We walked into a small, but swish looking show room and greeted by who we assumed is the "head" of this family business. He really did know everything. He didn't give us the BS sales patter, he listened to what we wanted, rejoiced in our practicality, and went over various design ideas with us. He showed us different cabinet finishes, different work tops, etc. He expressed an understanding of our budget constraints so when we were informed that one of the cabinet doors we liked was an "8 or 9" on the price scale, while the other was a "2" we asked to see the design/pricing of the "2" doors. After a bit longer than we expected, we were called back to view the design. Unfortunately, they had designed and priced the "8 or 9" doors and while it looked great, the price was far more than what we thought we made clear we could afford. They had some great price-saving ideas and said that they would re-do the design with the "2" doors and let us know. Unfortunately, they never got back in touch. I don't know if we fell under the radar or if they just decided we probably wouldn't be able to afford the cheaper cabinets anyway so decided not to bother with the work. We didn't get back in touch either because we were not pleased having to remind them that they could profit from us, and because we decided to start looking at other options. So, we were left feeling that we liked them but they didn't fully listen to us on our first meeting and seemingly wrote us off as not being able to afford their services. In these economic times I think these upmarket kitchen salesmen need to expand their ideas to cover those of us who are willing to pay more for quality, but don't want to be yanked around in the process.

Initially this company comes across as a great place to buy a kitchen. They have a great showroom…read moreand the staff seem pleasant, informative and knowledgeable. However after clearly outlining our budget we received our quote which was about £5K more than we had anticipated, however because of the quality of the kitchens on offer we decided to push our budget and commit to buying what we believed was a superior kitchen. Work was generally satisfactory although trying to get the tradesmen to respond to our calls and pin them down on dates for completion was a nightmare once the process had started. There was a period of about two weeks when no work went on at all. However, once the work was complete we suddenly found that several additional costs had been added on without consultation and so began a lengthy battle with the company, refusing to pay these unspecified costs. No written or verbal changes to the original quote had been advised by the company and we ended up having to threaten to go to the Ombudsman to get it sorted. Three years down the line and what we thought was a superior kitchen costing a substantial £16K hasn't proved to be the case. We now have one of the doors hanging off and after calling the company, expecting their work to be guaranteed at that price, have been told by rude sales staff that we cannot make an appt to get the work fixed but will just have to keep calling back on the off chance one of their tradesmen is free. On the whole an exceptionally poor experience for a LOT of money.

There isn't anything wrong with Hi-Fi Corner and it's a bit of a one of a kind in the area, but it…read moredoesn't' capture my imagination as much as other places in Edinburgh Some places you walk in to buy some speakers and leave wanting a thirty grand sound system, but this places doesn't generate the same magic. Despite this, the fundamentals of this place are good and if you want high, but not ultra-high, end this is the place to come. There isn't however, the greatest amount of variety of each product type in store. As a shop it's decent enough, but if you're picky you'll want to go both here and somewhere else.

This place specialises in brands that you have heard of, but models you've never seen. What do I mean? I mean your unlikely to find these Sony TV's on sale on the high street. This begs the question I would be asking myself as I made my way through the shop. Whats the difference between a £700 40 inch and a £1400 40 inch TV? None that I could see. They also sell a range of other AV gear, but to be honest, it's just for people who like to show off how much money they earn.

Dunwell Roofing were contracted to fix my roof after a storm stripped most of the slates from the…read morefront, lifted off the top flashing and caused extensive damage to the back (fact) Dunwell roofing did not complete the work to a satisfactory level and were asked back 5 times - every time they claimed they had gone up and "fixed it" however water still came through and there was no evidence they had been on the roof (fact) Mr Bennet put pressure on me to pay the invoice even though I was not happy with his work (fact) Due to continued damage to my flat - because there was water still coming in due to the work Dunwell Roofing carried out, or rather did not carry out - I had to contract a separate roofer (fact) The second roofer was horrified at the work, or lack of it, that Dunwell had carried out (fact). They took photos and I forwarded these to Mr Bennet at Dunwell Roofing (fact). Mr Bennet's response was very aggressive and he blamed previous work on the roof - this makes no sense as the storm damage pretty much stripped the roof and he was paid to fix whatever problems there were, which he did not (fact) When asked for a refund or compensation (I had incurred additional costs due to hiring a second roofer) he became increasingly aggressive and finally unresponsive (fact) Both Trading Standards and the Police were aware of Dunwell Roofing and Mr Bennet before I contacted them (fact). I have forwarded my documentation to them and am happy to share it with anyone else (fact)

When we…read morehad the bad snow in 2010, all the gutters at the back of my house came down with the weight of the snow. As I was in a panic thinking this was a big job Mr Bennett reasured me by telling me it was a matter of putting new hooks on the gutters. I got the Estimate for work to be done the same day and he sent his men out a few days later after most of the snow had gone and done the repairs at a very reasonable price. I also got Dunwell Roofing back out again as my gutters had a blockage, unknown to me this is quite a common thing, again this was done quickly and efficiently. Thanks again MW
