they later told me not to come. At this practice, you are not allowed to protest poor judgment in medicine prescriptions nor about the unfair treatment you receive. If you want to be ignored, given a dangerous combination of medication, and then blamed for questioning it, then this is the place for you! read more

Dr. Sites and the office staff are great and go above and beyond for their patients! I've never had any problems scheduling appointments and if I have to leave a voicemail they always get back to me before the end of the day. The office is always clean and a pleasant place to be. My wife was using her antidepressants and anti-anxiety pills to sleep all of the time, leaving me to raise the 3 kids and working 4 jobs in order to solve all of the money problems she was causing, including secretly jacking up credit cards behind my back after we did bankruptcy. I told her I was divorcing her. She disappeared in the family car for 3 days. When she reappeared, I told her I would agree to seek counseling. She chose Cecil Barnes. When we went into the one session, Cecil told me up front that I was to "take her drug use off the table as a marital issue." I was done then and there. At the time, another doctor in his office was prescribing her all of the drugs she wanted. Then there was a two year divorce battle (I had the kids and the house) where she overdosed twice on booze and pills (documented suicide attempts). The third overdose was fatal and ruled an "accident." I tried to stop it all but was told to sit down and shut up. Now she is dead. I would not urinate on Cecil Barnes if he was on fire. read more
