Amazing treatment center! Long standing history and most of the staff are in recovery which is amazing for someone who feels lost and alone.

My stay at Willingway was interesting. Cedric keeps the place afloat. He interacts with patients in a positive manner. Ms. Tye is also an important person at Willingway. Mrs. B the nicest person there was disrespected several times by the same individual yet kept here her composure. They got rid of the guy eventually, but they allowed it to get out of control. Another nurse named Sarah also should be relieved of duty she is not fit to work there nor anywhere else until she learns how to deal with co workers and patients. She is extremely rude and I will keep posting until something happens in regards to her. I will send reporters if I have to she needs to be fired. I am a professional and would never ask for someone to be fired, but she definitely isn't fit to work at Willingway! read more

Worst place EVER! A young male patient committed suicide after some of the patients told the nurses that he was threatening suicide and a nurse who was supposed to be watching him at night, closed his door, sat in a chair and went to sleep. This NEVER made the news. The executives of Willingway came down a day or two after the suicide but the nurses would not allow any of the patients to talk to them. I can only surmise that they were just trying to cover it up. He should have been watched diligently or taken to get help. There are none of the advertised amenities there and it is not a very clean place. The patients are cursed at, treated meanly and lied to. The parents of the patients are lied to daily about their child's well being there. read more

I definitely would not ever recommend this place... I got to say the staff is awesome and was very nice to me my counselor on the other hand I would not recommend him... There was an outbreak of bed bugs and the ceiling is pouring in the dining room where they serve food it is disgusting there's roaches in the kitchen and if you decide to leave they will not let you call nobody they will walk you outside the gate and leave you there!!! Abusive, incredibly neglectful. Still recovering from the 3 1/2 year experience I had there. Deeply demoralizing and isolating.

Sorry this is so long, but it's necessary to be as detailed as possible so you can understand what happened and perhaps save yourself the horrific experience I had. When I arrived at Willingway in 2015, I was seeking treatment for, and immediately started detoxing from, an addiction to two street drugs and alcohol. The doctors, in their infinite wisdom, decided to take me off of my depression medication, completely against my will, at the same time that I was detoxing from hard drugs and alcohol. The results were not only disastrous, but completely predictable. I was 25 at the time and had been battling depression for well over 15 years, hence the necessity of antidepressants. The doctors had what I now believe to be a absolute quack theory, in which it was a good idea to get me off "all substances", including my depression medication, so they could assess whether I actually had depression and therefore needed to be medicated for it. I STRONGLY argued against this. I had been under the care of various psychiatrists and psychologists for over 15 years, all of whom had recommended and prescribed medications for me. Nevertheless, the doctors began to ween me off my depression medication simultaneously as I detoxed from opioids, alcohol and other drugs. By day 5 I was off my depression medication completely, a medication in which the recommended taper time is at least a month. Again, this was against my will, and I requested to receive my medication every day once it was discontinued which I was denied. As the days went on I began to get physical symptoms of withdrawal from the depression medication, including brain zaps, chills, mood swings and, most importantly, drastically increased depression and suicidal thoughts. When I would complain about these things, the doctors would tell me it was opiate withdrawal, despite the fact that opiate withdrawal essentially lasts three days, and by this point I was well past that. My depression, predictably, got worse, and I began to have more suicidal thoughts, some of which I notated on a work sheet given to me by the facility, which I proceeded to turn in to them, honestly not thinking much of it. The next thing I knew, the doctors called me into my room, telling me they had read the worksheet. Without talking to me first, they instead unilaterally decided to transfer me to another facility because they "didn't have the capability to take care of a suicidal person". I was being transferred immediately, had no say in the matter, couldn't contact anyone to let them know what was going on, and didn't receive any information on weather I could come back to receive the treatment I needed. This, all over a "suicidal" answer to a worksheet question. The doctors told me specifically that I wasn't being 5150'd (5150 is a code in hospitals for a patient gets placed in an involuntary psychological detainment). They insisted that where I was going wasn't a psychiatric hospital, and that I could leave any time I wanted once I arrived there. These all turned out to be bald faced lies. After an uncomfortable, 3 hour ride at midnight in the back of an ambulance, I arrived at my new treatment center only to find it was in fact a psych ward and I was in fact under a psychological hold. This was an incredibly traumatic experience that made me distrustful of rehabilitation institutions for many years. It all could have been avoided had these so-called doctors not taken me off my depression medication, and it still baffles me to this day that supposedly highly educated men couldn't predict that things would go the way they went. I've since gone to a different treatment facility, one with more competent doctors who told me they would NEVER take a patient off a medication that quickly, let alone against their will. At Willingway, they are more interested in shifting liability and making money than helping people save their lives with dignity. Their doctors are incompetent, and will lie to and manipulate patients, who are denied a say in how their treatment goes. Disgusting. Stay away. read more

