He's cared for my dental health and hygiene along with providing orthodontic treatment. Best Dentist, hands down. I was searching for a new dentist in San Diego, went to Mark Bishop and loved the service and professionalism from him and his team. I had recently been to the dentist 3 times in that last year and Dr. Bishop pointed out that my old dentist had missed a lot of dental work that needed addressing. This was my first visit, so I was skeptical of course. For a second opinion, I went back to my old dentist who said everything was fine still and I shouldn't worry, but filled one cavity. When I told this to Dr. Bishop, he proceeded to spend 30-45 minutes showing me everything in the x-rays and with a camera of what my old dentist missed. I couldn't believe it, my old dentist was blind since I could see the cavities myself and I'm not even a professional. Dr. Bishop and his team took care of the sensitive tooth pain I had, filled multiple cavities and fixed a botched filling that my dentist had just recently done which was causing sensitivity (my old dentist had drilled my took down to the nerve and filled it). He offered great oral hygiene advice, fitted me with a low-profile MAD device for sleep apnea, and he was incredibly meticulous during his services. If I ever leave San Diego, I'm flying back to him for any of my future dental appointments, he's that good. He's also just enjoyable to talk to! read more

I started going to Dr. Bishop about 4 years ago after getting a recommendation from a friend. I don't really know how to write a dental review, but here goes: Staff: The receptionist was very nice. The hygienist was friendly and did a good job -- not too rough, but did the job. Offices: The offices are a little older, but it looks like they've tried to update a few of the cosmetic issues. New door logo, new carpets, etc. The rooms are a little dated, but are clean and bright. Equipment: Not really the expert here, but I'll try. Nothing out of the ordinary, I guess. I haven't had anything major done beside a filling (normally just cleanings), but everything seems in order and is in good working condition. The Dr.: Here's where I give the 4-stars. My past experience with dentists has been...varied. The dentist I had in my teens was terse and rushed, and as a result, kind of scary. This is the first time I've actually looked forward to the "review" time at the end of the appointment. Dr. Bishop is a bit goofy, but very friendly and very affable. In addition, you can really tell he knows what he's doing. He seems to take pride in his work and enjoys what he does. Recommended! read more

