Sorry, I wasn't sure on her credentials) and resident were absolutely gracious, respectful, and kind, I do not intend to pursue care with a doctor who repeatedly violated my boundaries, disrespected my lived experience, and demonstrated ignorance regarding many well-accepted concepts and diagnoses in the medical field. Since you evidently do not understand the nature of trauma or mental distress, allow me to enlighten you. Your aggressive and unprofessional approach triggered me. Unfortunately, you are not the first ignorant doctor I have encountered who has made me feel small and scared and objectified. In this case, those feelings caused me to mentally shut down and lose the ability to properly communicate just how hurtful and inappropriate your questions and comments were to me in the moment. Please allow me some time to express those feelings now. Firstly, you spent an unusually long amount of my appointment discussing your own life experience, so allow me to share a bit of my own. I am a direct descendant of Eastern European immigrants, a direct descendant of people who were victimized by violent antisemitism, and a Jewish historian. Your utter lack of awareness regarding the nature of intergenerational trauma is quite shocking. Telling me that I shouldn't be depressed or anxious because at least I'm not in a cattle car to Auschwitz or being barred from education in Afghanistan was cruel and disrespectful, both to the people who have experienced those things, and to me. Furthermore, when I verbally expressed that I found this line of communication hurtful and unproductive, you nevertheless persisted in violating my clearly stated boundary a few more times before the end of my visit. Additionally, when I informed you that I had recently gained a significant amount of weight due to a battle with a lifelong eating disorder, you not only calculated my BMI (a widely debunked methodology) and informed that I was obese, but also asked why I was fat and anxious if my boyfriend is calm and in better shape. I'm not even sure which of the myriad of potential offensive things you were attempting to imply there, but they all reveal an embarrassing cluelessness regarding basic eating disorder and mental healthcare best practices, as well as a deficit of simple human kindness. To be clear, I understand that weight is a potentially relevant factor when discussing heart health and I was prepared to have that conversation in a reasonable and measured way. What I could not abide, however, were your callous and, frankly, incorrect comments about a subject which I clearly expressed was difficult and painful for me. I respect your life experience and the things you have suffered but your success does not negate anyone else's trauma, nor does it have anything to do with my health. I urge you to educate yourself. His imaging diagnosis convinced me of the importance to move forward with hip replacement surgery. Summit Orthopedics works closely with Sibley Hospital so I was able to schedule a Monday morning surgery and overnight stay at the hospital. The Nurse Navigator Supervisor at Sibley provided information on Pre-Op procedures and an appointment with Sarah, Summit's Nurse Practitioner, involved a review of the surgical procedures and the list of medications with a review of frequency. Dr. Siram brought together a great surgical team comprised of the Sibley Hospital Orthopedic doctors and nursing staff and an anaesthesiologist. The first nurse assigned to my post-Op care placed top priority on Pain Control and coordinated a meeting with In-House PT/OT Team to review and practice the Post-Operative exercises. I completed 2 weeks of In-Home physical therapy with Potomac Home Health Care, affiliated with Johns Hopkins and Sibley. The PT specialist was exceptional: checked vitals; reviewed my medications; provided a home exercise plan that helped me to begin walking with and without a cane, before starting In Office Post-Op PT. They transferring my telephone call to a different department. I said what seeing his PA but apparently you can't do that. I recommend the surgeon but not the follow up. More than anything, I wanted him to finally have a real chance to get out of pain. Traveling from California to Maryland for surgery was a big decision. Michael has been an attorney in San Diego for decades and knows many of the top surgeons here, so going across the country was not something we took lightly. The doctors we saw here were talking about a much bigger open surgery. My husband, being my husband, had an enormous list of questions. A lot of the answers were already available in the information Dr. Christoforetti had put together, and his physician's assistant, Brian, answered many of the others. When we met with Dr. Christoforetti, he carefully went through everything with us and never made us feel rushed, even with Michael's never-ending list. One of the things that made me feel much better was understanding that doing the surgery through small openings did not mean he could see less. With the camera, he could actually get a very detailed view of what was going on and repair what he found without putting Michael through the much larger open surgery that had been discussed. Over the years, Michael tried just about every type of treatment available -- injections, physical therapy, and other non-surgical treatments -- without lasting relief. It meant so much to me that Dr. Christoforetti was finally trying to fix the actual problem instead of just treating the pain again. As a wife, there is a different kind of trust involved. Michael had to trust the surgeon operating on him. I had to trust the person I was handing my husband over to. Dr. Christoforetti made that easy. I felt that he truly cared about Michael and treated him the way you would want someone to treat a member of your own family. His whole team was wonderful to us. Being so far from home made both of us nervous, and having a direct number to Brian, his physician's assistant, gave us a lot of comfort. He was the only of the four that took seriously my fears based on my significant pre-existent condition (beside my deeply arthritic right knee: significant atrophy of all my right leg muscles stemming complications from the removal from the back of my right thigh of a 10 pound, benign tumor when I was 13. Only Dr. Bobrow of the four candidate surgeons had me disrobe to my briefs, and actually examined my entire right leg, including touching it (!). He then told me in detail how my TKR would be somewhat more complicated than usual, and ordered a few tests (e.g., leg/blood circulation) to ensure that my leg was "up to" the surgery. Dr. Bobrow and his excellent team did a great job. My real work began the day after surgery, when the meds wore off, and I was immediately thrust into intense (and initially (three weeks) quite painful) PT, conducted by the experts at ED&A Therapy, located conveniently next door to Dr. B' offices at Summit Orthopedics. By week 4, I was walking without assistance -- but the real benefit was that I awoke each morning to the repeated good news of there being absolutely no pain in my right knee. I'm now 3 months plus, I am walking strong and even, and my atrophied right leg muscles have returned, though I still have a long ways to go! I feel every day something I haven't felt in many years: strong and completely symmetrical. I won't dwell on the pain, frustrations, and hard emotions I experienced in the early weeks -- for a surgery as serious as this, these really have to be expected. The team ensures you have access throughout your recovery to the medication needed to manage your physical pain. Dr. B's office staff is competent, cordial and helpful -- but one must expect that he/she will experience some hiccups with processing and paperwork, and some extended waiting periods beyond the promised appointment time. But this is truly minor stuff. Though he has been doing TKRs and other procedures for some time, Dr. Bobrow comes across as excited with and enthused about his work. Being able to vanquish the constant, often searing pain that comes with an arthritic knee -- now, that's a great talent! I give Dr. Bobrow and his team my highest recommendation for TKR.

When he needed oxygen at home, she made it happen that same day. I don't think any other doctor could have done that! She really went above and beyond to take my father's wishes into account. My father died at home at 95 and I believe those last few years were due to Dr. Barold. If I lived in the area I would definitely want her as my own doctor.

He shows you the X-rays , educates you and follows up diligently so you can see what is happening. He is always available to answer all questions. I also had a friend (over 60) who had a complete shoulder replacement. My friend showed me the X-rays and demonstrated how his shoulder works now - truly a miracle! He has completely recovered and has full use of his shoulder so he can do what he wants to do again. He followed through with all physical therapy but attributes the success to Dr. Petruccelli's skill as a surgeon.
