My experience going to DDC has been eye-opening. I heard great things about the clinic from a colleague, who raved about the high level of care, detailed diagnostic testing and follow up recommendations he recieved during each visit. As a 50 year old man with concerns about my family health history, I felt it was time for me to upgrade my healthcare game. DDC is concierge practice that specializes in a more personalized approach to patient care. What seems to separate DDC from other concierge practices is their unique diagnostic approach that is supposed to increase the odds of early detection and treatment of the most common diseases. In my case, I now have much deeper insight into my health and my unique risk factors. This has enabled me to get additional screening and take other precautions that may help me avoid or, at least, delay the fate my genetics . DDC is not cheap and insurance doesn't pay for most of their services, but if you can afford you it, you will have much greater peace of mind about your health. read more

I have been a patient at the Clinic for 5 years, and have had nothing but a great experience. Dr. Hao is an incredible doctor with impeccable credentials. He is also very personable. I read through some of the more negative commentary on the page, and was really surprised - these comments do not reflect my experience with the Clinic. I guess YMMV. Whenever I have an issue, the doctor is always available and returns calls within a few hours. Scheduling appointments is also easy. I would recommend this Clinic to anyone who wants more thorough care than the standard physical. read more

The quality of medical care is top notch; however, once the doctor walks out, the nightmare begins with your bill. What you don't know and aren't told before your office visit can hurt you financially. Their botique medical clinic "provides services to people of means" (a direct quote from one of their staff). In their initial letter, they are not open and forthright about their billing and that they do not participate with any insurance plans. Their website is equally silent on these matters. (That means they are out of network for all insurance companies and can charge you anything they want.) Further, they do not tell you that they require/demand full payment (thousands of dollars) at the end of the visit. Most of the tests are not performed in their offices -- they use Washington Radiology Associates, LabCorp, and Commonwealth Radiology (who group bills directly to David Drew). LabCorp billed insurance for a part of the bloodwork (not sure why all the bloodwork wasn't sent to insurance) and billed the rest directly to David Drew. At the end of the office visit, the "closer" comes in and tells you they expect payment in full ... if you pay with a credit card, they charge you $150 more ... or that if you pay with cash/check, you get a $500 discount. The "closer" also tells you that you are now a "member"; however, neither their letter nor their website says anything about "concierge" medicine and membership. Some tests were not done at the initial visit and I wanted those tests removed from the bill, so I was told to make payment on the followup visit. Between the two visits, I discovered the WRA and LabCorp charges were submitted to insurance and paid. At the followup visit, I wanted these charges removed from the bill and David Drew was reluctant until I produced copies of the EOBs. After leaving the initial office visit, I requested a breakout of the charges and procedure codes and was met with resistance, causing me to make the request almost daily and get the same answer back -- that I could only get that information after I PAID IN FULL. The David Drew Clinic does not (and will not) provide you with a breakout of the individual charges that comprise total costs and/or the procedure codes. Without the procedure codes and the breakdown of charges, you cannot file an insurance claim. I was not allowed to leave with an itemized bill unless I paid in full, so I left -- stating that I would pay when I got an itemized bill with procedure codes. I was verbally abused by a male staffer who yelled at me for 20+ minutes when I balked at being required to pay in full without an itemized bill. When I returned to work after the followup visit, my office phone had a message light. The voicemail was from the male staffer (who'd yelled at me and verbally abused me for 20+ minutes), suggesting he should pick up a check from my house that evening (still not agreeing to provide me with an itemized bill and procedure codes)! I have never heard of a doctor's office going to such extremes to collect payment. (Collection agencies aren't allowed to harass and intimidate in this manner. There are legitimate ways to collect a debt ... demanding payment on a patient's doorstep is not one of them!) Because I wasn't allowed to have a breakout of charges and procedure codes, I don't have a bill ... and, thus, I don't know what I owe. When David Drew takes you to Commonwealth Radiology and/or Washington Radiology ... be sure that those providers are going to bill your insurance directly (that they aren't going to bill David Drew) Be sure you read every form before you sign it ... to be sure you're not signing away anything. So, my advice to both "people of means" and those less fortunate ... go to the David Drew Clinic at your own [financial] risk! The doctor was great. The overall experience was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! (If I could use something other than an "F", I would. I'd give them a Z- if that was possible. Like two other comments, find another clinic. Find a private practice or clinic that is reputable. Something is fishy at the David Drew Clinic ... demanding payment in full before giving you an itemized list of charges and procedure codes ... it doesn't pass the "stink" test. read more

