It's so tranquil, zen, and makes you feel awestruck! I feel as if I'm being transported to a different world. One of peace, love, & tranquility. The pieces and wood artifacts are very unique! So many things as an option. Varies in size and pricing. They pride on the quality! As it can be an heirloom piece in your home, for a long time, and/or passed down for continual use. The staffers are always so helpful and they seem to like working there. I joke with them when I play around with the sound bowls. That they got to endure customers like me who might not know what the heck they are doing. Maybe someday I'll met the owner but believe he resides in Bali where many of their artisan pieces come. Each visit I buy a new bracelet or jewelry piece as they are made, donated, and then sold here. The proceeds go towards a program for kids in India. Handcrafted so each piece is unique. Reasonably priced too. A little goes a long way elsewhere in the world. So this makes me happy. I wish a little could go a little bit further stateside. But here we are. So many imports from different regions like Thailand, Bali, and etc. Just all around great vibes here! I cherish the blessing stone they gifted to me. I purchased a one-of-a kind dining room table made of petrified wood. It is handmade with a 'live-edge" from a tree that was pulled from the rubble in Indonesia. It took me years to find this natural and rustic-looking beauty. It is built to last a lifetime, weighing nearly 300 lbs., it is solid!! Justin finalized the sale and arranged for its delivery from Solana Beach to San Gabriel Valley. The showroom has 3 levels, filled with art pieces, natural slabs of tree pieces formed into small coffee tables to large 12-foot long tables. Choose the slab that fits your dimensions, they will help you choose the base style and color. Occasionally, I come back to browse through their inventory. This weekend, I bought some jewelry and have my eye on some teak wood cutting -boards, bowls, and utensils. The showroom is located in the Arts District and has free parking (very important as parking can be a challenge in this popular coastal city). Just asking for honesty. I bought a wood base (for a stone table I have) from David Alan Collections in Solana Beach today. I like the base although when I asked why the base was so pricey, I was told it cost upwards to $300 a day just in labor to make them in-house, and I was purchasing that level of in-house craftsmanship. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed the "made in Indonesia" sticker. Is it really necessary to lie to justify the price? read more

I really love strolling around in the David Alan Collection. Lots of beautiful wooden pieces. I love their kitchen section. A lot of well crafted kitchen wares such as teak root plates, spoons, tongs, and bowels. Even though a little overpriced. Since my hometown has similar wooden pieces that are much cheaper. I especially love the wooden buddha statue. The sunlight shined right on the Buddha while I was there. So peaceful! read more

Well, this is a fabulous shop with lots of surprises. First, let me say they just got in a whole container full of Japanese kimono fresh off the boat from Japan. I also just got a lot of Japanese dishes, perfect for sushi. What I did not know is that they have an upstairs and a downstairs below the ground floor level which has so many things to delight any visitor. I first started coming here because they have this amazing incense from India, which is the most exquisite incense I have ever, ever encountered. I can't say enough bad things about this shop - beyond selling poorly constructed furniture, they are unethical and borderline fraudulent when it comes to handling returns when their items are faulty or our case cause extensive damage (their outdoor pieces all ran rust when it rained, permanently staining travertine tile.). Their lack of empathy and response or shouldering the blame in anyway is the reason for my strong language above and poor review here. What looks good on the outside may be rotten on the inside. We had been looking for a really strong table base for a rectangular slate table top for some time. If you have a similar project, speak to Rick Harper. Rick will guide you through the basement, showing all manner of table base options. Rick said some of the petrified wood slabs they sell are heavier than slate. Looking for a one-of-a-kind shopping experience? Look no further. This place is a literal treasure trove of items from all over the globe. Amazing slab wood furniture, wooden sculptures & accent pieces, pottery, jewelry, statues & figurines, salvaged architectural pieces, and more. The place is enormous with 3 levels to explore; and the inventory is constantly shifting and expanding, so no two visits are the same. On top of being a great place to browse, it's also a great place to shop. Everyone we've encountered has been extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. We purchased a slab wood coffee table here. We visited a few times since at first we weren't finding exactly what we needed. Since our house is older & rooms are smaller, we needed a smaller table. Each time we were in, the employees helped us if we needed it and offered to show us pieces we may have overlooked. Since the table (and our budget for it) was somewhat small, the price tag was a fraction of what some of the larger, more elaborate pieces sell for. However, we were treated as if we were purchasing the most expensive item there. Again, the customer service and friendliness were top-notch and they never once treated us as if we were wasting their time with a relatively low-ticket item. We've also purchased a few smaller decorative items and each time the employees offered some back-story for the pieces and then carefully wrapped them once the sale was complete. Every time we're in the Solana Beach area, we always stop in... and plan to bring friends to see it as well. read more

Genuine artifacts abound. I'm a bull-whip and fedora short of feeling like Indiana Jones in this maze of unique pieces. I felt like a child in that I wanted to touch EVERYTHING. This place is so cool. If you're in the area or are in search of original unique pieces of art, you must stop by. I honestly don't know how to explain it in a way that would do it justice. The first floor always has cool wood art, jewelry pieces and so much more. The second story is more of a museum that houses really cool pieces. I don't even know if they're for sale in this area, but they're really neat. The very bottom floor which you might miss if you walk too fast, you get to by going down the staircase at the north end of the entrance. This is where they carve the wood and there are some seriously old and very cool artifacts. They have recently cleaned it up a bit, before it was very crowded with crazy pieces if you can imagine. Now it's much easier to see everything. This place is just amazing, and they let our dogs walk through with us. I love solans beach, and the vibe here is exactly that. Laid back, housing some very expensive, and some average priced, really, really cool art pieces. Do go if you're in the area. I always leave feeling enlightened. read more

Forget the museum! This is my favorite "gallery" with all of David Alan's worldly collection. This warehouse has 3 levels of antique goodies from wherever this lucky man has travelled. There are so outstanding pieces like original samurai uniforms, petrified wood decoration balls to stools to tables (which I have been eyeing), precious rocks and jewelry, fossilized decor, etc etc. Don't forget to check out the upstairs level and the basement. I love getting lost in here! The employees are very nice and informative.
