Before proceeding with treatment (Botox for TMJ), I reached out via email and phone with specific questions, including a request for him to consult with my neurologist, which my neurologist recommended. I was told that the doctor deemed the consultation unnecessary and that he would address any questions at the time of the appointment. I was also told he was too busy to review my questions in advance. This made it difficult to feel fully informed or confident going into the procedure. I decided to pursue the procedure anyway. To his credit, during the procedure he did answer my questions and agreed to treat the requested area. However, at my two-week follow-up, I reported increased pain that had been impacting my ability to work and function. The doctor shared a story about another patient he described as someone who complains all the time. The story felt indirect but strongly implied that patient concerns like mine might be exaggerated. This made me feel uncomfortable and dismissed at a time when I was seeking support and clarity about worsening symptoms. Additionally, while in the waiting room, I observed another patient being questioned in a similarly dismissive tone when she asked for additional help post-treatment. This reinforced my concern about how patient concerns are handled in this practice. Overall, while the procedure itself was completed, the communication style, lack of responsiveness beforehand, and dismissive handling of post-procedure concerns made this a negative experience. I would encourage others to ask detailed questions in advance and consider whether this practice is a good fit for them. Long-term results of my treatment experience are yet to be determined, but I will not be returning due to the unprofessional manner in which the provider speaks about, and to, patients.

First Dr. Karnaukh didn't measure my gums to monitor my gum recession and from my previous visit she should've made a note that my gums need to be measured on every visit because I have a significant damage to the structure of my teeth and gum recession as a result of a botched orthodontic treatment done a few years ago. She referred me to a physical therapy for my TMJ and difficulty swallowing but when I called the clinic they told me that based on my symptoms none of their doctors feel comfortable taking my case. Then the cleaning done by the hygienist was a complete joke because she didn't use the machine but she was scrubbing manually and that took forever to have my teeth cleaned. Lastly, they billed only the exam under Dr. Karnaukh's name and the cleaning was billed to my insurance under the name of Dr. Nouneh. I have never seen dr. Nouneh in my life so I don't know what kind of insurance frauds they do there and why they billed my cleaning under a doctor who has never seen me. I called my insurance company and they told me that I have to make them correct this and bill the cleaning under the name of the doctor who did the exam but the manager of Brighter Dental refused and she only offered to remove the balance I owed due to dr. Nouneh not being in network with my insurance. I don't recommend this dental office and unfortunately I have to be on the look for a new dentist again due to the unethical and fraudulent business practices done in this office.

I had a standard cleaning and x-ray check up, and afterwards, Mrs. Rojas checked my x-rays and mentioned that there appears to be potential cavities based on the x-rays. As a preventative measure, she recommended Silver Diamine Fluoride. I never heard of this, and I asked her if there were any side effects. She said it was safe and it's often applied to children (she also added that it was safe in that she applies it to her own son). I took Mrs. Rojas word and she made the first of two applications. I came home and noticed on the bottom of my lip a black mark. After googling Silver Fluoride side effects, one is that it can turn your teeth black and can also blacken the skin. I called up Mrs. Rojas, and asked her why she didn't mention this side effect, especially when I asked her about potential side effects. She said she didn't remember that I asked the question, and that the side effect of blackening teeth/skin is very rare. I was astonished that she said she didn't recall me asking, and even more astonished that she knew of the side effect. The Silver Fluoride requires two applications. I told her that I do not want to be charged and I'm not taking the second application. She said that the side effect is no reason for her not charging me, and that the benefits of preventive cavity treatment outweigh the potential side effects of blackened teeth/skin. This answer from Mrs. Rojas is alarming. Her judgment as a health care professional is off and her ethics are questionable . I can not trust Mrs. Rojas after this experience, and I'm hoping this side effect is not permanent.

She was clearly taking out personal frustrations on patients and Flak would brush it off as if that were a normal or appropriate way for his staff to interact with patients. Flak himself is visibly annoyed if you ask any questions, and he quite transparently just wants to move through as many patients in as little amount of time as possible. While I wish the best of luck to Flak and his team, I do want to warn others that if you care about a) bedside manner, and b) feeling like you aren't just being rushed out the door, I'd consider going elsewhere.