I have been a clinician and in recovery for over 30 years. As such, I have had the opportunity to work with Willingway and its staff for most of that time. They have always been a stable, straightforward and clinically sound program. During my own early recovery I had a terrible reaction to be told what to do. I believe the negative interaction is due to that fact. People are always looking for a way to avoid accountability, responsibility and getting honest with themselves and others. My 22 yr old son has been struggling with addiction for 6 years. We have tried countless treatment centers and sober livings, nothing stuck, it was a constant merry go round. He is currently living at the Men's Lodge, Willingway's long term sober living program for men, and I can honestly report that he is doing better after 2 months there than he has in the entire last 6 years. WW has a proven formula and combined with amazing and supportive staff who have been through it themselves, they have created an atmosphere and structure for success. I got sent here as a 17 year old and I have been to many treatment centers in the past year, struggling with a raging addiction I relapsed at my sober living and got sent here to detox. IT WAS THE WORST TREATMENT CENTER I HAVE EVER WENT THROUGH! The therapists seem to only be there for the paycheck and don't seem to actually care about any of your problems. The air container system in my room had black mold growing in it and they didn't even care they just shook there head and that was the end of it. The food is sub-par and always made my stomach hurt after. If you think about sending someone you love here just know its not what they tell you it is. Its a fraud and a waste of money. The only thing that will come out of it is severe depression from not being able to contact your family and loved ones. read more

