I love that you can still find a small practice in Ann Arbor, where most, if not all of the doctors…read moreoffice is an entity if U of M or IHA. What I loved most about my PCP back in Cali was that I knew who my doctor was and could ensure that I would be seeing only the person, unless I requested someone else. This practice has three primary doctors and a nurse (I believe she isn't there daily), but they have a really nice woman(not sure exactly what her title is) but she preps all the patients before the doctors see 'em. My PCP is probably the youngest and the newest in that practice and does a great job taking the time to talk about any concerns or issues I had and didn't take über long to get to me either. It was very easy getting an appointment and the front women are helpful. If you're looking for just one doctor you can see and build a rapport with them, I would recommend coming here. Oh another plus is that they haven't moved to using an electronic system, so it is more a one on one visit, as opposed to the nurse or doctor talking to you but looking at a tablet most of the visit.

This is building 10 of 10 (U of M medical buildings line the entire ring around Briarwood mall -…read moreluckily they are all clearly labeled). Overall the atmosphere of the whole clinic/center is relaxed and laid back. There's a television in the waiting room and everything feels clean and up to date. I did not receive any physician care here but I did take advantage of the walk-in lab to get blood drawn. And when I say "drawn blood" I mean TWELVE vials (my new doc is apparently extremely thorough). The woman working at the lab was awesome. She was a little snarky but in a completely accessible warm, joking way. She was meticulous with checking and double-checking all the labs that were ordered. I warned her about my veins being crap (at most places, they stab into my arm and then "dig around" continually moving the needle under my skin and stabbing every which way until they finally get a vein - I don't mind needles or pain but it's sickening). This lady, on the other hand, felt both my veins and was careful to choose a small needle. She stuck me once, precisely, right into my vein, and got a good draw. THANK YOU, LORD. Next time I need vampirical services, I won't hesitate to return.

My partner and I were looking for something very specific when finding a pediatrician for our son…read more My partner actually made a bulleted list of qualifications that the doctor had to have to even be considered. He he printed out that list and brought it with us to the offices -- I thought it would be embarrassed by it, but now I know it showed we meant business! We wanted to find someone who would consult with us and respect our decisions on vaccinations and antibiotics. We wanted to veer on the homeopathic side of care whenever possible. We wanted someone who respected the fact that our son was born at home with a midwife. It was hard to find all of this in a pediatrician, but in a family doctor, Dr. Scheerer was the It man. Dr. Scheerer is accomodating, I don't feel like a sardine in a tin can in his waiting room, he sits with you and really listens to your concerns. He knows his holistics but is also affiliated with St. Joe's, so you get the best of both worlds. He supports breastfeeding. He looks like he was in a rock band once, but has pictures of his family on a slideshow screensaver. Also, since he's a family doctor, he can take care of the whole fam. He sees babies every day, so we felt comfortable to have our son under his care. His staff remembers us and it really feels a lot more inviting than any other doctor I've been to. If you really like flourescent lights, a hospital setting, and a sterile-feeling environment, then he probably isn't for you. His office is in this awesome gigantic purple house near Planned Parenthood.

He is thoughtful, thorough and engaging. His standard of care is among the best I have ever experienced in any of a variety of medical settings. I've been going to Family Medicine here for several years now and have consistently great…read moreexperiences. For the last 3 or 4 years, Dr. Holmstrom has been my PCP and I really liked her. I guess most folks do too because the only downside is that there's usually about a 3 month wait to see her! But I've been lucky that so far I haven't had any emergency issues to need to get in all that quickly so a 3-month wait hasn't been terrible. A few times I've needed prescriptions filled last minute and the staff has always been friendly and extended my refill until I was able to get into see the Dr. Most recently I was in yesterday for my yearly physical. Admittedly, despite being completely enamored with all things having to do with the medical profession, I have a bit of doctor's office phobia when it comes to my own appointments and I get really nervous whenever I visit (nothing personal, docs! I'm just a worrywart!) but the staff here puts me at ease. Everyone is great from the check in front desk staff to the nurses (there is one in particular that I've seen several times and she's the best! I'm terrible with names so I can't recall to give shout her out, sadly!) to the medical student who did my preliminary exam. Dr. Holmstrom is also so sweet and supportive and really friendly. Admittedly I've had a pretty grief-stricken year so anxiety/depression has been a bit of a struggle for me the last few months. She really took the time to talk through some of my issues and make sure that I was taking care of myself through all of it. They really do care here! UofM also has the neat health portal online where you can make appointments, view test results, request refills, etc. Everything you may need at your fingertips 24 hours a day. Just make sure you have your medical record number handy as you'll need it, if you're like me and forget your login & password all.the.time! ALSO--this office also houses the Japanese Family Health Program. This doesn't pertain to me but I think it's great they offer the services to Japanese speaking members of the population (several other clinics in the area service other languages).

That being said, I have a very hard time finding doctors who understand and know how to treat and care for sinus and allergy problems. I was experiencing extreme sinus inflammation on one side of my face, causing my sinus cavities to be sore, dry and extremely painful. The pain was so terrible no over the counter medicine could help solve my issue- this is when I called IHA. I was able to get an appointment within 48 hours, and was called back to be examined in less than 5 minutes of signing in. The entire visit took about 35 minutes- IMPECCABLE during this time of year! Dr. Joel was extremely friendly helpful when it came to treating my sinus inflammation. She game me several options for treatment, including steroids, , antihistamines and antibiotics as a last resort. Usually when you have a sinus infection doctors send you out with antibiotics and call it a day but I was so happy to find a doctor knowledgeable enough to know the affects of antibiotics on the body. Very impressed and my sinus problems are GONE!

Those visits haven't always been the greatest because I always have issues getting refills for my medications in a timely manner, even just simple BC. However I continued to frequent the office. Huge mistake! I should have stopped a long time ago but everything happens for a reason. Recently, I had terrible pain in my feet and made myself an appointment with a podiatrist who properly treated me. They requested that I get a global referral from my primary care provider. I called my primary care physician and requested one but they adamantly refused to give me one because I hadn't been seen for foot pain in her office. I find that completely ridiculous. I am very disappointed. I will not be returning. There are better providers out there
