Dr Freeman changed out a crown that I had put in down in Mexico when I was living there. The old crown never fit right and the install was sloppy. The work Dr Freeman did was 10x better. It has been a couple of months and I feel so much better! The fit is perfect and I don't even notice it. He took a lot of care in making sure my bite was natural. He is very smart, knows dentistry very well, and really cares that the work he does is the best. I'll be flying back here for my dental work for the rest of my life. Lessons learned. If you want your dental work done right this is where you go. His wife Suzy and kids that work with him in the office are super nice and make the entire experience awesome. On a side note. The last time I used yelp was about 10 years ago when I left a 5 star note for Dr Freeman. I was happy in 2015 and I'm happy in 2026! read more

Best. Dentist. Ever. I'm the kind of person who warily searches reviews for "I hate dentist" stories since I definitely suffer from dental anxiety and only trust reviews from others who have set the bar similarly high when it comes to dental care. Dr. Freeman is truly passionate about his work, very calm and precise in what he does, and makes positive/exited comments about each step so that you are put at ease. I am "recovering" from a root canal as I type this--something that I've had done before with other dentists who made me cry like a baby and swear off dental visits for years. With Dr. Freeman, there was only a bit of initial discomfort with the painkiller injections, but after those kicked in I didn't feel any more pain or major discomfort the whole time, and got to watch my suitably shalllow and diversionary Netflix movie in a relatively relaxed state. Now, several hours later, there is no residual pain, which is unbelievable! All the staff members at Dr, Freeman's have been kind and down to earth--plus my payments have been more affordable than expected (with insurance). Dr. Freeman pisses me off. Yes, I said it... Don't be confused, yes, you do see a 5 star rating above. But this guy really chaps my hide! Yes! Chaps and hide!! Why you might ask? One sentence... Dr. Freeman outdoes every freakin' dentist I have ever been to and no one will outperform what I have seen from his office. Oh, and he doesn't take my insurance! THE INHUMANITY! (Not his fault, my insurance sucks...) Me, in major pain, it was a Friday night... I yelped dentists in my area. I could not believe someone in their office answered! Told them my issue and she said she would call me back... I have shitty dental HMO coverage... last time I went to a dentist I landed in the ER because they could not stop the bleeding... I blame the dentist but have had a small change of mind due to Dr. Freeman. Upon returning my call, the lady (Mrs. Freeman) still answered questions for me even though it was late on Friday eve. She even offered to see me that night!!! I just took a major pain pill and just was not able to go or I would have... she then offered to see me on SUNDAY!!! AND Dr. Freeman DID! Only time I will ever submit 5-stars for something that riddles me with anxiety and despair. That "something" is dentistry and more specifically, my own teeth. They (teeth) have not been solid team players despite good brushing habits my whole life. The result of course is way too many dental procedures. Frequent work relocation has also provided a real insight into different dentists and methodologies. And the conclusion: David, Suzy, Meagan, Michael (and the others) have put together a cohesive group that leaves you feeling relaxed, cared for and most importantly, provides excellent results. Coming from NY where dentists will convince you that there are a million things wrong with your mouth just to get a large payout- it was a breath of fresh air (pun intended) finding such a great dentist in SD. His staff is great. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Freeman and his wife. When I went to my teeth-cleaning appointment on Thursday, Dr. Freeman asked if I had any problems. I mentioned that my teeth were having sensitivity now. He asked my toothpaste brand, and proceeded to give a lengthy and thorough explanation of the different ingredients in toothpaste formulas and why my brand was probably causing the sensitivity. I had no idea! When his lovely wife Suzy took over for the polishing, she gave options for so many flavors of tooth polish, that I just picked the first one, which was tangerine. It took me some trial and error (Smile Care - the Jiffy Lube of dentistry and Hillcrest Family Dental - the most creepy and fearful experience ever in dentistry) to find a caring, trustworthy and affordable dentist in San Diego. I found Dr. Freeman via Yelp and I can't be more thankful to my fellow Yelpers. I have been going here since 2008 and by now Dr. Freeman and his wife are like friends to me. They are both personable and warm. What I like best is that Dr. Freeman is totally thorough and caring in his work. He will explain every facet of whatever procedure he is doing and answer whatever question you might have. He is very gentle and won't make you feel any pain if he can help it. Plus he loves to tell stories and fill your head with various trivia, so you mostly will learn something new when you leave the place! I have had a cavity filled, some retainers made, various X-rays and several cleanings. His prices are very reasonable and I have been paying out of pocket for a few years now. The location is located in a little strip mall with a taco shop next door. Inside though it is nice and clean, with plenty of reading material, a chess board and travel books. Hi Yelpers. I'm not a regular here. I usually only post for great experience and service, or a bad experience. This one is great. Always has been. I think Dr. Freeman and Susie have been my dentist for 10 or more years. Though I should visit them more often, it always feels like family and it was just yesterday during each visit. Now, their son(s) are working there and to recollect the stories they would share