So tell me again, why do you recommend surgery STAT to create potential more scar tissue with no guarantee of any satisfactory outcome? I would NOT recommend her to any living human being. Dr. Hoffman at Summit Orthopedics was absolutely wonderful. Diagnosis through MRI was marked stenosis, among other related issues at Lumbars 4 and 5. I had laminectomy and fusion surgery at Sibley within a few days; and a few days after that, virtually no pain (without meds), felt really good (and donated walker to a charity). At 6 weeks I feel almost normal, back to gym. Dr. Hoffman is an excellent surgeon, friendly and forthright manner, responds to questions most helpfully and was just superb overall. This was our second appointment. After the first appointment my dad was all but assured that the pain would subside. After some minor alleviation of the pain initially; it came back worse than ever. We called the doctor to find out what could be done only to find out he was on vacation. An event we should have been made aware of at our first meeting. I'm in sales so I know; follow up is everything! We were called back by a PA I believe and was prescribed anti inflammatory medication. It seemed to help a little but the pain traveled to his hip. Long story short is that my dad is suffering. And I will let you know the final story later. He seems a nice enough guy and I just wished he would pay better attention.

i'm so regretful that I had spine surgery with Dr Goldsmith on 10/14/24. I was unable to stand…read moreanywhere approaching straight or walk. THis matter was taken care of in the surgery. However, immediately upon waking up from the surgery I had excruciating pain in my right leg and foot. I had an MRI and was told it was a hematoma and would go away in 6 weeks. THe hematoma went away but the pain did NOT. I got to the point where I was unable to walk or stand, period. I could not leave my house except to go to doctor's appointments. I could not walk ev en with a cane. I continued to go see DR Goldsmith and his PA Carl Durias, who basically minimized my pain and blew me off. He NEVER seemed curious about what might be going on. They kept offering me more and more medications which really didn't help with the pain and were very sedating. He said I had "complex pain syndrome", what the hell is that? He told me to go to a pain physician in town who is using a new nerve conductor called "the Scrambler" to the tune of $3500 (not paid for my insurance). I went 2X and when I got my CT scan results I stopped. My problems were way beyond "The Scrambler. In March 2025, I met with 2 Neurosurgeons and had a CT scan and another MRI at that time. From studying the CT scan and looking at the screws in my back were loose, there were 2 spinal fractures , severe stenosis with nerve compression .Both of the Neurosurgeons agreed upon the diagnoses and the procedure. I got operated again on 4/4/2025, with Dr Louis Chang, less than 6 months after my first surgery. Dr Chang had to perform a bigger surgery to revise MISTAKES Dr Goldsmith had made, and then some more. As soon as I woke up from my 2nd surgery, my 24/7 excruciating right leg pain was GONE!!!!. Goldsmith was negligent in his treatment of me. Why didn't HE order a CT scan when I was in so much pain for so long? Why. because he just didn't care. Maybe he didbn't want to see how he screwed up???? THis was and is the worst medical experience I have ever had. I hope my writing this will discourage you from having him operate on you or a loved one. Four. months out from my 2 surgery I am walking 2 miles, and have my life back. If I had not sought out some other consultations I would be where I was, 24/7 pain, not being able to walk and stuck in my house.

His imaging diagnosis convinced me of the importance to move forward with hip replacement surgery. Summit Orthopedics works closely with Sibley Hospital so I was able to schedule a Monday morning surgery and overnight stay at the hospital. The Nurse Navigator Supervisor at Sibley provided information on Pre-Op procedures and an appointment with Sarah, Summit's Nurse Practitioner, involved a review of the surgical procedures and the list of medications with a review of frequency. Dr. Siram brought together a great surgical team comprised of the Sibley Hospital Orthopedic doctors and nursing staff and an anaesthesiologist. The first nurse assigned to my post-Op care placed top priority on Pain Control and coordinated a meeting with In-House PT/OT Team to review and practice the Post-Operative exercises. I completed 2 weeks of In-Home physical therapy with Potomac Home Health Care, affiliated with Johns Hopkins and Sibley. The PT specialist was exceptional: checked vitals; reviewed my medications; provided a home exercise plan that helped me to begin walking with and without a cane, before starting In Office Post-Op PT. Instead, he inserted the needle and then took an X-ray afterward to verify the placement (ex post facto). Unfortunately, something went wrong, which worsened her condition and increased her pain. I tried to contact him for the next week to seek guidance. After 10 days, he finally answered my call, but he was very irritated and started yelling at me. When I asked him to calm down and lower his voice, he warned me that he wouldn't say anything more and then hung up the call. I don't know if he was having a bad day, but that's no excuse to treat patients --or anyone-- like that.

Nov 2021 - Bike accident resulting in "skier's thumb" aka torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). I…read moresaw a MedStar orthopedist in Jan/Feb who X-rayed it said it was torn but would heal. It didn't get better, so I saw Dr. Pan (OrthoVirginia) in April 2022. She ordered an MRI, said my ligament was string-thin, and strongly recommended surgery asap. This would've been expensive and inconvenient, so I visited WOSM in June 2022 for a 3rd opinion. Dr. Barth explained that the MRI showed my ligament is fine (acknowledging that the joint was still a little swollen and achy), and for some reason UCL injuries can take a year to fully recover. He said we could revisit surgery that fall if it's still problematic. I almost teared up with relief that I could avoid surgery (and that he was not a profit-seeking surgeon). Patience paid off, as I now have full strength, range of motion, and only occasional sensitivity at the extremes. I suspect lingering issues would have been worse if I had surgery.

I personally think this is stupid, but if this is their policy why was I even given an appointment? Please find another location, I've had a good experience with their Germantown office.
