We wanted to install a 1 or 2-zone system, but my condo has a number of unique complications, though, so we weren't able to go forward with the project at that time. Fast-forward a couple years, and we decided to revisit the idea. We also decided to go big or go home this time, with a 5-zone system for the whole house. This time we got estimates from two other companies first, but one provided an extremely high quote and the other basically said that we were asking an impossible job that they could not do. So we reached out to NETR again, and it worked out great. The NETR price was literally more than 10K less (!!!) than what we were quoted by the other company, and they took care of all the secondary project burdens like City of Somerville building permits, upgrading our electrical service, etc. They gave us a clear idea of what to expect in terms of construction disruption, the workers were friendly and unobtrusive, and they finished the work right on schedule. It's too early to speak with certainty about the quality of the system we installed, but we are thrilled to finally have this project complete, and are very satisfied with the pricing, service, and installation work.

We called because our central air shut down. A technician ( Eric) showed up and immediately figured out it was just a faulty capacitor. We were told it would cost about $ 600 to repair with a one year warranty but if we wanted a better capacitor with a 5 year warranty the cost would be about $850. I asked him why it was so expensive if its a simple job and the part is low cost and he mumbled something about overhead and the cost of doing bussiness. When we got the bill it was $979 with the diagnostic added in. Ive since looked up the going rate for this work and it runs around $150-$300 so we were charged triple the normal cost. I really feel like my wife and I were taken advantage of because we are both elderly. Please avoid this preadatory company at all costs.

Many other companies wouldn't even attempt this. Not only did he get it all done expertly, but he walked me through the digital setup (and a rebate process I didn't know existed -- which I'm pleased to say went through!), stayed awhile to ensure everything was working as expected (temperature, air pressure through vents), and did not try to upsell anything. Truly transparent and efficient. I'll definitely be keeping him and Gemini in mind for future upgrades, as it sounds like they also have plenty of experience in mini-splits, which could be a good supplementary strategy to cool our basement server room.

Downgrading to two stars. I still stand by the initial review (hence the second star) - Hiram did…read morerespond promptly when we were somewhat desperate and cobbled something together that seemed to work. Until it didn't. A few months after the install, all units stopped working after a storm. After months of back-and-forth, he finally realized -- through trial and error - that the boards of all units are fried and need to be replaced. His best guess? "Your condenser probably got hit by lightning" (condenser is on the roof, but we have a lightning rod; there's been no indication otherwise that the building got hit by lightning). A few weeks pass by, some more rain, same thing happens again. Replace all the boards again. "Your condenser keeps getting hit by lightning". A few more weeks, same thing again. By this point a year has passed after the install and we have spent most of that year with our $30,000 mini splits completely non-functional. It's also pretty clear that it's an issue with the install and nothing to do with imaginary lighting. Then Hiram has the audacity to inform us that our one-year contract has expired and now we have to start paying him for repairs, even though this issue started while we were still under contract and has persisted for months because Hiram has simply been unable to fix it. At this point, I was willing to just move on and hire a more competent contractor to fix the issue. That's when we started having other contractors look at the system and realized what a horrendous job Hiram had done. Most egregiously, the wiring had been done incorrectly, creating a huge FIRE HAZARD and potentially exposing our entire household and our neighbors to significant PROPERTY DAMAGE and potentially loss of life. See attached screenshot from assessment. In addition, there have been numerous other issues with the install: - Water repeatedly leaking from the heat pumps into our house when it rains - Exposed lines - Condenser freely standing on the roof, not affixed to anything - Slopily taped line set covers - Sloppily installed water pumps - Overall poor craftsmanship See attached images. We are currently addressing the issues one by one with multiple contractors. To be clear, WE ARE STILL WITHOUT A/C TWO YEARS AFTER THE INSTALL. We only really had it working for ~6 months. Unclear if it's even salvageable. In hindsight, there were also multiple red flags that we overlooked in the beginning, but should have given us pause: - Hiram did not know that Fujitsu is Japanese. How can you not know the country of origin of your main supplier? - He drilled through brick in our apartment without any precautions, filling our entire house with brick dust. He had no idea it's hazardous to breathe in, he didn't even put a mask on himself. Our entire condo was covered in brick dust. We had a 1-year-old kid at the time. - He did not clean up properly after himself, our son ended up with a glass shard in his foot Overall, I would not recommend Hiram's services to anyone. He is polite and responsive, but when push comes to shove, his work is not just poor quality, but outright dangerous. Hiram, before you post some sob response like "I'm just trying to feed my family man", consider this - you put my family, and my neighbors' families at risk because of your incompetence. And you ultimately refused to take responsibility. You should be ashamed of your work and of your character. (Responding to Hiram's response) -- there were no "stories", I was just trying to help you figure out what could be causing this. Yes, you definitely blamed lightning multiple times. I had multiple contractors take a look at it and say the same things. This is not "Mother Nature". This is just a plain bad job.

Ryan was great, tried to keep my carpets/bathroom clean as much as possible and was patient in discussing my options and answering my questions. Surprisingly was able to get an appointment for install on Monday. Jared was also great. Definitely appreciate the small details and concerns to keep the carpet clean like hand carrying both the old and new water heater up 2 flights of stairs. Between the quick response/scheduling time, clean workmanship, and fine attention to detail, happy to say the leaking water heater experience felt less chaotic with 128's help! The estimate (#435094323) was $30,275 to demo every wall and ceiling necessary, disconnect first- and second-floor bathrooms, toilets and sinks, and replace the main stack. That was presented to me as the only option -- no alternatives, no phasing, nothing. And it did not include the roughly $6,000 I'd need to close the walls back up and reinstall fixtures, or the ~$400 roofer I'd have to hire and coordinate myself. Their own estimate puts the hole repair on the customer in writing. All in: nearly $37,000. Meanwhile my first-floor tenant was told she couldn't use her bathroom or her kitchen. When I hesitated at the number, I was told that at least if I sold the house I'd "have retail value." That's the line that made me stop and get a second opinion. Thompson Plumbing came out, found the actual leak -- old hubbed cast iron serving the kitchen -- and repiped it. $2,995. My final invoice was $3,420, and that included an unrelated frost-free silcock I added on. My toilet was fine. My kitchen sink was fine. My tenant's kitchen and bathroom were fine. Not one wall was demoed. Same house. Same leak. Ten percent of the price. I'm not going to speculate about why the two assessments were so far apart. I'll just say this: if 128 Plumbing tells you your house needs a $30,000 repipe, get a second quote before you sign anything. I nearly didn't, and it would have cost me thirty-three thousand dollars I did not need to spend.
