The neurosurgeon was the only competent person I saw. There has only been 7 cases of her injury ever survive. My care there with only one exception was fantastic. The trauma team, emergency department, nurses, technicians therapists, dietary and housekeeping personnel were all friendly, conscientious and great at their jobs. One nurse named Barbara who worked on discharge planning, was the only exception to my excellent care. Barbara works a nursing job that does not provide bedside care. She was going over her discharge plans for me. I have a bullet hole in my left upper thigh. I cannot see this wound directly. While in the hospital, one physician and several nurses packed this wound with saline soaked gauze. These people are trained to pack the wound. They were standing behind me and using TWO HANDS to pack this wound. "Nurse" Barbara's solution for acceptable home wound care was to have me hold a mirror in one hand and use the other hand to pack the wound. As stated earlier, trained doctors and nurses require TWO hands to safely accomplish this task to maintain sterility. Preventing infection is paramount in this situation. In the weeks since my discharge, my opinion of "Nurse" Barbara is that she is out of touch with good patient education. I also believe she is lazy and did not want to take the time to help set up out of state discharge care. The name of my primary care physician in Indiana was well documented on my chart. One phone call to Indiana would have alerted my doctor that I needed additional care. Shame on this nurse for being so negligent.

The nursing care on fourth floor was very good. They were professional and kind. The hospitalist and surgical staff were excellent. What I do not understand was why she had to stay in the ER for 18 hours before transferred to a floor bed. The reason given was that the hospital was full, but I found out shortly after she was transferred to the floor that there was a lot of empty beds. Availability of food and quality was very lacking. The food at the Starbucks on first floor was good but limited time hours of operation and the cafeteria being closed on weekends I guess was ok since people don't need to eat on weekends. In closing, the nursing and medical staff were excellent, professional and kind.

On my latest visit, I went to the front counter for assistance and told the guy, "I am Deaf, but I need to find someone who can correct my account." He verbally responds. I repeat, "I'm Deaf. Maybe write it down for me, as to whom it may concern, to fix my issue." In the future, my voice will be off, and I'll sign it (ASL) and write it down. Maybe that will get the point across. The bottom line was that it was a repeatedly horrible experience, and a similar experience, and probably worse at their Leestown facility.

I am in shock over how UK hospital and its associated hospitals are a complete fraudulent and money…read morehungry organization. My husband had an echocardiogram done as requested by Dr B, a cardiologist at UK. My husband was sent to Good Sam, as the machine was there. Never at any time was he considered an outpatient nor was seen in the ER. UK billing coded this test as outpatient and charged a facility fee (hospital fee for outpatient), but charged a separate fee with the same CPT code, at a separate address for the provider. Since the test was billed as an outpatient test at a hospital, our insurance company applied it to our deductible. The total bill was $4258.00. UK billing never sent an itemized will to us for this. Rather, they sent it to collections. When our insurance company requested they resubmit it with proper documentation, the billing department refused. Further, they have not pulled the bill back from collections as requested to date. Lastly, when I requested a manager to assist me, Cara with billing was unprofessional and hung up on me. I truly hope this review will prevent anyone else from having such an issue like this and strongly encourage you never to use their services as they will try to bleed every penny out of you.

Well, today I found out. I had a 9:30am appointment and a 9am arrival request for an ultrasound of my gallbladder. Yeah, it took the health issues to discover this location. The back door, the one closest to the parking lot, is actually the employee entrance. The public entrance is at the side of the building. The technician was thorough, but she wasn't able to discuss abnormalities. The results were called in to the referring doctor, who will discuss the results with me tomorrow.