I spent 11 months in totally in statesboro and learned how to live sober. I mended relationships and got my life back together all with the help of Willingway and their incredible staff. The guys that run the Lodge genuinely care about the patients and want the best for us and our families. I would highly recommend the lodge for anyone that is struggling with staying sober and had tried various 30-90 programs. For me, I needed to go to extended treatment and rewire my thinking and actions. Willingway is a rehab that I would be cautious of, as their pictures and past reviews are not a reflection of its current status. I recently spent 26 days there for treatment and from my first interaction with staff, I was concerned. The staff member who did my intake was not knowledgeable of basic questions of care and what to expect from the experience. Every question was answered with "you have to talk to your counselor" and you don't find out who your counselor is for a week. This is the person who makes all decisions for you, speaks with your family, and meets about your progress weekly. I spent 2 days in detox after having to negotiate from taking medications for withdrawals that I was not having. The medical director Dr. Raham was the doctor I saw upon arrival, who convinced me to take medications that I did not need after recommending me to take a benzo and subutex (one treats alcohol withdrawal and the other opioid withdrawal) neither of which I was coming off of. I was concerned about this to begin with but he made it clear that I would take something to agree to this program. I found that he treated every patient the same, regardless, and often forgot why I was there when speaking with me. He forgot to order medications for patients who were on antidepressants and anti-psychotics and they had bad outcomes. He also will tell you that he will write orders and when he doesn't you will be in trouble for doing things (such as exercising, with permission from the counselor and doctor) as if a patient would know what orders a provider has written. He will write incorrect dosages for simple medications such as ibuprofen, giving you less than the recommended dose for your weight, ex. 400mg for a 230lb man/woman. The program itself, is conducted by staff members who have been in treatment themselves, which makes the experience better, adding the ability to relate to the people who are working there. There however, is a complete lack of communication. Groups are repeated , movies are repeated, and if they don't want to lead a group, another movie will be played, again, and again. I saw the same movie 4 times in the time I was there. The facility is aging, no updates have been made, and pictures online are inaccurate. There was a recent flood and the heaters/air conditioning units all had black mold in them. There was no hot water in one of the men's hallways. The staff often didn't wear masks appropriately, and did not test all patients for covid. Snacks were not available 24/7 as they were often empty. The pool is 100% not heated and ran around 34 degrees the entire time we were there. The hot tub is broken. I could go on and on. I will say, the counselor that I saw was great and had me work through a lot of my issues, without her assistance I feel this experience would have been a total waste of time. Willingway gave me a second chance at life! When I arrived I was extremely scared and paranoid but the staff was loving and supportive. It was through their encouragement that I was able to open up and get the help that I needed. My counselor helped me through a lot of tough issues. I went on to complete The Men's Lodge (their men's extended treatment program) and absolutely loved it. I never thought living with 30 other guys would be able to change my life the way it did and molded me into the man I am today. This place was a nightmare for a woman. 2 days of sexual harassment from other male patients totally ignored by management. The lounge room was like a frat house. So basically your a prisoner in your room.I n never saw a real Dr. Just a PA-who was totally arrogant & uncaring. One nurse told me that detox was supposed to be awful!! Do not believe the website....total bait & switch. The rooms in detox DO NOT look like the website. The PA loaded me with phenobarbital even though I have liver issues. No one ever looked at my blood work!! I never saw a counselor until I asked to be discharged early. Worst experience of my life!!! I went there to get sober.....I nearly lost my mind I could go on and on! Horrible, horrible place!!! read more

When my 40 year-old son, who had failed 4 other Rehab facilities, went down to Willingway, we did not have confidence in his ability to get sober. He was physically and mentally not in good condition. After getting out of the hospital and into the lodge, They set out a plan for his recovery. At first, he was not happy with having no phone and no means of transportation. He balked at having To ride a bike in all weather conditions. He soon realized that there was a purpose to everything. The counseling and the meetings Were great for him. They called him out when they saw some thing that was "addict behavior." He thought he would be there for 4 to 6 weeks and he just came home after being there for a year and transitioning through sober living . He knows, that it was a year of growth and he now has positive things to look forward to. I cannot recommend Willingway any higher. He has now been sober for a year and only has the rest of his life to look forward to. read more

The lecture rooms, bedrooms (can't adjust the heat) are freezing (64 degrees) and the techs would not let them be changed. Counselors allow people to monopolize conversations and insult other patients. The techs steal personal items from patients and smoking is out of control...there is no place a non smoker can go without walking through a wall of smoke and walk inside in a cloud of smoke. They need to have a separate program for 17-25 year olds because they are very disruptive for the people that are serious about recovery. For the money do due diligence about age demographics! read more

Horrible place. Some people there are nice and qualified, but the main MD and program is horrible in many ways. Huge failure to follow some standard medical protocols ! Example : The MD failed to follow my sons prior hospital release papers : To follow up instructions on two items , one being a key heart exam procedure ( A serious Cardiac procure! ) And thus put him in wrongful dangerous activities , (until 14 days of my complaints finally woke up the Willlingway MD , and then they did the heart exam procedure ! Numerous Other problems huge too, Including for example ,They never advised my son the program targets so he could earn Release, because they wanted keep him and just get more money. Also, In initial interview, They lied about promising to counsel us on numerous follow up facilities we could choose for after our son's release: But at Release time , They said they only knew about One "Next Step" Long Term Care house : Thier Own ! They are so incompetent , they gave us the huge exorbitant " Total Bill " before departure, and then after release sent us more bills, over $10 K ! Willingway used to be a good place and earned a good reputation with prior MDs and staff. That history is irrelevant now. read more