Although the Clinic uses slick promo materials and radio advertising about performing the "most comprehensive" physical and touts its longitudinal studies of its patients and low death rates, I strongly recommend to go elsewhere. I was seeking a very thorough exam and lots of biomarker and other diagnostic testing. That I found and I really wanted that kind of practice. But, I was uncomfortable with how the Clinic carried out the practice of medicine. However, I did not find a connection between the Clinic and Centers elsewhere in the US doing cutting edge R&D about biomarkers as well as longevity. I experienced a lack of patient privacy; cannibalism of one patient's appointment for another; refusal to inform a prescribing physician that Dr. Soncrant had changed an Rx. I found a very casual attitude by the nurses and lack of documentation by them. Initially Dr. Soncrant provided written comments (in letter form) for some tests, but that tapered off for whatever reason. Took 2 - 8 weeks to get simple blood test results. The Executive Assistant (Nancy) runs around like a chicken with its head cutoff. I always had the gut feeling that individual patients were treated, at least to some degree, based on their social, political, power etc status in the Metro area - so this is totally subjective. I have been a patient of the Clinic for about twelve years and I have been happy with my experience. They have been proactive in evaluating test results. In cases where I have needed treatment by other specialists they have maintained good communication with those providers. They provide me with detailed reports of blood test and interpretations of my physicals state. I do find their advertising is sometimes a little exaggerated. read more

My husband and I have been going to the David Drew Clinic for 7-8 years. Dr. Soncrant and the staff are very friendly and professional. All of the tests are done in the same building so it's a one stop appointment. It's such a good feeling to know, at least every six months, if there is something going on in your body so that it can be addressed before it gets serious. The reports that we receive after our visit are in-depth and informative. I would definitely recommend David Drew to anyone who can afford it as it is not always covered by insurance. A physical and more! The best part of this experience is the peace of mind that I walk away with every year. They look at every corner of my body for signs or wear (or worse). I've had my genes sequenced to find out what might lie ahead, and they keep an eye out for those things. Imaging, testing of my heart, and advice and treatment to minimize risk -- it makes those office physicals I used to get seem primitive. I guess eventually something is gonna get me, but I'm putting that off as long as possible. read more

Maybe this is a good place for older males but they don't seem to have a clue what to do with a fertile female. I'm in my early 40's and wanted to get pregnant so thought it'd be a good idea to get completely checked out. In my phone interview going over my medical history with Dr. Soncrant, I expressed that this was the main reason for contacting them. At the personal meeting before all the testing, I again restated that it was in the interest of getting pregnant that I sought their services. Yet, with all the tests to be performed for the whole afternoon, they did not schedule a pregnancy test. As they sent me up to get x-rays and an MRI, I saw signs in the changing rooms AFTER the chest x-ray saying to speak up if you might be pregnant. I spoke up that I was trying so it was possible and it put everything to a halt. I had assumed they had done at least a pre-screening before sending me to the last tests but everyone was so shocked that I said I could be pregnant and everything came to a halt. After all the hubbub, they said they'd order a pregnancy test too and then we could reschedule the final tests after the results come in a few days. I went home and took a 2-minute pregnancy test and I was pregnant! Maybe I should've done it before going to the office, but they should've also told me to do so before coming in. There's more to the story but essentially over the next 9 months, they kept sending me reminders to come finish the testing. I don't know how many times I told them that I was pregnant, and even got prescribed antibiotics safe for pregnancy, but they kept calling and sending letters to get the final testing finished. If you are paying so much for personal service and there's two extensive interview periods before the testing, then how could I feel so much like everything was falling on deaf ears?! There did not feel like any personal service at all, they just put you through the tests like a factory and are caught off guard if you aren't what I assume their standard client is, likely a white male over 60. Do not trust Dr. Soncrant or the David Drew clinic. My father and close friend were patients of Dr. Soncrant and he missed a major illness that ultimately resulted in my friend's death. Despite how nice he may appear, Dr. Soncrant is not conscientious and has made many serious judgment errors. My friend had symptoms for years that Dr. Soncrant did not recognize. I signed up for the consult and screening at the recommendation of a close friend who is a patient. Since I'm nearing 40, I thought it was time for a comprehensive assessment. The staff was very attentive and communicative. The scheduler was kind and very accommodating to my schedule (3 little kids and school to work around). When I did come in for the appointment, I was treated with utmost respect, privacy, and attention. The testing was seamless, with ZERO wait time. From the sonographer to the nurse who drew blood to the the MRI tech, everyone was extremely professional and friendly. Dr. Hao was wonderful. I can honestly say I enjoyed my time with him discussing life, health, and family. He answered all of my questions with candor and patience. Despite my reservations about the extent of the testing (time, $), the peace of mind and information I received was WELL worth it. The adage of "you don't have anything if you don't have your health" is becoming more and more relevant with each year. I am glad that an institution exists that can educate, inform, prevent, and treat with such grace and respect. A positive surprise: the cost of the testing also includes a full year of concierge medicine. read more

My husband and I had a very positive experience with the David Drew Clinic. My husband is a Ph.D. toxicologist and I am a registered nurse with over 30 years of experience. We came to the clinic expecting a top-notch, comprehensive assessment and we got it. It was thorough and informative. We saw Dr. Hao who is outstanding. The goal of this type of care is to screen for pathology, to treat what needs to be treated, and to monitor and continue to intervene over time to maintain the highest level of wellness. Dr. Hao did something my primary care physician has not. He took all the many pieces of data and came up with a treatment plan that encompasses all my areas of "risk". I know that through the years, I will have the best monitoring of my health possible. Nancy and Sean, the supportive administrative staff, are professional, personable, and available. For all of us who have had to deal with surly, negative office staff, this is a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend the David Drew Clinic and Dr. Hao specifically. read more
