I've been going to Family Medicine here for several years now and have consistently great…read moreexperiences. For the last 3 or 4 years, Dr. Holmstrom has been my PCP and I really liked her. I guess most folks do too because the only downside is that there's usually about a 3 month wait to see her! But I've been lucky that so far I haven't had any emergency issues to need to get in all that quickly so a 3-month wait hasn't been terrible. A few times I've needed prescriptions filled last minute and the staff has always been friendly and extended my refill until I was able to get into see the Dr. Most recently I was in yesterday for my yearly physical. Admittedly, despite being completely enamored with all things having to do with the medical profession, I have a bit of doctor's office phobia when it comes to my own appointments and I get really nervous whenever I visit (nothing personal, docs! I'm just a worrywart!) but the staff here puts me at ease. Everyone is great from the check in front desk staff to the nurses (there is one in particular that I've seen several times and she's the best! I'm terrible with names so I can't recall to give shout her out, sadly!) to the medical student who did my preliminary exam. Dr. Holmstrom is also so sweet and supportive and really friendly. Admittedly I've had a pretty grief-stricken year so anxiety/depression has been a bit of a struggle for me the last few months. She really took the time to talk through some of my issues and make sure that I was taking care of myself through all of it. They really do care here! UofM also has the neat health portal online where you can make appointments, view test results, request refills, etc. Everything you may need at your fingertips 24 hours a day. Just make sure you have your medical record number handy as you'll need it, if you're like me and forget your login & password all.the.time! ALSO--this office also houses the Japanese Family Health Program. This doesn't pertain to me but I think it's great they offer the services to Japanese speaking members of the population (several other clinics in the area service other languages).

My partner and I were looking for something very specific when finding a pediatrician for our son…read more My partner actually made a bulleted list of qualifications that the doctor had to have to even be considered. He he printed out that list and brought it with us to the offices -- I thought it would be embarrassed by it, but now I know it showed we meant business! We wanted to find someone who would consult with us and respect our decisions on vaccinations and antibiotics. We wanted to veer on the homeopathic side of care whenever possible. We wanted someone who respected the fact that our son was born at home with a midwife. It was hard to find all of this in a pediatrician, but in a family doctor, Dr. Scheerer was the It man. Dr. Scheerer is accomodating, I don't feel like a sardine in a tin can in his waiting room, he sits with you and really listens to your concerns. He knows his holistics but is also affiliated with St. Joe's, so you get the best of both worlds. He supports breastfeeding. He looks like he was in a rock band once, but has pictures of his family on a slideshow screensaver. Also, since he's a family doctor, he can take care of the whole fam. He sees babies every day, so we felt comfortable to have our son under his care. His staff remembers us and it really feels a lot more inviting than any other doctor I've been to. If you really like flourescent lights, a hospital setting, and a sterile-feeling environment, then he probably isn't for you. His office is in this awesome gigantic purple house near Planned Parenthood.

Dr. Scheerer has been my primary care doc for quite a long time now. Even though we're living…read moreoutside of the country now we still come back for annual check ups. He is thoughtful, thorough and engaging. His standard of care is among the best I have ever experienced in any of a variety of medical settings. In an era when your counted as lucky to get more than 10 minutes with your physician, Dr. Scheerer takes the time needed to examine, discuss options and then take a few minutes to talk about what books we've been reading.

I was going to review UHS and give a special shout out to Bonnie Bayne, but the bad reviews brought…read moreback terrible memories from when I was a student and some of their doctors were total jerks to me. Bonnie Bayne isn't a jerk. She rocks! I've been seeing her for gynecological exams over the past four years. She's fast, friendly, answers all of my questions, and has a delightful bedside manner, all of which are very important when you're laying in that most awkward and uncomfortable position. She also explains each procedure as she's doing it which I greatly appreciate. The exam is unpleasant enough. No need for unpleasant surprises She gave me a stern warning today about smoking even occasional cigarettes while I am on birth control. The really cool part of it was that she didn't just give me the "smoking is hazardous to your health" talk. Instead, her message was "quit smoking or just use condoms instead." I *loved* that. Dr. Bayne is the rare physician who respects your intelligence. The fact that she's really nice is just icing on the cake.

I was once randomly assigned to Dr. Bayne at UHS back when I was a student and have been seeing her…read moreas my primary care physician ever since. I now have excellent health insurance that is accepted all over town but I'll never switch as long as I can avoid it. Dr. Bayne is a completely excellent doctor in every way. She is a very good listener and communicator, and she takes the time to understand what I'm saying and to make sure I understand her advice and the medical options she presents. I usually have quite a few questions, and she is enthusiastic about answering them, as well as very knowledgeable. I also appreciate how Dr. Bayne will usually present multiple options for treating a condition or problem, and will give an honest recommendation about which approach she thinks is best. I almost always agree with her opinions on treatment options, but I am confident she would be respectful and easy to work with if I ever wanted to pursue a different approach. If you're a student in need of a good doctor, ask for Dr. Bayne. If you're not a student and you need to find a good local doctor, I recommend the same!