I HATE dentists. They are scary and usually rough with every thing they do. That is one of the reasons I ended up with so many problems that I had to get taken care of. I found Dr. Bishop on google and he was literally right behind my house and so I made an appointment. Dr. Bishop was great. He is the first dentist that I enjoyed meeting. He is very thorough and you can tell he is a type A-perfectionist which is a great thing to have in a dentist. He is very honest with you and doesn't charge more than what is reasonable. He seems to be less expensive than the last person I saw. Laura at the front desk is amazing by the way. She is very good at what she does and always makes sure to call with an appointment reminder. I found myself in desperate needs this morning trying to find a dentist/ortho to help me with an infection in my wisdom tooth. Called up this location crying in pain, and the receptionist was willing to comfort me and schedule me the soonest appointment. I stated my low income and am so grateful for the experience and generosity during this time in need. I did not feel judged or pushed away, this is a kind whole hearted place willing to work with you. I have left with a smile, and antibiotics to clear my infection. Wow. The experience I just had was amazing; FINALLY, I've found a dentist that I'm confident in. First thing first, even without dental insurance the prices were very reasonable. Now to my issue: When I was 7 or 8, I was struck in the mouth with a pipe and thus began the nightmare that was my front tooth. Every year and a half since then (despite baby'ing it...) the bonded part would break off while eating something soft. I kid you not, it got to the point where I would have nightmares about it breaking off at inopportune times. Anyway, years later the trauma from that incident caused the two teeth to die so I got root canals... all the while the bonded tooth continued to break off on regular occasion. Yata yata, 6 dentists later (Mark Bishop) & I've never before felt so confident in the job done. let me explain: * I let them know that I wanted the filling to be lighter than my teeth so it would match after whitening them. * the digital x-ray revealed an air pocket in the tooth (due to a less-than-ideal-job-done on one of the root canals) that was responsible for some grey darkening. He drilled in & completely cleaned out the inside of the tooth (from the back), re-filling it and giving it a renewed vibrancy? (not sure really how to explain it). & instead of just filling in the chip like so many others had done before, he actually ground a thin layer off the front & back so that he could give the bonding more surface area. They provide a calm and relaxing environment to make going to the dentist as pleasant as an experience as possible. I really feel like I am with friends whenever I have an appointment. I have over 24 years experience working in a dental office and have worked for many. Dr. Bishop is definately not the norm in that his approach is conservative, personable, and genuine. He will let you know what he recommends and there is no push at all. His fees are reasonable in comparison and most importantly, the quality of dental care is top notch. Fantastic dentist. He's definitely the best one I've ever had, which is saying a lot since I've had a TON of dental work done. When I got done with my procedure my first thought was to get on here and tell everyone how relatively awesome (getting dental work done is never actually awesome) it was! I've had a few bad experiences throughout my life which led to an almost phobic fear of the dentist. It's been over a year since my last visit to my old dentist and it was a huge effort to get my behind into that chair! So...... Office staff: Laura is wonderful. She is super nice and very knowledgeable. She was very understanding and reassuring and made the scheduling process very easy. Office: Nothing fancy but clean, bright and well-maintained. Assistant: She was kinda new to the office so she was still learning their equipment. She was very nice, professional and knew her stuff. Dr. Bishop: He's awesome. I agree with another reviewer who said he's kinda 'goofy' but in a good way. He was easy to talk to, asked about my past experiences and why I'm so scared. He immediately put me at ease. He did my exam and cleaning. He was very gentle, talked me through everything and both procedures were painless. I ended up needing a lengthy procedure because my last dentist did a shoddy job. Luckily the scheduling worked out well I came back to get my procedure soon after. Again, he talked me through everything and had me listen to music during the procedure. He also helped me relax by having me do deep breathing. His anesthetic shots were the least painful I've had as well. Overall, it was the least unpleasant dental experience ever! I've had issues with my TMJ and clenching my teeth for several years and he's the first dentist to offer me an oral night guard. He's very thorough! Side note: They accept CareCredit. He never gave me the feeling that he was pushing treatment or having things done sooner than need be (i.e. wringing money out of me and my insurance). read more

I will have to have crowns and some other teeth replaced with implants and he is professional, does not pressure for work you can't afford, and makes you feel comfortable when you are talking about something as personal (and embarrassing) as having some bad teeth. This is the first dentist I have visited where I actually enjoyed the experience and am looking forward to going back! The staff was so friendly and welcoming I felt right at home, even as a new patient. I was pleased to meet the doctor before beginning my cleaning who was incredibly personable and put me at ease. The hygienist was extremely communicative and gentle, regularly checking on my comfort level. It was the first time getting a cleaning that I didn't have to white knuckle the arm rests and was even able to relax during the experience. When Dr. Bishop came back in to examine my teeth, he too was extremely communicative and shared his thoughts on some potential work I could have done (I have some fillings that will need to be replaced and a chipped front tooth) but left it to me and did not push for any unnecessary dentistry (invisalign, tooth whitening, wisdom tooth removal) that were constantly pushed on me by my previous dentists. Overall, it was an extremely pleasant experience and I highly recommend this practice to anyone, especially someone that has anxiety about the dentist office. Dr. Bishop is the best! Just got my pearly whites cleaned today and I'm all good for 6 months. I've been with Dr. Bishop since '04 after my last dentist asked me to find another dentist when I fainted in her chair (yes, I'm a fainter). Dr. Bishop was excited to take me as a patient and I haven't had a queezy moment in his care. He replaced all my silver fillings with composites going on 6 years now and says they could last me another 10 to 12 years no problem.