about high school sports and such, its nice to see them. As far as care and service, I was a cash customer for years. They always treated me fairly and competitively on pricing. Their technology is current, too. Big screen TV above the chair showing me huge xrays and digital pics of my teeth. That was a little scary. :-) They are amicable, never shame me if it's been a while, and I always leave thinking I have this secret dental experience that I don't want to brag about, though could. And today is that day. Tiny, intimate office in one of the best parts of Clairemont. The donut shop and mexican restaurant next door are equally popular. I feel their intention to be caring and thorough are easily observable. They are so personable and we always share a laugh. I have insurance now and need to confirm if they take it. If not I may drop that coverage, they are that good and I have that much respect for them that I shutter at the thought of having to start over with someone else. Dr. David is extremely caring, professional, patient, and explains everything so beautifully regarding your teeth. My whole family has been coming here since the past 7 years. They have flexible hours, and are even open alternate saturdays. I brought my son here too for his dental exam and cleaning, Dr. Dave and Susie get it all done excellently..not only that, Dr. David makes sure to explain the proper way of brushing, flossing and dental care to the child as well.... great dental education! Both Dr. David and his wife Susie are very sweet, it might be a little difficult to get an appointment initially but trust me, once you visit him, then any previous dental experience elsewhere will pale in comparison. Since I've started going to Dr. Freeman about 2 years ago, I haven't had that awful feeling of dread that usually comes along with knowing I have a dentist appointment looming ahead. They're a bit scatter brained with returning phone calls and billing your insurance correctly... I don't have a fear of dentists, I have a fear of dental bills. I have been going to Dr. Freeman for probably 3 years, I think. Its been a while. I was referred to him by my BFFF, and we have referred all the people we work with to go to him as well. What's cool about this place is that he shows you everything the procedure entails, even pictures, and full explanations. I think its cool and I like to see before and after work stuff. The last time I was here I had to get shots and before they injected me he showed me exactly where he was going to shoot me up at, for lack of better words, sans needle. Dr Freeman tries to make it as painless as it can possibly be. I have experienced the no call back thing, and it was for almost a month where I didn't hear back and that's why I didn't give them 5 stars. However, I really like this dentist and I really don't want to bother with looking for someone new. Plus he always has new movies to watch and his wife is into Harry Potter, so I can nerd out while I'm there. read more

I recently changed my dentist to Dr Freeman who was a recommendation from a close relative. This is a very nice, caring and family environment. They are very down to earth and are caring towards their patients. Michael at the front office is extremely professional and helped me take care of a situation involving my prior dentist which prevented me from getting a cleaning. Confession time. Before I went to see Dave, (yea, "Dave". not Dr. Freeman..."Dave" - thats how he introduced himself), I was TERRIFIED of going to the dentists. but like death and taxes, everything is inevitable and after yelping for some referrals within my insurance coverage, I found him. Let's just say that it had been nearly 12 years since my last visit and like 5 years prior to that one. Needless to say, dentistry was undervalued in our home growing up. BUT!!! Before you judge, after my last visit, I'm still cavity free and need no work done besides a filling replacement that fell out a year (or two) back. Now on to my actual review of my visit. EVERYONE did their damnedest to make sure I was comfortable and at ease. Literally...everyone. They chitchatted, we talked about movies and lots of other things. They also have the small ceiling-mounted TV's with headphones that can take your mind off of things. Dave was so thorough about what he was doing, what I might feel doing my procedure (teeth cleaning/polishing), the dental assistant (sorry, forgot her name :( ) was phenomenol about keeping me relaxed during the x-rays and everything else. Absolutely the best experience I have ever had with a dentist. Very personable and absolutely does not try to screw you over with additional or outrageous charges like other dentists I have seen in the San Diego area. I actually had a dentist on my hockey team that I went to previously located in UTC, and even though we had a personable relationship, he would charge me through the roof every time. David Freeman gave me brushing tips, recommended toothpaste to buy at the store, as well as giving me in-depth explanations about how to care for my teeth better. I have lived in San Diego almost 8 years now and it took me 7 to start seeing a dentist in SD County! I am from the LA area and visit my family on occasion and for nearly 7 years, I would make the drive up to see the dentist in their area that I had been seeing for several years. Choosing a dentist is an extremely personal decision and can be a really scary thing! Dr. Freeman is amazing and really makes going to the dentist actually enjoyable; I would have never thought that was possible, but he and his friendly staff has made that possible! I really trust his work and value his honesty. It is so great having things explained to you before and after having work done on your teeth. His office makes you feel at home like you are family, not just another patient. Even after all those years of traveling to and from LA just to see my old dentist, I must confess that Dr. Freeman is a much better and more caring dentist than the one in LA I had such a hard time parting with.