Do not send your child here. The intake staff is great, and you will be convinced this is a great option for your loved one or child when you call them. Once they get there, you as their parent will be completely ignored, your calls and concerns will not be addressed, and then you will be "cut off" if you try to escalate your concerns about staff to the director (Linda Bragg). The therapist (in our case Lauren Foster) that was assigned to my son was so unprofessional she would not return calls to simply set up my sons online education (which was one of the main reasons we chose this facility), and he was not able to do any class work while in this facility. You as your child's parent will be made to feel that you are an "issue" as they ignore your calls, and you begin to be increasingly concerned about your child in their "care". To top it off my son was "discharged" after 12 days, not because he was well, but because suddenly insurance supposedly wouldn't cover the care that they initially confirmed would be approved for 30-45 days, and a cash option was never discussed, so the first day out of care my son immediately returned to drug use, suicidal thoughts, and has run off with friends in an uncontrollable manner. His family has no idea where he is now. The first chance at recovery, this place destroyed that chance. He turned 18 in their care and a few days later is on the streets. Don't sent your child here. This was the only treatment center, and I've been to several, that was willing to give me the chance of a medication free life. Every other place just loaded me with meds and gave me a number and hoped I wasn't a problem, and if I became outspoken, I got more meds. A relative was treated there. I had recommended the place for him based on the advice of a local alcoholism counselor. Towards the end of his treatment, one of the Dr. Mooney's, apropos of nothing I had said, contemptuously informed me over the telephone: "I think you have a prejudice against people with addiction!" Sad organization. Only want to pressure families to do inpatient without insurance 20-30k you can conveniently pay off in 2 years. Suggested outpatient as an option, they refused. They are not interested in working with people who need it most....don't be fooled by high pressure sales. Nightmare experience. Explained insurance would not approve inpatient and they wanted nothing more than inpatient. Strung us along all week, to call the day before coming to tell us they would not help my son. This treatment facility is very old fashioned, being of service to those who had no other place to go in the early 20th century. They miss the mark on dual diagnosis. Be prepared for almost immediate withdrawal of all prescribed medicines with no tapering allowed. It is a prolonged drying out facility with nothing more than mandatory 12 step meetings. Don't waste your money or time. There are much better facilities in this area, for example Ridgeview Hospital. read more

The difference was Willingway recognized that the amount of inpatient is different for anyone and therefore she wasn't kicked our in 30-90 days like all of the other centers we tried. Willingway is wonderful. Like any other treatment facility, you have to want the treatment. Addiction is a beast of a disease, and treating it can be difficult. I went there in 2008 and stayed for over 40 days. They treat you like a person, not a common derelict. I have been to many other treatment centers, where I was treated like an animal. The Mooney story is wonderful and heartwarming. They care. And furthermore, any one that works there must have, at one point, suffered from the disease of addiction. Now that is smart business. After many treatment centers where my CDAC was just some fool with a degree, I finally understood that you cannot treat addiction unless you have experienced it. I was privileged enough last night to attend a speaker presentation by Dr. Al Mooney, He understands and cares. He disagrees with medicating the addict with all these ridiculous pharma drugs and doesn't always agree with just the 12 steps. Addiction is a disease of the body, mind and soul. I still sit in awe that I was able to attend such a wonderful facility. It is the Betty Ford and Hazelden of the South. Anyone that has the possibility and blessing of the gift of treatment here should go. And, just to let you know, I was a former pharmaceutical rep and I did not, like most addicts, just receive one round at a treatment facility to achieve sobriety. However, I am fortunate enough to be here today-only by the Grace of many who cared, and write this review. All you naysayers, go to the Healing Place and sit in a homeless shelter to try and get "treatment" and you will truly understand that places like Willingway are a Godsend.
